At the end of a Destruction Derby, there are two possible results: Sole Survivor - person that latest the longest in the arena and their time Master of Destruction - person that issued the most amount of damage to the other players Preplay - NOTES: a. Make sure that all computers are properly connected to the Network b. Verify that the network is not experiencing heavy traffic volume c. Remember, the slowest computer dictates the speed of the game, so you can have 7 - P200 and 1 - P90 computer, and the game will be played at P90 speed (i.e. SLOW!) d. Ask your friendly MIS Manager if you can play or better yet get them to play! f. For improved speed, make the server the fastest computer The person who is the Host (one who initates the game) decides the parameters of each game. The others are Clients who must wait in anticipation. Instructions: 1. Start DD2NET.exe 2. At Main menu, move the Highlighter to the Single Player selection and press enter 3. Move down list and choose the IPX Connection and press enter 4. From the main menu, go to the bottom right selection - GO and press enter 5. To access all tracks or to change racing choice press ESC, and then access the track selection option (all locked tracks should now be open) NOTE: all players must be connected to the Internet 1. One player (usually the guru of the bunch) should set up as the Host. They initate the game with DD2NET.EXE 2. Get your IP address (run winipcfg.exe) 3. Give this out to your racing flock (e.g. clients) 4. Setup the game as TCP/IP multiplayer 5. For optimal performance, use the 5 hz or 20hz setting 6. Clients need to also choose the TCP/IP selection and then enter your IP Address when prompted Both computers must be connected by a null modem cable to the available COM ports of each computer. The person that initates the game is the Host. User that initates call is the Host. Verify that each modem is operating properly and you are using the latest drivers. IV. Troubleshooting As a precaution, please make sure that all computers that run the game are Scandisked, Defragmented, and Virus checked. These programs will keep your computer in good working order. We have done a good amount of testing on this upgrade. However, as with any computer product there are many variables that could cause problems. Note: the person that sets up as the Host, MUST have the DD2 CD in the CD Rom Drive. The Clients DO NOT need the CD, but can only play the Multiplayer version of the game. Attn: Mystique owners, the game should run fine on your system. However, there is NO chip acceleration for the game. Do you have 20 players just itching for some demolition? The DD2 upgrade patch can be set to enable 20 Human players. To unlock the maximum number of human players from 8 to 20: 1. From Win95 desktop, open up an MSDOS shell 2. Change directories to the DD2 directory 3. Type DD2NET MORE 4. Game will start and the host can now change the number of human Players to greater than 8 (20 players maximum) Here are some potential problems and our possible solutions: YOU MUST HAVE DirectX version 3.0a installed to play this game. If you need these drivers, please visit our Website at: (www.psynosis.com/secure/directx3.zip) for them. Problem: Game locks up at the menu Solution: Please make sure that you are running the latest DirectX drivers (version 3.0a). This game must be operated with no other programs in the background. Problem: Cannot access the multiplayer game Solution: You may have missed the time window for the current game, contact the host and have her add you. Also, please make sure you are running the DD2NET.EXE to access the game. Choose the properly multiplayer game option. Problem: My expensive Joystick will not work with game Solution: Buy a cheap one, opps sorry! Please make sure that your Joystick is correctly connected to a functional game card or soundcard gameport. Then calibrate the joystick under Win95 (joystick control Panel). In the game, change control from Keyboard to Joystick. Every time your restart the game program, you need to set the joystick as the control device. Problem: During a multiplayer race, the game freezes or boots me out. Solution: There may be something wrong with your Network/TCP connection. Verify that you are properly connected. NO other programs should be running in the background (including screen saver). Completely exit the game and then retry the game. Problem: I hear no sound Solution: Check speaker connection and volume in Win95. Upgrade your soundcard drivers. Problem: When the race is over, I try to enter a new race and see session is closed Solution: Please exit out of the game, then re-enter and try again. If a race is in progress, you cannot join, sit back and read the exciting DD2 Manual until the next game. Problem: Give me more speed (Scotty?) Solutions: Basically, you can set the speed of data transfer from 5, 10, 20, and 40hz. This setting is the amount of data transfered per sampling. We guarantee 20hz stability and playability for IPX. For TCP, 5 or 20hz are recommended. The higher the HZ, the greater the chance of clogging/ crashing the connection medium. Also, if everyone playing is on a fast computer (P133+) and fast connection (28.8kps +), speed should not be an issue. Finally, the more people, the slower the game can get. Also, your Network, Internet Connection may be heavily used or congested. DD2 sends small data packets, but sends a large amount of them. V.
