Please read the following for important last-minute information.

"Background Music" and "Sound Effects"
The buttons and menu options for "Background Music" and "Sound Effects" do not work if another application is also using the sound card. Some applications "lock" MIDI and WAV devices. You can solve this problem by closing all other applications. If that doesn't work, just restart Windows.

Can't find sound card
If you click "Sound Effects" and get the message "ClockWerx cannot detect a sound card (WAV device) to play sound effects," this probably means that you do not have a sound card or that your sound card is not capable of playing WAV files. To check if your sound card is installed and supports WAV files, double-click Sound in the Control Panel. If the files listed under "Events:" (such as Asterisk and Windows Exit) are dimmed out, then your sound card is not capable of playing WAV files. If you hear a sound when you click on the "Test" button, you will hear the sound effects in ClockWerx.

If you click "Background Music" and get the message "ClockWerx cannot detect a sound card (MIDI device) to play music," this probably means that you do not have a sound card or that your sound card is not capable of playing MIDI files. To check if your sound card is installed and supports MIDI files, double-click Media Player in the Accessories program group. Select "MIDI Sequencer" from the Device menu. Click on a file listed in the dialog box and press the OK button. Then click the Play button (right arrow) below to hear the MIDI file. If you hear MIDI music in Media Player, you should hear music in ClockWerx.

If you don't get sound or music, try reinstalling the Windows driver for your sound card. Please consult your sound card owner's manual for further information.

Music sounds wrong
The music can sound wrong if MIDI Mapper is not set up correctly. Open MIDI Mapper in the Control Panel. Then select either basic FM or extended FM, depending on your sound card. Most newer sound cards, such as the Sound Blaster 16 ASP, support extended FM. Older sound cards, such as the Ad Lib and 8-bit Sound Blaster, support basic FM. Do not select all FM as this option sounds the worst.

Graphics problems
If you experience any graphics problems in ClockWerx, we recommend that you set your video mode to 256 colors. Double-click Windows Setup and select "Change System Settings" from the Options menu. Select "Display" and choose a 256-color video driver specific for your video card.

CD utilities
If you are running CD utilities in Windows (for example, to listen to music CDs), this may slow down the performance of the game. Please disable all utilities before running the game. For example, do not play music CDs when playing ClockWerx.

Program runs slowly
If ClockWerx seems to run slowly or hesitates when you play the game, try turning off the background music. If the game still runs too slowly, try turning off the sound effects as well.

MEMMAKER and DoubleSpace
If you used MEMMAKER's custom setup and selected "Optimize upper memory for use with Windows," then you may experience problems if you are also using DoubleSpace or DriveSpace. You can check to see if MEMMAKER optimized for Windows by opening up your CONFIG.SYS file in your root directory with your Notepad accessory. Look for the line "device=c:\dos\emm386.exe win=xxxx-xxxx win=xxxx-xxxx" (where the x's are numbers). To solve the compatibility problem with ClockWerx, insert "rem" in front of the previous line and add a new line to your CONFIG.SYS file: "device=c:\dos\emm386.exe ram."

Two-Player Mode
If Player 2 is using the numeric keypad for game controls, be sure NUM LOCK is off before starting the game.

WinG
When you install ClockWerx, WinG is also installed with the game. If you see a directory called "~WING.TMP" in your root directory, you can safely delete that directory. ~WING.TMP is a temporary directory that is only needed for the ClockWerx installation.
