This file contains helpful information, late-breaking news and a description of certain functions which were not implemented when the manual was created. INSTALLING THE GAME Windows(r) 1. Start Windows(r) 98/2000/Me/XP. 2. Insert the Backyard Football(tm) 2004 CD-ROM game disc into your CD-ROM drive. 3. If AutoPlay is enabled, a title screen should appear. If AutoPlay is not enabled, double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your Windows(r) desktop. Next, double-click on your CD-ROM icon to install the game. If the install screen still does not appear at this point, locate the AutoRun.exe file in the install folder of the game disc (usually D:\Backyard Football 2004) and double-click on it. Click on the INSTALL button when it appears. 4. Follow the remainder of the on-screen instructions to finish installing the Backyard Football 2004 CD-ROM game. Choose Compact (only files that must reside on the hard drive will be installed); Typical (all game data will be copied to the hard drive, which may result in improved game performance); or Compact (choose your install options - installing Dialogue and Music files is recommended). 5. Once installation is complete, make sure the "Here comes Backyard Football 2004" box is checked, and click on Finish to start the game. 6. Any time you want to play the game, click on the Start button on the Win98/2000/Me/XP taskbar and choose Programs/Atari/Backyard Football 2004 to start the game. Or double-click on your "My Computer" icon, then double-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive, and then double-click on the AutoRun.exe file. Once the AutoRun menu appears, click on PLAY. Installing DirectX(r) (Windows(r) Users Only) The Backyard Football 2004 CD-ROM game requires DirectX(r) 8.0 or higher in order to run. If you do not have DirectX(r) 8.0 or higher installed on your computer, you will be prompted to install DirectX(r) 8.0. Note: Some systems may require that you install DirectX(r) 8.0 manually from the game disc by launching the dxsetup.exe file inside the Game\DirectX folder. UNINSTALLING THE GAME Windows(r) From the Start button on your Windows(r) taskbar, select Settings, then Control Panel, then double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the drop-down menu, highlight Backyard Football 2004, then click on Change/Remove. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish uninstalling the Backyard Football 2004 CD-ROM game. Note: The Backyard Football™ 2004 CD-ROM should be in your computer’s CD-ROM drive at all times while Backyard Football™ 2004 is running. The absence of the Backyard Football™ 2004 CD-ROM in the computer’s CD-ROM drive while the game is running may cause the Backyard Football™ 2004 to not run properly or to crash. INSTRUCTION MANUAL Included on this product's game disc is an electronic version of the game's Instruction Manual in .pdf format, Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 (which enables you to view the manual in .pdf format), and an Install Guide file explaining how to access and use these features. Please refer to the Install Guide file by clicking on the Start button on your Windows® taskbar and then selecting Programs > Atari > Backyard Football 2004 > Install Guide. INSTALLING ADOBE(r) ACROBAT(r) READER(tm) 5.1 After the game installer finishes copying files to your hard drive, you may wish to install Adobe(r) Acrobat(r) Reader(tm) 5.1. This program is needed to read the electronic game manual. ACROBAT READER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 requires the following: Windows(r) Pentium(r)-class processor Microsoft(r) Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or 6 (Service Pack 6 recommended), Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition 64 MB of RAM 30 MB of available hard disk space (an additional 60 MB is needed temporarily during installation) Additional 70 MB of hard-disk space for Asian fonts (optional) Web browser support. The Web browsers within which Adobe PDF files may be viewed are: Internet Explorer 5.0 to 6.0 Netscape Navigator 4.5 to 4.77, 6.1 America Online 6.0 INSTALLING ACROBAT READER 1. Insert the Backyard Football 2004 disc into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Close the program window if the AutoPlay window appears. 3. Double-click on the icon labeled My Computer on your desktop. Then right-click the icon for your CD-ROM drive (usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu. Double-click on the Manual folder. Then double-click on the AcroReader51_ENU.exe file to install Acrobat Reader. 4. Click the Finish button to exit the Acrobat Reader installer. Insert the Backyard Football 2004 disc into your CD-ROM drive (close the program window if the AutoPlay window appears). Next, double-click on the icon labeled My Computer on your desktop. Then right-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive (usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu. Double-click on the Manual folder and then double-click on the BYFootball2004_Manual.pdf file to view the manual. To print the game manual select "Print" from the File menu. Choose the pages you wish to print and click on the OK button. For more instruction on using Acrobat Reader, you can read the help file that comes with the program. Select "Reader Guide" from the Help menu. OTHER ACROBAT TIPS * You can move through a document one page at a time by pressing the right arrow key to advance to the next page or the left arrow key to back up one page. * You can move through a document one screen at a time by pressing the Page Down key to scroll down one screen or the Page Up key to scroll up one screen. * To increase text visibility, click on the magnifying glass in the toolbar. VIDEO CARD CAPABILITY Backyard Football 2004 must be played on a video card capable of 640x480 screen resolution at a bit depth setting of 16 bits. The card and software drivers must be DirectX 8.0 (or higher) compatible. If you experience problems or difficulty with graphics, contact your card manufacturer for the latest documentation and drivers. DISPLAY SETTINGS The game will launch and lock your resolution to 640x480 with a bit depth of 16 bits. DISK CAPACITY AND SWAPFILE SPACE Backyard Football 2004 requires a hard drive space of 450MB A swap file (virtual memory) is temporary storage space on your hard drive which programs use for temporary storage of data. Backyard Football 2004 will use this space when it is running, then it will free this space when the game is terminated. To view swap file information, from the desktop, click the Start button / select Settings / select Control Panel / select System / select Performance tab / select Virtual Memory Button. For best results, you should let Windows Manage the Virtual memory for you. CONTROLLER SET UP You have to make sure your controllers are connected and properly configured before you start Backyard Football 2004. Please goto the your Start Bar and find the appropriate application. Below we list the path you need to follow to access the needed application.
