Minimum Specification ******************************************************************* * Below is the minimum specification needed for ADIBOO to run on your computer. If your computer's specification is higher, ADIBOO will run even better: smoother animations and sounds, faster access to the different parts of the game, and shorter loading times will be possible. - Computer: Minimum: Pentium 133 MHz, 32 MB RAM Recommended: Pentium 233 MHz, 32 MB RAM - Operating system: Windows 95 or higher - Quad-speed CD-ROM drive - Graphics card: For most Learning Land activities: 2 MB 640 x 480 (running 16-bit, High Color) For the 3D driving game (Land of Science CD only): 4 MB graphics card minimum. 3D Graphics Accelerator Card is recommended for optimum performance. - Windows-compatible sound card - Disk space required: For Adiboo's Play Land (Disc 1): 25 MB For The Learning Land CDs (Disc 2): 10 - 50mb per CD. Note: ADIBOO requires the installation of DIRECTX. Direct X will automatically be installed during the setup of ADIBOO. ******************************************************************* 2. Troubleshooting ******************************************************************* * You have just installed ADIBOO but cannot launch it. Please check the following: - Start by checking that the autoplay of your CD-ROM drive is not disabled - De-activate your screen saver. - Also, shut down all applications running in the background, such as installation monitoring programs, antivirus programs, phone and fax software, etc. * You see a "shadow" box around characters and animations as they move. - Try turning down Graphic Accelerations by following these steps: 1) Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties". 2) Click on the Performance tab. 3) Click the Graphics button. 4) Move the slider to the left. ******************************************************************* 3. Specifications for Real-time 3D ******************************************************************* NOTE: The 3D feature is available only on the "Adiboo Land of Science" CD. * Choice of graphics card to use for the 3D real-time game When launching the 'Adiboo Land of Science' application for the first time, you will be asked what display driver you wish to use for the 3D real-time game. If your computer has more than one graphics card, choose the one with the best 3D acceleration. The 3D resolution and detail levels are set by default to the optimal values for the card you choose. You can modify these if you wish to by ticking Manual configuration. Note, however, that the new parameters you choose may not function properly (visual or sound problems may occur). Note: This configuration window will usually come up only once, unless a problem occurred (for example, the 3D window could not initialize properly), in which case the configuration utility will be relaunched automatically the next time you start the application. * Changing parameters selected earlier If you wish to modify the 3D real-time settings (for example, you have just bought a 3DFX card and want it to become the display driver for the 3D Adibou game), you can do this by clicking on Start, Programs, Knowledge Adventure, Launch 3D Configuration. You will then need to choose the product you wish to configure. * Troubleshooting problems with 3D real-time If you click on the car and see this message: the software cannot initialize the 3D dialogue box; or, when you see errors with graphics after one or several tries with the car: a) Check your screen resolution! With certain graphics cards, a resolution higher than 65,536 colors (i.e.: 16-bit, High Color) prevents the 3D game from running properly. In order to check, and possibly modify your resolution, (i.e., change to 16 bits if this is not already chosen), go to the Start menu, Settings, Control panel, Display, Settings. b) If this does not solve the problem, it might be due to your peripherals' drivers. (Note: a driver is a piece of software which enables a peripheral to function correctly.) For your drivers to function properly, you may need to get hold of the latest updates for these drivers. If your video graphics card was included with your system at the time of purchase, contact the manufacturer of your computer system about obtaining the latest version of a driver. If you have purchased a video card separately from your computer system, contact the component manufacturer to obtain the latest version of their driver. Refer to your hardware documentation for contact information. Updated drivers are also frequently available on the Internet. Here are a few sites where you will find the latest updates for your drivers: http://www.winfiles.com/drivers/ http://www.windrivers.com http://www.download.com Once you have downloaded the new driver, install it and relaunch the DIRECTX installer. * Problems specific to certain graphics cards Intel I740 chipset cards (eg: PC model MSNET): Repeatedly accessing and quitting the 3D driving can cause display problems with certain cards. This problem occurs when the card driver is not up-to-date. You will need to acquire a new version from the manufacturer or directly on the Intel site (www.intel.com). Matrox M3D cards: Connecting the 3D accelerator to this card is not recommended for reasons of incompatibility which can lead to problems during the 3D real-time game. * If you are in the driving part of ADIBOO and the display is not centered on your screen: Try to adjust the settings on your screen to correct the display. If that does not work, this means that your card or screen cannot support the resolution that you have chosen (e.g. some older screens are unable to support 512 x 384 resolution). To solve this problem, go into the Start menu, Programs, Knowledge Adventure and launch 3D configuration. Choose the product you wish to configure and select another resolution. ****************************************************************** 6.
