********************************************************************************************** TALONSOFT'S BATTLE OF BRITAIN README (Version 1.02; EXE Date 5/26/99) ********************************************************************************************** ********************************************************************************************** WARNING FOR BOB VERSION 1.02 ********************************************************************************************** Changes and updates to various BoB data files for Version 1.02 may not appear in saved games that you are currently playing, because a lot of information about the saved game is saved in the game file itself. To ensure that all new features/changes in 1.02 are working properly in your BoB game, you should start new games with version 1.02. You may continue and finish your saved games begun under Version 1.00 or 1.01, but understand that some changes/updates may not appear in those games. ********************************************************************************************** TROUBLESHOOTING FOR VERSION 1.02 ********************************************************************************************** NONE ********************************************************************************************** NEW FEATURES/ENHANCEMENTS FOR BOB VERSION 1.02 ********************************************************************************************** (1) Map Changes - Goodwood airfield has been removed from the map. - Westhampnett airfield has been moved. It is now located just northwest of Tangmere to coordinate 244,626. - Shoreham (a secondary airfield) has been added to the map. It is located to the west of Brighton at coordinate 262,638. - The Westland Avionics Factory has been moved to coordinate 215,594. - Hawker-Brooklands Factory has been moved to coordinate 262,608. - Driffield (a secondary airfield) has been moved to coordinate 194,525. - Boscombe Down airfield has been moved to coordinate 180,594. - Middle Wallop has been moved to coordinate 189,594. (2) Bombers Destroying RAF Aircraft on the Ground Small tweaks have been made to improve the ability of bombers to destroy RAF aircraft on the ground. (3) Bomer Defense Small tweaks have been made to improve German bomber ability to destroy RAF aircraft during combat. ********************************************************************************************** BUG FIXES FOR BOB VERSION 1.02 ********************************************************************************************** (1) Game Turn Problem - 1940 One-Week Campaign: The current game turn is now correctly represented on the score SUMMARY screen for 1940 One-Week campaigns. (2) Pilot Fatigue: Pilot Fatigue should now be working properly. Read the description of fatigue below: To be clear, using BoB Version 1.02, there are two Fatigue elements in BoB. The first is a pilot's fatigue "level". That's the amount of fatigue the pilot currently has. The second element is fatigue "points", which are accumulated during the Reaction Phase as indicated on page 29 of the manual. During the Reaction Phase, a pilot gains fatigue point as per page 29, and as soon as his current fatigue points exceed his current Fatigue Level + 10, his Fatigue Level goes up one point. For example, If a pilot has a Fatigue Level of 25, and during the Reaction Phase, he has accumulated 39 fatigue points, then his Fatigue Level goes up to 26. Now, once a pilot's Fatigue Level has been increased, the game reduces the pilot's accumulated fatigue points by the amount that was required to increase the Fatigue Level by one. So, using the example above, as soon as the pilot gained 39 fatigue points, his Fatigue Level was increased to 26, and his fatigue points are reduced to 4. So, if this pilot is still in combat and gaining fatigue after his increase, he'll have to accumulate 36 fatigue points for his Fatigue Level to go up once again to 27. Now, during the overnight phase, the game takes each pilot's Fatigue Level and divides it by 4. So, a pilot with a Fatigue Level of 26 at the end of a Reaction Phase, would have a Fatigue Level of 6 at the beginning of the next Reaction Phase. And the process would start all over again. The pilot's maximum Fatigue Level can never exceed 99. Now, as indicated in the manual (page 30), a pilot's Fatigue Level reduces his skill. If a pilot's Fatigue Level is 26, his skill is reduced by 26%. So, if you're wondering what the difference is between a pilot with a 19 Fatigue Level and one with a 26 Fatigue Level, just look at them in relation to one another. The pilot with a 26 Fatigue Level will be 7% less effective in combat. (3) A bug where your staff wasn't plotting recon missions against targets above the "Max Target Damage" level you set for each Luftflotte. Your staff should now plot recon missions against targets damaged above the max. (4) A bug where sometimes your staff would plot non-recon missions for Luftflotte 5, when you specificially ordered them to plot just recon missions. (5) Unit classification for Ju86P-2 units has been changed from "Gruppe" to "Schwarm". This has fixed a problem where Ju86P-2 units with one aircraft had 20+ pilots. The number of pilots available in these units should now be more consistent with the number of aircraft. (6) Crash bug associated with the "follow" command and plotting additional missions. (7) A bug where sometimes RAF aircraft were launching with no fuel. When an airfield has zero fuel, its "ready" aircraft can still fly the turn immediately after the airfield loses its fuel, because it's assumed that these aircraft have full tanks. However, all turns afterwards where an airfield has zero fuel, the aircraft will not be able to launch. *********************************************************************************************** SCORING CHANGES FOR VERSION 1.02 *********************************************************************************************** NONE *********************************************************************************************** RULES CLARIFICATIONS *********************************************************************************************** (1) British Production Redistribution and Disbursement As certain British industries begin taking damage, the game determines if those industry's production points should be shifted to a generic factory. The four industries whose production is transferred due to damage are Aircraft Factories, Avionics Factories, Engine Factories, and Ball Bearing Factories. When an Aircraft, Avionics, or Engine factory has taken damage GREATER THAN 49%, the game begins transferring its production to a generic factory. When a Ball Bearing factory has taken damage GREATER THAN 59%, the game begins transferring its production to a generic factory. As soon as the factory repairs itself below the critical damage transfer level (as indicated above), it stops transferring production points and begins working again normally. If one of these factories is damaged to the point where all of its production points are transferred to a generic factory, it becomes a generic factory itself, and then functions according to all rules for generic factories. (2) Pilot Fate Messages The number in parenthesis [e.g., (24)] which appears alongside a pilot name when that pilot's aircraft crashes, indicates how many days the pilot is out of action. This number appears only for pilots WIA, and only in instances when the crash occurs while the aircraft is landing. (3) German Fighter Units and multiple missions If you have already assigned a fighter unit for a mission, it will not show up later in the day as an available "lead" unit. However, it can show up as an escort unit that can be assigned to a second mission later in the day. (4) Engine Factory -- Rolls Royce Hillingdon You may have seen a discrepancy between the number of Engine Factories on the "Set Bomber Targets" tab (5 locations) and on the "List Targets" tab (6 locations). However, this is not an error. The Hillingdon Rolls Royce engine factory (located in Scotland) appears on the map and under "List Targets" at the start of a 1940 Campaign. But it is not considered a working factory until the month of September, when it comes on line and begins producing engines. (5) Location "Capacity" Numbers and German Fog of War For the British player, the capacity number for a target is always correct. For the German player, a location's capacity number flucuates according to the quality of his reconnaissance. And at the beginning of a new campaign, the game randomly sets a capacity number for each target for the German player. (6) Aircraft Replacements An RAF unit will only receive replacement aircraft when its total number of aircraft dips below 16. So, for example, if a Spitfire I unit has 5 available aircraft and 11 others divided between the various other states (i.e., refueling, in transit, etc.) this unit will not receive any additional aircraft until its total number is reduced below 16.
