System requirements ------------------- Knowledge Adventure's I.Q Adventure System requirements are the following. Operating System: Windows(r) 95 or 98 Computer System: Pentium 90 with 16 Megabytes of Memory (RAM) SVGA Video card with 256 Colors Windows(r) Compatible Mouse 4x-CD ROM (Quadruple Speed CD ROM) Windows (r) Compatible sound card Recommended System: 14.4 BPS modem for internet game play. B. I.Q. Adventure Specifics. ------------------------- This section is for specifics to the application, such as last minute manual type stuff, help for audio tracks, that kind of thing. Delete it if you don't need it. C. Install I.Q. Adventure ---------------------- 1. Insert the I.Q. Adventure CD in the CD-ROM drive. 2. If your system supports the AutoPlay feature, then a Window will appear automatically. Select the option "Install" and follow the prompts. 3. However, if your system does not support AutoPlay, then select the Start button; 4. Choose Run from the Start Menu. 5. At the Open box, type "D:\setup.exe", where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. 6. Click on OK and follow the prompts. D. Uninstall I.Q. Adventure ------------------------ 1. From the Start button, select Settings, and choose Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the "Add-Remove Programs" icon. 3. Select on "Dr Brain. Thinking Games: IQ Adventure v1.0" and click on the "Add/Remove" button. 4. Follow the prompts to uninstall the program. E. Running the Program ------------------- 1. Insert the I.Q. Adventure CD in the CD-ROM drive. 2. For systems that support AutoPlay, a window will appear with the following buttons: Play - starts I.Q. Adventure Web - opens a browser window, if available. Help - opens an HTML or text help file Quit - closes the window 3. For systems that do not support AutoPlay, from the Start button, select Programs, Knowledge Adventure, Dr. Brian Thinking Games, and click on the IQ Adventure icon. Note: If your system is running a custom desktop, refer to the manufacturer's documentation for instructions on special circumstances. *********************************************************************** F. Troubleshooting and Performance Tips ---------------------------------- If the program is very slow: ---------------------------- 1. Close any unnecessary applications that may be running. 2. Make sure your display setting is at 640x480 resolution and 256 colors. Refer to your system or Windows documentation. 3. Fragmented hard drives can cause programs to run slowly. Try running "Disk Defragmenter" under Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools. 4. Turning down each of the three sound settings in the game will improve performance by not using those resources. Start by turning down the music volume. If this doesn't help, try turning down the sound effects. If display problems occur: -------------------------- If you experience graphics problems while running I.Q. Adventure, contact your video card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. If sound problems occur: ------------------------ If you experience sound problems while running I.Q. Adventure, contact your sound card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of their sound driver. Screen savers: -------------- If you are running a screen saver in the background and experience video and sound problems during the program, disable the screen saver and the problem should be resolved. Refer to your screen saver documentation on how to disable the screen saver. Known Problems: --------------- Diamond Stealth video cards don't display the beginning and ending movies clearly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Improving system performance ---------------------------- These tips are designed to improve your system's performance: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, then click Properties. 2. From the dialog box, select the Performance tab. 3. Click the File System button. 4. Select the CD-ROM tab. Set the Supplemental cache size to Large. 5. Match the Optimize access pattern setting to that of your CD-ROM. (It should be set to Double-speed or higher.) 6. Click Apply, then OK. 7. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Reinstalling I.Q. Adventure --------------------------- If you have deleted or uninstalled any parts of the program and are having problems reinstalling, follow these steps to manually reinstall I.Q. Adventure: 1. Insert the I.Q. Adventure CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Select the Start button. 3. Choose Run from the Start menu. 4. At the Open box, type "D:\setup.exe", where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. 5. Click on OK and follow the prompts. *********************************************************************** G. Technical Support ----------------- Video drivers and system settings --------------------------------- Information about your system's video drivers can often assist our Technical Support staff in diagnosing problems that are encountered when running the program. To get information about your system's video drivers: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties. 2. Click on the Device Manager tab. 3. Double-click on Display adapters. Device Manager also displays settings for hardware devices that are not fully supported by Windows 95 or are using device drivers that need to be updated. Contact the system vendor or manufacturer if any subkeys, such as those under 'Display adapters' or 'Sound, video and game controllers' are displayed with a red X or yellow exclamation mark.(Click the plus [+] sign to see the subkey.)
