AutoPlay Troubleshooting: AutoPlay on your system may not be turned on, enabled, or operational for three reasons: 1. Your CD-ROM is running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode. 2. Your computer's manufacturer has disabled AutoPlay. 3. AutoPlay has been disabled in your control panel. You first need to determine whether your CD-ROM is running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode. Windows may be running your CD-ROM in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode if Windows 98 or 95 cannot determine the correct type of CD-ROM you have or if you have DOS CD-ROM drivers loading when you boot your computer. This is a "safe" mode that will not work with games that require 32-bit access to your drive. To determine whether your system is running in this mode, follow these instructions: 1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop. 2. Click on Properties. 3. Click on the Performance tab. 4. Look for a message that says some or all drives are running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode. If item 4 above is true, you will need to contact your computer manufacturer for assistance. Emphasize that you need to enable 32-bit mode for your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM is not running in MS-DOS Compatibility Mode, follow these instructions to install Blue's Treasure Hunt without AutoPlay: 1. Insert Disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. 3. Double-click on the CD-ROM icon. 4. Double-click on Blue'sTreasureHunt-Disc1.exe. 5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Then drag and drop the new shortcut to your desktop. (To run the game again, double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and double-click the Blue'sTreasureHunt-Disc1.Exe icon. Blue and her Friends Using the Mouse: To guide Steve and Blue through the Treasure Hunt adventure, lead the way with your cursor. When your cursor is on an object that can be explored or manipulated, it becomes solid. Click on the object to make it move, to pick it up, or to learn more about it. To move from place to place in Blue's world, click the mouse when your cursor becomes a large, solid arrow. To move quickly through a scene without listening to all the dialog or watching all the action, press the Escape (Esc) key. Use this sparingly though; you won't want to miss any important information! Clickable Surprises: For surprise treats, click on characters and objects in and around Steve's house and neighborhood. Many objects animate differently each time they are clicked, so spend time exploring and learning about new characters and locations as you move through Blue's world. Helpful Game Hints * Explore all locations! Click everywhere - and often! Look for large solid arrows; they mean there is a new location to explore. * Click on Steve often. He'll remind you about the goal of the current pathway as well as how many scrolls and clues you still need to find. * Keep track of interesting tidbits of information, like who's looking for objects or where scrolls need to be delivered. * Make a map of Steve's house and neighborhood to help you remember where things are. Indicate (write or draw) what you find in each location, and where you can go from each screen. * Some clues are easy to find while others may require that you help a character before you can uncover the clue. For instance, in one of the pathways you'll need to help Magenta sort photos before a clue is revealed. * It is never necessary to switch disks in the middle of a pathway. * For more specific game hints, see the Parent's Section. The Goal of the Game The overall goal of Blue's Treasure Hunt is to help Blue and Steve enter the Land of Great Discovery! To get there, you must help Blue and Steve complete three unique treasure hunts in sequence. Each Treasure Hunt "pathway" features a complete Blue's Clues game to solve, a series of three treasure scrolls to find and follow, multi-level learning games to explore, a Blue skidoo, and lots of locations and clickable surprises. The scrolls in each pathway lead you to the treasure chest, while the answer to Blue's Clues allows you to open the treasure chest. The treasure inside each chest will partially unlock the door to the Land of Great Discovery. Once you have completed all three pathways in order (solving each Blue's Clues game AND completing each treasure scroll hunt), you can "unlock" the door to the Land of Great Discovery where even more treasures await you! Goals for Each Treasure Hunt Pathway: There are two tasks to complete within EACH of the three Treasure Hunt pathways. The tasks function independently of each other, but both must be completed in order to find and open the treasure chest at the end of each pathway. The two tasks in each pathway are: Follow the treasure scrolls that Treasure Bug has hidden. Each scroll contains a hint that will guide you toward the Treasure Chest. You are automatically given the first scroll at the beginning of each pathway. Follow the hint to locate the character that needs the scroll you have. When you share your scroll, that character presents another scroll containing a new hint to lead you one step closer to the Treasure Chest. The third scroll in each pathway leads you to Treasure Bug who wants to know the answer to Blue's Clues. Find three paw prints and solve Blue's Clues in order to discover the answer Treasure Bug needs to open the Treasure Chest. The answer to each pathway's Blue's Clues game is the favorite treasure of one of Blue's friends. Important Note: You must solve the Blue's Clues puzzle AND find all three scrolls before you can complete one pathway and move on to the next. Signing In Before you can accompany Blue and Steve on Blue's Treasure Hunt, you must sign in. Mailbox asks you for your name and asks you to share some of your favorite treasures.
