Still having trouble with the black bars…

I’ve tried the fixes with changing the compatibilities from Windows 95 all the way up to Windows 8. Reducing the color mode to 16-bit as well. Tried all combinations of modes (in “Best” graphics because of reason below).

Any time I tried to change the graphics in game from “Best” to “Better” or even to “Good” the game doesn’t want to start up anymore. It will either not do anything, or flash a few things and never open up the game.

I’ve even tried downloading from multiple sources and doing all the same things above. Please help. I’d love to rerun my beloved childhood game, but if nothing else works I’ll just have to settle with watching a playthrough of it. 🙁

In reply to Jax. you have to limit the frame rate, the lower it is the less likely the wall will appear (or that's how I got it to work using dxwind)

In reply to Elisabeth. if you get a cd/dvd emulator program like WinCDEmu or Power ISO, you can extract the files from the .iso file and install from there

In reply to August. So I did all of these things and it actually worked, I pulled up the games using DXWnd and it doesn't crash and I can hear it however I now can't see it. :( It showed a black screen with the DXWnd logo in the middle. Any advice?

I managed to get the game to work using DXWnd and setting the graphics to better as other comments have suggested, but I’ve come across a really weird problem: Spirit can’t pass beyond a certain area. I can get him out of that first canyon area, but when I exit to the homeland part of the map, I can’t head over to that part with the salesman and his covered wagon. It’s like there’s an invisible wall blocking me from going further. When I proceed to the top of the canyon and knock the rock down to free Gray, I can spawn to the blocked off area next to the river as expected, but then I can’t go past that invisible line again (but from the other direction this time) to the rest of the homeland.

Could there be some kind of map issue? I’ve tried deleting my game and restarting, then uninstalling the whole thing too, but nothing seems to help. Has anyone else encountered this or am I just cursed?

I was able to get the game open, but when I did, the game curser was stuck in the center of the screen. My actual curser was invisible. I could tell where I was if I went over a button because it would highlight it, but it wasn’t connecting the game curser. Any suggestions?
