INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS a) INSTALLATION under Windows 95 Under Windows95 the setup is activated automatically if the CD-ROM drive supports "Auto insert notification". - You can check this by clicking "Start/Settings/Control Panel". - Then double click on "System". - There you choose the "Device Manager" panel. - Click on the "+" for "CD-ROM". - Then double click on the CD-ROM drive in which the Asterix CD-ROM has been placed and here choose the "Properties" panel. - The "Auto insert notification" field must contain a tick. You can also start the installation by clicking on - "/Start/Run". - In the "Open" field type "d:\setup.exe", if "d:" is the name of your CD-ROM drive. - Then click on "OK". b) INSTALLATION under Windows 3.1x - Click in the Programme Manager on "File/Run". - In the "Command Line" field type "d:\setup\exe", if "d:" is the name of your CD-ROM drive. - Then click on "OK". II. DATABASE INSTRUCTIONS "ASTERIX - SEARCHING FOR THE BLACK GOLD" uses BDE (Borland Database Engine). We recommend that you quit all other programmes which use BDE before you start "ASTERIX - SEARCHING FOR THE BLACK GOLD". If you are not sure whether, and which, programmes use BDE, simply quit all running programmes. "ASTERIX - SEARCHING FOR THE BLACK GOLD" makes several entries in the WIN.INI file which refer to the BDE path on the CD-ROM. If a version of BDE is already installed, the corresponding entries in the WIN.INI file will be changed at the start of the programme and restored again at the end of the programme. If an error occurs in your computer during use of "ASTERIX - SEARCHING FOR THE BLACK GOLD", it may be that these paths are not correctly reloaded. However, the changes are marked in the WIN.INI file and can easily be restored "manually". III. GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION INSTRUCTIONS "Searching For The Black Gold" runs completely in 256 colour mode. Nevertheless, we recommend its use in HighColor mode to prevent possible problems in the colour representation. If problems occur unexpectedly, usually updating your graphics driver will help. You can obtain current graphic drivers from your computer dealer, from graphics card manufacturers and via the Internet or similar information services (Compuserve, T-Online, AOL, MSN).
