Start Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98. 2. Remove the CD from its protective case and place it in the CD-ROM drive of your computer. Use a disc caddy if your CD-ROM requires one. Insert the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM to begin to play. 3. If the Autoplay feature is enabled, installation of the program will begin automatically; just follow the onscreen instructions. If your Autoplay feature is not enabled, please complete the following steps: · On your Windows(R) desktop, double-click the My Computer icon. · Double-click on the CD icon. · Double-click on the Setup icon and follow the onscreen instructions. · When the installation is complete, you may be asked to restart your computer. ERROR MESSAGE WHEN TRYING TO AUTOLAUNCH INSTALL 1. If you receive an error message when you first attempt to Autolaunch the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM a. Select Start and then run from the Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 taskbar. b. In the dialog box, type D:\ dcom98 ("D:" refers to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM drive is not D:, type the appropriate letter.) c. Click the OK button. d. Follow the installation instructions. Starting If the Autoplay feature is enabled, the game will begin automatically when you insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, go to the Start menu on your Windows(R) desktop, select Programs, then the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) folder (or whatever folder you installed to), and click the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) icon. Macintosh(R) Installation: 1. Remove the CD from its protective case and place it in the CD-ROM drive of your computer. Use a disc caddy if your CD-ROM requires one. Insert the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM to begin to play. 2. Insert the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD into the CD-ROM drive. 3. Double-click on the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) Installer icon and follow the on-screen instructions. 4. When the installation is complete, you may be asked to restart your computer. Starting Double-click on the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) icon in the program folder. For future game play, you can create a desktop "alias" by pressing Command Key + M and then dragging the program icon alias to the desktop. B) Uninstalling the Program Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: 1. Click the Start button on the Taskbar to bring up the Start menu. 2. Select Programs and then the Mattel Interactive/Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM folder. 3. Click the Uninstall Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) icon. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the uninstall process. 5. Please be sure to restart your computer after uninstall to ensure that all of the program files have been removed. Macintosh(R): 1. Locate the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) folder on your computer's hard drive. 2. Drag the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) folder into the Trash, and then choose Empty Trash from the Special menu. Select find file from the Apple menu bar and do a search for "Barbie" to delete any saved preference files. Drag any unwanted "Barbie" files into the trash and empty. 3. To reinstall Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM, follow the installation instructions above. Section 3: GENERAL TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING General Tips 1. Clicking on "B" at main allows player to re-choose doll. 2. Hitting spacebar once turns off music. Hitting spacebar twice turns music back on. 3. In "Add a Friend Mirror", clicking in top middle mirror between "Change Views", deletes any Friend selected. 4. For Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) to print on a Macintosh® with 32MB of RAM, turn on Virtual Memory in your computer's Memory Control Panel. To do this, select the Memory Control Panel and click the Virtual Memory button On and increase Virtual Memory to 70, which will require you to Re-boot your system. Background printing should also be disabled. This should enable printing. If you still have trouble printing, you may need to set your Virtual Memory to a higher setting. 5. Restart your computer after uninstall to ensure that all of the program files have been removed. Trouble Shooting This section discusses performance issues you might encounter as you play Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM. Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: ERROR MESSAGE WHEN TRYING TO AUTOLAUNCH INSTALL 1. If you receive an error message when you first attempt to Autolaunch the Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM a. Make sure that your display setting is at 800x600 resolution and 16-bit high color. To do this: · Go to the Start menu on your Windows(R) taskbar and select Settings. · Select Control Panel. · Click on the Display icon, then choose Settings. You can adjust your settings here. Note: You may need to restart your computer after applying your new settings. Make sure you close all open programs before restarting. 2. Contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. (Note: Updated video drivers may be available through the Internet.) 3. Make sure other applications are closed while the game is running. Macintosh(R): 1. Make sure that your display setting is at 800x600 resolution and thousands of colors. 2. Make sure other applications are closed while the game is running. 3. Make sure you turn off any screen savers before playing Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) CD-ROM. B) Performance Issues Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: If Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) runs slowly or freezes: 1. Close any unnecessary applications, including screen savers that may be running. We do not recommend running the game while other programs are open. 2. Check to make sure you have the minimum system requirements. Macintosh(R): If Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) runs slowly or freezes: 1. Close any unnecessary applications that may be running in the background, including screensavers. Macintosh(R) Memory: If you are running Barbie(R) Beauty Styler(TM) and are experiencing poor performance or program crashing, turn on Virtual Memory in your computer's Memory Control Panel, even though this may affect sound quality. C) Music, Sound Effects, and Dialog If you are having trouble hearing the game sounds, please check the following: 1. Make sure that your computer speakers are turned ON and the volume is adjusted properly. 2. Make sure that you do not have the SOUND muted. Double click on the small speaker icon in the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen to check. 3. For Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 users, if your sound system is configured with an incorrect or outdated sound driver, the sound may not play properly. Contact your sound card manufacturer to obtain the current sound drivers. (Note: You may be able to download this from the Internet.) D) Printing Problems Windows(R) 95, Windows(R) 98, or Macintosh(R) If you're having trouble printing pages from the game, please check the following: 1. Make sure you printer is plugged into your computer correctly, has paper in the tray, and is turned on. (Also make sure your computer is in the Ready mode.) 2. Make sure that you are able to print from Windows(R) 95, Windows(R) 98, or Macintosh(R) with other applications. 3.
