Steam only has the 2019 remake.

such a shame to SAY ONLY that Resident Evil 2 is no longer abandonware. We have a game from the past..millennium, 26 yrs ago, that we payed again and again, to an era that its (very) low graphics seems as a joke to pay for it. never mind, we’ll download it from torrents or elsewhere.

This OG PC port of Resident Evil 2 is still definitely abandonware, there is no way to buy this version of the game legally aside from an ever dwindling pool of second hand copies. Admin needs to restore the download and get rid of the Steam link that’s to a totally different game…

So I had the same issue of not being able to load my save game data. Easy fix for me at least after some digging. Go to properties on either ClarieP or LeonP or even Residentevil.exe and click compatibility and select compatibility mode Windows Xp service pack 2 and click apply and ok. Worked just fine and read all my save data. Also, the links to the missing codec file to play the cutscenes works. Check out their links and it’s as simple as a download.

If anyone else is having problme with the black screen during cutscenes, playing the audio of said CGI scenes but not the video, download and install Codinstl.

I randomly found a Steam community thread about STAR WARS Galactic Battlegrounds Saga titled ‘”Video not available. Cannot find ‘vids:IV50′ decompressor” FIX’ where the person said to download and install Codinstl.

I did it and it worked on RE2 98. Hope people in the future can find this thread as well.
