FIGHTER PILOT Version 1.10 -- September 29, 1998 Copyright (c) 1998 by Electronic Arts, Inc. http://www.fighter-pilot.com Developed by Charybdis Enterprises, Inc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TABLE OF CONTENTS I. GAME NOTES II. MULTIPLAYER III. TROUBLESHOOTING ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I. GAME NOTES - To disable the demo countdown, go to Options and clear the check on "Demo Mode". - A Description of Special Weapons: Plane Weapon Function ----- ------ -------- F/A-18 Super Chaff Decoys all missiles currently flying at you (including the Immunizer missile in multiplayer). F-117 FAE Guided Air-to-Ground explosive that does massive damage. F-22 Immunizer Air-to-Air missile that cannot be decoyed with flares (however, it can still be dodged). Su-35 MIRV This splits into five missiles after firing. Does not require a lock, it will auto-aquire any targets. - The MIRV has an effective range of about 3.0 nautical miles. - Following your waypoints. On your Radar MFD there is a white arrow that moves around the outside of the radar circle. This white arrow always points to the next waypoint. To fly to the next waypoint, turn your plane so that the arrow is directly on top of the radar circle (at the 12 o'clock position). - In Flight NAV Map ('M' or 'F6' on the keyboard): Your primary and secondary targets will flash yellow in flight nav map. If you have the AWACS support selected you will be able to see the location of all of your objectives as well as all other enemy targets when looking at this map. - The Off-Screen Target Arrows show the direction of targets relative to your aircraft when they're not shown on your screen. The red arrows represent enemy aircraft, with the BRIGHT RED arrows showing the enemy aircraft is in front of you, and the DULL RED arrows showing the enemy aircraft is behind you. - Your missile refire rate varies depending upon the difficulty you select in the Options menu. You have two missile hardpoints on you plane so you may fire two missiles at a time and then must wait for the missiles to reload (the refire rate) to fire again. Difficulty Refire rate ---------- ----------- Novice 1 second Veteran 2 seconds Expert 3 seconds Ace 4 seconds - Special weapons have refire rates and cost points to use. Special Weapon Refire rate Score Loadout -------------- ----------- ----- ------- Immunizer (F-22) 5 seconds -500 5 MIRV (Su-35) 8 seconds -1000 3 Super-chaff 1 seconds -100 5 Fuel-Air Explosive n/a -1000 1 - Support Aircraft (F/A-18, F-22, EF-111, F4G): You can order the support aircraft to rejoin with you by targeting him (with the 'Q' key) and pressing the PAGE UP key. - If you target a moving ground object such as a truck convoy your missile is more likely to miss. Try getting closer to the moving targets before you fire. - Don't forget to use the HOME key to match the airspeed of the enemy aircraft. This will make it much easier to get behind them and line up for a good shot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- II. MULTIPLAYER - When joining a TCP/IP game, if an invalid IP address is input, it may take up to 1 minute for the session list to re-appear empty, at which point the player can cancel and try a different IP address. - The F-117 is harder to detect than other planes due to its Stealth Technology. In multiplayer games, other planes appear at 6 nautical miles (nm), but the F-117 Stealth won't appear on the RADAR until its within 3 nm. If playing with "special weapons" enabled, the F-117 will NEVER appear on the RADAR. In addition, the red target circle, yellow attack triangle, and red identifier text will never appear over the F-117, allowing it to be very difficult to spot visually as well as with radar. This stealth also applies to the "Player X is tracking you" message which will never be played when the F-117 is targeting another plane. Other players can never get a lock or any HUD indication of the F-117, making it VERY hard to find. The Fuel-Air Explosive (FAE) is not an air-to-air weapon, so it is not available in Multiplayer mode even with "special weapons" enabled. - Multiplayer mode has different refire rates as compared to the single player game. Weapon Refire rate -------------- ----------- Normal missiles 8 seconds Immunizer (F-22) 10 seconds MIRV (Su-35) 15 seconds Super-chaff 2 seconds - The FA/18 has 10 Super-chaff in multiplayer if special weapons are enabled. - The difficulty setting in the Options for the initial host of the game control the settings for ground collisions and mid-air collisions. - A newly starting or respawning plane is immune to damage for the first 10 seconds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- III. TROUBLESHOOTING A. 3Dfx Cards - If you have a 3Dfx board, but the 3Dfx checkbox does not appear on your Options screen, then you do not have Glide 2.X installed. The "3DFX" directory on your CD contains the latest Glide 2.X driver kit available at the time this CD was mastered. However, it is recommended that you get the latest drivers from your video card manufacturer. There are two files included in the 3DFX directory on the Fighter Pilot CD. Each is for a specific type of Voodoo card. Please check to make sure you have the appropriate file for the card you own before installing. File For 3Dfx Card ---- ------------- rkv2.exe Voodoo 2 Run-time driver kit rkvg.exe Voodoo Run-time driver kit - If you have a 3Dfx Voodoo Rush card we recommend that you download the latest drivers for your card from the manufacturer. Do NOT use either of the drivers included on the Fighter Pilot CD. B. Joysticks - If you have a programmable joystick, you need to make sure you program it to work with Fighter Pilot using the software provided by the joystick manufacturer. - If you would like to use these joysticks as a normal Windows joystick in Fighter Pilot, then you will need to clear the memory in the joystick. The programmable joysticks from ThrustMaster can all be cleared by powering down the computer (you can’t just reboot). In addition, the F-16 FLCS memory can be cleared by setting the download rocker switch on, then off. To re-enable the last saved program on the joystick, press either Button 1 on the WCS or S1 on the F-16/F-22 (it’s the red button near the index finger). C. DirectX 6.0 - Microsoft's DirectX 6 is required for Fighter Pilot to run properly. If you are encountering any unusual audio or video problems you may need to reinstall DirectX 6. To do this, insert the Fighter Pilot CD into the CD-ROM drive. Click on Start\Run... and then type D:\DIRECTX\DXSETUP.EXE (where D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click OK. Click on Reinstall DirectX. After installing the drivers, reboot your computer and try running Fighter Pilot again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- END OF DOCUMENT
