SOFTWARE TROUBLESHOOTING FOR WINDOWS 1) WIN95 WITHOUT DIRECT X -- If you have Win95 operating system without DirectX drivers (or if you have a version lower than DirectX 6.0), you'll be prompted to download DCOM after installing DirectX 8.0a and rebooting. Just follow the onscreen instructions for download and install. 2) If your Dora Lost City autorun screen displays as greyscale graphics instead of color graphics, you may choose to set your color settings to 16 bit color. Note that this will only affect the autorun screen, as the game sets to 16 bit automatically, so the in game graphics appear correctly. To change your settings on Windows 98 or Windows ME, go to StartMenu\Settings\Control Panel. Then click on the Display icon and then on the Settings tab, and then finally set the Color setting to High Color (16 bit). To change your color settings on Windows XP, go to Start Menu/Control Panel. Then click on the Display icon and then on the Settings tab, and then finally set the Color setting to High Color (16 bit). 3) On Windows ME or Windows XP, you may receive this error message under certain circumstances: "Ddhelp: The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". Please reboot your computer and reinstall DirectX 8.1 to resolve the problem. To reinstall DirectX 8.1, use Windows Explorer to browse to the DirectX81 folder on the Dora Lost City CD. Double click on the dxsetup.exe file to reinstall DirectX 8.1. SOFTWARE TROUBLESHOOTING FOR THE MAC 1) If you are running OSX, you may receive an error message when you attempt to start the Dora Lost City game that says "The application Dora Lost City has unexpectedly quit". If you receive this message, you must set your desktop resolution to 1024x768. To set your desktop resolution setting, click on the Apple icon in the toolbar. Choose Systems Prefs. Select Displays from the hardware section of the System Prefs menu and finally choose the 1024x768 Resolution from the list. Your screen will refresh with the newly selected resolution and you can then click on the red X in the left corner of the menu to close this menu. 2) You cannot run the game from the CD. If you do, you will receive an error message. To solve this problem, please browse your hard drive using the Finder to the Dora Lost City Folder on your hard drive. Once you have opened that folder, you will see the Dora Lost City icon in the Dora Lost City folder. Double click on it to run the game. 3) Dora Lost City runs best on Mac OS 9 through OSX (version 10.1). 4) If you are running Mac OS 8.6, there are a variety of performance issues that you may encounter, such as audio clipping. In addition, you may need to have QuickTime open while you're playing Dora. QuickTime can be found in the Applications folder of your hard drive. Start QuickTime then start Dora Lost City and you're ready to play. Should you still encounter difficulties, please be advised that the game runs best on Mac OS 9 through OSX (version 10.1). 5) We have found some other issues running with the newest Apple Operating System 10.2, where the following may occur: a) The game may play in a window and not go to a full screen; b) The mouse may feel unresponsive or sluggish; and c) The mouse may fail to respond to clicks or there may be a delay before the click registers. 6) Some early versions of the Mac OS cannot properly run the Dora Lost City installer, and when you begin the install, the installer quits with an error type 3. To work around this, open the CD-ROM, drag the file CarbonLib to your System folder, then reboot your Mac. Double click on the Dora Lost City Installer to run the installer again.
