Start Windows(r) 98/2000/Me/XP. 2. Insert the Backyard Hockey(TM) 2005 CD-ROM game disc into your CD-ROM drive. 3. If AutoPlay is enabled, a title screen should appear. If AutoPlay is not enabled, double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your Windows(r) desktop. Next, double-click on your CD-ROM icon to install the game. If the install screen still does not appear at this point, locate the AutoRun.exe file in the install folder of the game disc (usually D:\Backyard Hockey 2005) and double-click on it. Click on the INSTALL button when it appears. 4. Follow the remainder of the on-screen instructions to finish installing the Backyard Hockey 2005 CD-ROM game. 5. Once installation is complete, make sure the "Here Comes Backyard Hockey 2005" box is checked, and click on Finish to start the game. 6. Any time you want to play the game, click on the Start button on the Win98/2000/Me/XP taskbar and choose Programs/Atari/Backyard Hockey 2005 to start the game. Alternately, you can double-click on your "My Computer" icon, double-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive, then double-click on the AutoRun.exe file. Once the AutoRun menu appears, click on PLAY. NOTE: For games with video card problems, try running the game using software rendering. Click on a special executable located in the Start Menu at: Programs > Atari > Backyard Hockey 2005 > Run_Software_Rendered_Mode. Installing DirectX(r) (Windows(r) Users Only) Backyard Hockey 2005 CD-ROM game requires DirectX(r) 9.0b or higher in order to run. If you do not have DirectX(r) 9.0b or higher installed on your computer, you will be prompted to install DirectX(r) 9.0b. Note: Some systems may require that you install DirectX(r) 9.0 manually from the game disc by launching the dxsetup.exe file inside the DirectX folder. Note: The Backyard Hockey 2005 CD-ROM should be in your computer’s CD-ROM drive at all times while Backyard Hockey 2005 is running. The absence of the Backyard Hockey 2005 CD-ROM in the computer’s CD-ROM drive while the game is running may cause the Backyard Hockey 2005 to not run properly or to crash. NOTE: Real-time Virus Scanning can cause framerate drops. If you are experiencing framerate issues, disabling virus scan software can create better performance. Note: For Windows 2000/XP users, you must have Administrator rights to install and save files in the game. After the game is installed, the Administrator can give saving rights through File Sharing within the Context Menu. Known Issue: Windows 98 First Editions Machines: SYMPTOMS: When you start the application on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, you may receive the following error message: A required dll oleacc.dll was not found CAUSE: This issue only occurs on Windows 98 First Edition machines. This issue may occur if the Oleacc.dll file is missing or is the incorrect version. RESOLUTION: To resolve this issue use either of the following methods. Method 1: Use Windows Update Windows Update can be accessed online. To access Windows Update, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Microsoft Active Accessiblity 2.0 software should be available as upgrades to the system. Method 2: Install Microsoft Active Accessibility 2.0 To install Microsoft Active Accessibility 2.0, visit the following Microsoft Downloads Web site: UNINSTALLING THE GAME Windows(r) From the Start button on your Windows(r) taskbar, select Settings, then Control Panel, then double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the drop-down menu, highlight Backyard Hockey 2005, then click on Change/Remove. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish uninstalling the Backyard Hockey 2005 CD-ROM game. It is possible a few small files will remain after you've uninstalled the product. If you wish to clear these few remaining files, you will need to navigate to the Atari folder location and hand delete them. II. III. INSTRUCTION MANUAL Included on this product's game disc is an electronic version of the game's Instruction Manual in .pdf format, Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 (which enables you to view the manual in .pdf format), and an Install Guide file explaining how to access and use these features. Please refer to the Install Guide file by clicking on the Start button on your Windows(r) taskbar and then selecting Programs > Atari > Backyard Hockey 2005 > Install Guide. INSTALLING ADOBE(r) ACROBAT® READER™ 6.0 After the game installer finishes copying files to your hard drive, you may wish to install Adobe® Acrobat(r) Reader™ 6.0. This program is needed to read the electronic game manual. Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 requires the following: * Intel® Pentium® processor * Microsoft® Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 6, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition * 32 MB of RAM (64 MB recommended) * 60 MB of available hard-disk space * Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, 6.0, or 6.1 To install Acrobat Reader, double-click on the icon labeled My Computer. Then right-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive (which is usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu. If the AutoPlay menu is visible, you may simply explore the CD by clicking on the Explore CD button. Double-click on the Manual folder. Then double-click on the AdbeRdr60_enu.exe file to install Acrobat Reader. Click on the Finish button to exit the Acrobat Reader installer. Insert the Backyard Hockey 2005 disc into your CD-ROM drive (close the program window if the AutoPlay window appears). Next, double-click on the icon labeled My Computer on your desktop. Then right-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive (usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu. Double-click on the Manual folder and then double-click on the BYHKY05_Manual.pdf file to view the manual. To print the game manual select "Print" from the File menu. Choose the pages you wish to print and click on the OK button. For more instruction on using Acrobat Reader, you can read the help file that comes with the program. Select "Reader Guide" from the Help menu. OTHER ACROBAT TIPS * You can move through a document one page at a time by pressing the right arrow key to advance to the next page or the left arrow key to back up one page. * You can move through a document one screen at a time by pressing the Page Down key to scroll down one screen or the Page Up key to scroll up one screen. * To increase text visibility, click on the magnifying glass in the toolbar. CHANGES TO THE MANUAL The following changes were made to the game after the manual was printed and therefore were not reflected in the manual. 1. On page 5 under ADVANCED CONTROLS, changes were made to the controls that that allow you to make line changes or pull/replace your goalie. The correct controls are the following: Line Change - Full Line 1 on Numpad Line Change - Forward 2 on Numpad Line Change - Center 3 on Numpad Line Change - Defender 4 on Numpad Pull/Return Goalie Period (.) on Numpad Note: If the Advance controls are not working then you may have Num Lock on your keyboard set to off. Press the Num Lock key on your keyboard to correct this issue. 2. On page 6 under KEYBOARD LAYOUT 1, the following changes were made: Move Player Up Ice Up Arrow Move Player Down Ice Down Arrow Move Player Left Left Arrow Move Player Right Right Arrow With Puck - Shoot Enter on Numpad Without Puck – Check Enter on Numpad Face-off – Collect Enter on Numpad With Puck – Pass + on Numpad Without Puck – Switch Players + on Numpad Face-off – Pass + on Numpad Turbo 0 on Numpad Pull / Return Goalie Period (.) on Numpad 3. On page 6 under KEYBOARD LAYOUT 2, the following changes were made: Move Player Up Ice W Move Player Down Ice S Move Player Left A Move Player Right D With Puck - Shoot Spacebar Without Puck – Check Spacebar Face-off – Collect Spacebar With Puck – Pass Alt Without Puck – Switch Players Alt Face-off – Pass Alt Turbo Shift Line Change 1 - 4 Pull / Return Goalie \ 4. On page 9 under PAUSE MENU, INSTANT REPLAY was removed from the game and QUIT TO MAIN MENU appears as QUIT TO MENU. 5. On page 10 under SET RULES SCREEN, the Period Length for a difficulty setting of HARD was changed to 3 minutes. Also, PENALTIES (ON/OFF), refers to Roughing, Goalie Interference and Hooking. It does not include Icing, Offsides or Two-line Pass. 6. On page 17 under GOODIES, The following information was left out: To unlock the CHEATS, click on the left/right arrow button at the top of the screen. Type in the cheat code and then press ENTER. IV. VIDEO VIDEO CARD CAPABILITY Backyard Hockey 2005 must be played on a video card capable of 640x480 screen resolution at a bit depth setting of 16 bits. The card and software drivers must be DirectX 9.0 (or higher) compatible. If you experience problems or difficulty with graphics, contact your card manufacturer for the latest documentation and drivers. DISPLAY SETTINGS The game will launch and lock your resolution to 640x480 with a bit depth of 16 bits. For users with better video cards, you can adjust graphical settings like Anti-Aliasing or Gamma Correction in your Control Panel. E.G. Right Click Desktop\Properties\Settings\Advanced\(Video Card)\(Performance and Quality) If your expirencing poor frame rate then try adjusting the games display settings. From the Main menu, click on GLOBAL OPTIONS and then DISPLAY SETTINGS. Adjust the Video Mode down to Medium or Low. SOUND AND VIDEO DRIVERS If you are experiencing any difficulties running the game, be sure that your sound card drivers and video drivers are up to date. KNOWN ISSUES: *ATI RADEON(R) (7500, 8500 & 9800), S3 Savage 4 and Voodoo5 5500 There are known issues with the game and the ATI RADEON (7500, 8500 & 9800), S3 Savage 4 and Voodoo5 5500 with the July 2004 version of Windows(R) 98/ME drivers. If you are experiencing poor frame rate, game crashes or graphical corruption, and you have tried the latest video drivers available, you may wish to try the DirectX(R) 8.1 compatible version of Backyard Hockey(r) 2005, which has been tested with this video card. To run the DirectX 8.1 compatible version of Backyard Hockey 2005: 1. Double-click on My Computer. 2. Browse to C:\Program Files\Atari\Backyard Hockey 2005. 3. Double-click on Hockey2005DX8.exe to start the game. If you wish to make a shortcut to your desktop then right click on Hockey2005DX8.exe and choose SEND TO, Desktop (create shortcut). Note: while Hockey2005DX8.exe is programmed to use the DirectX 8.1 programming interfaces, it is compatible with the latest Microsoft DirectX 9.0. You do not need to uninstall DirectX 9.0 to run Hockey2005DX8.exe. Display Settings (Medium or High Screen Resolution): If your running the game in Medium or High screen resolution and the font is hard to read then drop your screen resolution down to Low to correct this issue. V. DISK CAPACITY AND SWAPFILE SPACE Backyard Hockey 2005 requires approximately 600MB of hard drive space. A swap file (virtual memory) is temporary storage space on your hard drive which programs use for temporary storage of data. Backyard Hockey 2005 will use this space when it is running, then it will free this space when the game is terminated. To view swap file information, from the desktop, click the Start button / select Settings / select Control Panel / select System / select Performance tab / select Virtual Memory Button. For best results, you should let Windows Manage the Virtual memory for you. VI. CONTROLLER SET UP You have to make sure your controllers are connected and properly configured before you start Backyard Hockey 2005. Please go to Start button on the taskbar and find the appropriate application. Below we list the path you need to follow to access the needed application. Please follow the on-screen prompts to make sure your connected device is working correctly. Windows 98/ME/XP Start\Settings\Control Panel\Game Controllers Windows 2000 Start\Settings\Control Panel\Gaming Options StickyKeys If using the keyboard as a controller - the windows StickyKeys may be activated - to disable this, go to the control panel, Activate the Accessibility Options icon - click the "Settings" button in the "StickyKeys" group - remove the check from "Use Shortcut" and press OK. Note: Gamepad button location and subsequent configuration may differ from the shown game configuration per product. Known Issues: *Thrustmaster(r) There are several known issues with the game and Thrustmaster(r) gamepads. Among the issues, the D-pad and analog stick controls are inverted causing the user controled player to move or spin in the opposite direction. Also, the Thrustmaster(r) may become unresponsive for short periods of time. If you are experiencing any of these issues and are using the latest drivers then we suggest using the mouse as a primary controler for the game. There is a known issue in Air Hockey when the Micro Kids have been unlocked. If you are experiencing a problem with the paddle overlapping the puck then deactivate the Micro Kids to resolve this issue. To do this, simply click on Extras and Goodies from the Main menu. Click on the top right or left arrow button and choose CHEATS. at the bottom under Cheat Code type in the code for Micro Kids and press the ENTER key. VII.
