Begin at the Windows desktop. 2. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 3. The Dr. Seuss Preschool startup window will appear. 4. Click the Install button and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. If the Dr. Seuss Preschool startup window does not appear automatically on screen, you can install the program manually: 1. Click the Start button on the taskbar and choose Run. 2. Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the line labeled Open. (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, substitute that letter for D.) 3. Click the OK button and follow the on-screen instructions to install Dr. Seuss Preschool. To Play After successfully installing the program, click the Run button at the startup window to start the program. The startup window will usually appear each time the CD-ROM is inserted into the CD-ROM drive. If the Dr. Seuss Preschool startup window does not appear automatically on screen: 1. Begin at the Windows desktop. 2. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and then Learning Company Software. 3. Click the Dr. Seuss Preschool menu item to start the program. To Remove If you need to remove Dr. Seuss Preschool, begin at the Windows desktop. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Click the Install/Uninstall tab and select Dr. Seuss Preschool from the list of programs. Click the Add/Remove... button and then click the Yes button to remove the program. Click OK to clear the screen. Windows 3.1x To Install 1. Begin at the Windows Program Manager. 2. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 3. Click the File menu, and select Run. 4. To Play After successfully installing the program, a program group titled Learning Company will be created in the Windows Program Manager. It will contain an icon labeled Dr. Seuss Preschool. Double-click this icon to begin playing. To Remove If you need to remove Dr. Seuss Preschool, begin at the Windows Program Manager. Double-click the Learning Company program group. Next, double-click the Uninstall Dr. Seuss Preschool icon. When prompted, click the Yes button to remove the program. TROUBLESHOOTING GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING We recommend not running other applications while running Dr. Seuss Preschool. Running other programs simultaneously, including screen savers, may affect the program's performance or the amount of computer memory available to run Dr. Seuss Preschool. WINDOWS 95 TROUBLESHOOTING Video Display Problems during Movies If you experience distorted video display or the image being shifted off-center on the screen while viewing the opening or ending movies in Dr. Seuss Preschool, you may need to adjust the settings in the QuickTime control panel. To do this: 1. From the Windows 95 Start button, select Settings and then Control Panel. 2. Double-click to open the QuickTime 32 control panel. 3. Click on the More button at the bottom of the control panel. 4. Select the Video tab and under Optimization set the Draw Method to Video Driver. If the Draw Method is already set to Video Driver, try setting it to Bitmap (BMP). 5. Click on Apply and then on Close. 6. Return to the program and try running it again. If you continue to have problems launching or running the program, try reinstalling the application. We recommend you use the Add-Remove Programs feature in Windows 95 to completely remove the program. To access this feature: 1. From the Windows 95 Start button, select Settings and then Control Panel. 2. Double-click to open the Add/Remove Programs control panel. 3. Click on the Install/Uninstall tab. 4. Click once on Dr. Seuss Preschool to select it from the list of programs. 5. Click the Add/Remove... button, and then click OK to uninstall the program. Poor Performance on Lower-End Systems If you experience stuttering sound or choppy animations while running the application, you may wish to turn off background sounds to increase performance. To do this: 1. From the Windows 95 Start button, point to Programs and select Windows Explorer. 2. Locate the Program Files folder and double-click to open it. 3. Locate the Broderbund Software folder and double-click to open it. 4. Locate the Seuss_PS folder and double-click to open it (if you installed the program in a different location, please navigate to that location and open the program folder). 5. Double-click the Seuss_PS.ini file to open it. 6. Under the [Debug Settings] section, locate the line noAmbients=false. 7. Change False to True so the line reads noAmbients=True 8. Click the File menu and click Save. 9. Click the File menu and click Exit. 10. Return to the program and try running it again. WINDOWS 98 TROUBLESHOOTING Black & White Movies If the opening and closing movies appear in black & white on your computer system, you may need to disable Active Desktop options. To do this: 1. Begin at the Windows 98 Desktop. 2. Right-click on the desktop and select Active Desktop from the context menu. 3. Select the option for View as Web Page to remove the checkmark. 4.
