You need codes to access some scenarios (usually u get to play some or alot of the content to test before a code is required) em, these are available online at different places (or through internet archive). A remake project was started a while back but unsure how it's going. This game has influenced alot of other games and even games such as Guild Wars (1) where the "elite" areas even follow the same colour scheme.
You roll characters and there is guides on what suites what online aswell as a VERY rare character editor for PC version - that does exist (i do have it, found it when i had to change a character from vampire & evil to elf & evil for a scenario). Note that finishing scenarios doesn't give u a cutscene or similar - often just a text that proclaims that you've acoomplished the mission you set out to accomplish - or not even that. Walkthroughs of the scenarios are also available online.
This is quite a big game as it has several difficulty levels and also monster settings so you can advance your initial characters quite far.
In banks (not location based) and stores (location based) you can often "store" items but be sure to take them out before you leave as transference does not work properly. There is also a scenario or two that has a special area to store items but that often bugs out.

And one last note - if you really like city of bywater there is plenty of more content that you will like, but remember to carry with u the "useless" swords you aquire in a south western cave, you need em in the swords lands far far later.
Have fun!
