Some video card brands have circulated their own drivers which emulate Direct Draw but will not work when Direct Draw is installed on the system. If you experience graphic glitches in other applications after installing DeathKeep and Microsoft's Direct Draw drivers, you may wish to remove Direct Draw and reinstall your video card's proprietary drivers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SECTION 3: Frequently Asked Questions ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1) QUESTION: Why is it that when I put things in my right hand on the backpack screen the object appears in my left hand on the character strip? ANSWER: On the backpack screen, the hand and belt pouch boxes are reversed from what they show on the character bar. The hand and belt pouch boxes on the backpack screen do not match. 2) QUESTION: When I push the jump key, my character does not seem to jump very high or far, why is this? ANSWER: Characters do not jump very high or far until they locate magical items which assist them such as Boots of Leaping. Please note however, that the character will jump farther if the character is moving forward and jumping at the same time. 3) QUESTION: Why can't I drop items from the inventory screen? ANSWER: The character cannot drop items if the character is standing on an item, or has already dropped an item in the square that they are standing on. You will need to move the character to another square in order to drop the next item. Also, characters cannot drop items on sloped surfaces. 4) QUESTION: I have a 486-66 and the game runs slowly. Also, the music and cinematics break up and are choppy; why is this happening? ANSWER: During testing it was noted that some base platforms (486-66's) did not perform at optimal speeds during gameplay. Deathkeep utilizes a real-time 3D game engine which demands a high level of system performance from your computer. Game performance will vary depending on the brand/speed of your video card and CD ROM drive. Faster video cards and CD ROM drives will produce more fluid cinematics and game play. Adding more memory to your system will also increase game performance. Turning off music will also speed-up game performance (this may be done by pressing CTRL-M). If you use a 486-66, you may copy some key game files to your hard drive that Deathkeep frequently utilizes during gameplay. To do this, use the following instructions: - Create a folder in your DeathKeep folder entitled GLOBALS. To do this, open the DeathKeep folder on your hard drive. From the FILE menu, choose NEW, and then FOLDER. Name this folder: GLOBALS. - Next, copy all files from the GLOBALS directory which is on your DeathKeep CD to the GLOBALS directory which you created on your hard drive. - Launch DeathKeep from your hard drive using the DeathKeep icon. 5) QUESTION: My system does not have a sound card, will DeathKeep run without one? ANSWER: No, DeathKeep requires a sound card to run. DeathKeep will not work if a sound card is not installed.
