MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS -------------------------------------------------------- Pentium® 166 MHz processor or higher Microsoft® Windows® 95/98 operating system 100% Windows® 95/98-compatible computer system (including compatible 32-bit drivers for CD-ROM, video card, sound card and input devices) 32 MB RAM Quad Speed (4x) CD-ROM drive (600K/sec sustained transfer rate) SVGA video card with 1 MB RAM capable of 16-bit High color 100% Windows® 95/98-compatible 16-bit sound card and drivers 100% Windows® 95/98-compatible mouse and drivers 65 MB of uncompressed hard drive space plus 10 MB for the Windows® Swap file II. INSTALLING THE PROGRAM ---------------------------------------------- If the Windows® 95/98 Autoplay feature is enabled on your computer, the Chicken Run Fun Pack installation screen will automatically appear when you insert the Chicken Run Fun Pack CD into your CD-ROM drive. Simply click on Install and follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation. If the Autoplay feature is disabled, you can begin the installation by doing the following: a) Go to the Start Menu and select Run. b) Type D:\SETUP.EXE (assuming D is your CD-ROM drive letter) and press Enter. -or- a) Double-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows 95/98 desktop. b) Click on the View menu and select Refresh. c) Double-click on your CD-ROM drive icon. d) Double-click on SETUP.EXE. III. TROUBLESHOOTING ----------------------------------- Movie Clips Are Not Playing -------------------------------------- Make sure that you have Intel Indeo 5.0 or higher installed on you system. It is part of the install process but if you have chosen to skip it, you can always install it again later. To do this, search the Chicken Run CD for "iv5setup.exe". You can do this from your desktop by clicking Start->Find->Files or Folders and then entering "iv5setup.exe" into the box marked "Named" and then select the CD-ROM drive that the Chicken Run CD is located in. Double-click this file to begin the install process. Make sure that you are running in 16 Bit High Color. Chicken Run Fun Pack does not support running in 24 or 32 Bit True Color. Please set your color palette to 16 Bit High Color. To do this from your desktop, click-->Start-->Settings-->Control Panel. Open the Control Panel and then select Display. This should bring up a box titled Display Properties. Click the Settings tab at the top of the Display Properties box. In the pull down menu for Color Palette, select 16 Bit High Color. Click on the Apply button and then click on OK. In some cases you may have to restart your computer for the change to take affect. Game Doesn't Play Without the CD ---------------------------------------------- You must have the Chicken Run Fun Pack CD in the drive whenever you are running the Fun Pack. You do not need the CD in the drive to launch Rocky's Radio or Clock-a-doodle-doo. Video or Video Card Issues ------------------------------------ Chicken Run Fun Pack requires that your video card supports running in at least 640x480 screen resolution and 16-bit high color palette. To change these settings, click Start-->Settings-->Control Panel and then select Display. On the Settings tab, change your Desktop Area size to 640x480 and change your Color Palette to 16 Bit High Color. Click on the Apply button and then click on OK. In some cases you may have to restart your computer for the change to take affect. Also, it's also a good idea to make sure you have the latest drivers for all of your hardware, including your video card. These drivers can usually be found at the manufacturer's website but there are several websites on the Internet where you can download drivers for free. Chicken Run Extras -------------------------- There are additional utilities provided with Chicken Run Fun Pack that are required for certain parts of the Fun Pack to function properly. If you are unsure whether you have these utilities installed, it is recommended that you install these extra pieces of software to enable you to get the maximum amount of fun from your Pack. - Adobe Acrobat Reader (ar405eng.exe) This will enable you to view the manual.pdf file that is supplied on the Fun Pack CD. The manual is the same as the printed manual supplied with the Fun Pack. - Intel Indeo (iv5setup.exe) This is required for the viewing of the Fowl Play video clips. Problems with Installing Wallpapers ------------------------------------------------ Sometimes after installing new wallpaper from the Fun Pack, you might experience problems such as having the wallpaper only appear as a square in the top corner of your screen or other various problems. This can be fixed by right-clicking any open space on your desktop where there is no file or folder and select "Refresh" from the options. Saving Games ------------------- Chicken Run Fun Pack does not have a saved game feature by design. Restoring Windows Settings --------------------------------------- After you have changed any of your Desktop settings, such as: cursors, sounds or icons, with those included in the Fun Pack, you can change them back to the default Windows settings by launching the game and then returning to Chickenizer and selecting the setting you have changed. In Chickenizer, there is a button marked "Reset" which will restore all of your Windows settings. NOTE: If you have uninstalled the Chicken Run Fun Pack and changed any Windows settings to those in the Fun Pack, you MUST re-install the Fun Pack and follow the above steps to set them back to the Windows default settings. Auto Hide Shows Windows Taskbar ------------------------------------------------- If you have your Windows Taskbar set to Auto hide and install a screen saver, you may notice the Windows Taskbar is now visible when you move your cursor to the bottom of the screen in the Chicken Run Fun Pack. To fix this problem, please uncheck the box for Auto hide before launching the Fun Pack. To do this, right-click on any empty space on your Taskbar and select Properties. From the Taskbar Properties screen, uncheck the box marked "Auto hide" and then relaunch the game. Windows CD Player not functioning after uninstalling the game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To ensure that your Windows CD Player settings are restored, please uninstall from your Windows® 95/98 desktop by clicking Start, then Activision, Chicken Run and Uninstall. If you are having problems listening to audio CDs after uninstalling Chicken Run Fun Pack, there are 2 things you can do to manually restore Windows settings. First, reinstall Chicken Run Fun Pack and from your desktop, select Start, then Activision, Chicken Run and Set Default CD Player. From here click Windows CD Player and then OK. Also, you can manually change this setting through Windows by following these steps from your Windows desktop: 1. Double-click on My Computer 2. Click on View then click on Folder Options 3. In the Folder Options window - click on the File Types tab at the top. 4. Using the scroll arrows, scroll down to CD Audio*, highlight it. then click on the Edit button. *For certain versions of Windows, this may be referred to as "CD Audio Track" or "AudioCD". 5. In the "Edit File Types" window - in the Actions section, highlight "Play", then click on the "Edit" button. 6. In the "Editing action for type:" window - click on the "Browse" button 7. In the "Open with" window - use the drop down arrow next to "Look in" to select the hard drive where Windows is located. 8. Double-click on the Windows folder 9. Using the arrow buttons, scroll to the right until you find the file marked "cdplayer.exe" and click on it. 10. Now click on the "Open" button. 11. In the "Editing action for type:" window - click on the OK button to close it. 12. In the "Edit File Type" window - click on the OK button to close it. 13. In the "Folder Options" window - click on the OK button to close it. 14. Finally, close the My Computer window. IV.
