THE CONTROLS USING THE MOUSE Point and click to play with the Humongous Entertainment characters! As you move the mouse around the screen, the pointer changes to reflect the type of action it will perform when clicked. A clear arrow is the standard pointer in the game. When you see the empty outline, it means the arrow is not pointing at an object or character that can be activated. Pay attention when you see the pointer turn solid. It means that the object or character you are pointing at can be picked up, used, or activated. A large arrow indicates the entrance to or exit from a room or activity. DEMO HINTS BACKYARD FOOTBALL NOTE: DirectX 6.0 or higher is required for this demo. Backyard Football is the electronic version of the game you play with your neighborhood pals. The demo on this CD gives you a good idea of the fun you'll have when you play the full game. It will allow one or two player to play a shortened game with pre-made teams. Your commentators for the game are Sunny and Chuck. In the full game, there are several different playing fields, a 14-game season, an editor to create your own players, and even multiplayer support via the Junior Sports Network(tm). There are kids from all walks of life in Backyard Football, including young versions of some popular NFL players. All 31 NFL team names and logos can be chosen. Each kid has unique attributes, playing ability and statistics. You can choose teams or let the computer choose for you. You can also choose difficulty level, weather effects, which controls each player uses, and various gametime environment settings. Two Player mode Player One is always the home team and is controlled by the mouse. Player Two is the away team, and is controlled by joystick/gamepad (or keyboard if there is no joystick). The joystick must be recognized by DirectX for it to be useable. If a joystick is not found, the keyboard will be used by Player 2. Keyboard control for Player 2 in the demo are: cursor (arrow) keys affect menus, running, and choosing receiver Ctrl or Shift key affect menu selection, passing and switching Starting and Playing Once you've seen the intro and clicked on the Play Football button, the Play Selection screen appears. A player chooses a play by clicking on a thumbnail. Selecting the PG 1- 4, kick tabs reveal more plays. The 'flip play' button will flip the play top to bottom. The quit button will quit out of the game. Quitting the Demo To quit the demo, press the spacebar and click on Quit. You will see a dialog box asking you to confirm that you want to stop playing. FREDDI FISH 4: THE CASE OF THE HOGFISH RUSTLERS OF BRINY GULCH Freddi's cousin, Calico Catfish, has invited Freddi and Luther to visit her hogfish ranch at the world's first underwater Wild West town, Briny Gulch. Unfortunately, Calico Catfish has bad news: mysterious hogfish rustlers have stolen her prize-winning hogfish! In the demo, Freddi and Luther will need your help as they offer a hand to a few of the friendly locals of Briny Gulch. Characters whom you will meet in the Demo U: U's real name is Uriah Jedadiah Eruipides Algernon Fortesque Forsythe (he forgets the rest...), but you can call him "U." He doesn't seem to mind that his mail cart is broken, but others sure do, since the mail travels at ...well, at a snail's pace without it! Maybe Freddi and Luther can help fix his wagon. After all, the mail must go through! Gill Barker: Wheel nuts are fast talkin' Gill's specialty. Don't you wish he were around the last time you needed a wheel-nut? Things that you might need Wheel Nut: Unattached wheels aren't much good when you're in a hurry - or even when you're not in much of a hurry at all. Quitting the Demo To quit the demo, press the small computer in the lower left corner. You'll see another dialog box asking you to confirm that you want to quit. Click Points Don't forget to check out the click points you'll always find in a Humongous Entertainment product! Rocks, plants, and signs will produce amazing things! Click Points There are hundreds of hidden click points in the full Putt-Putt Joins The Circus. Even in the demo, you can click on almost anything on the screen and make it come alive. Click on a rock, a flower or a tree and watch as the fun and surprises begin! You can also use the keys on the keyboard to activate click points. But it will be random so press a key and watch the antics of the seemingly inanimate objects onscreen! Some click points will continue to respond with each successive click, and produce a different reaction each time! Be sure to click on an item more than once. Some click points even act as mini-games - a combination of click points that work together for even more fun. PAJAMA SAM 3: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT FROM YOUR HEAD TO YOUR FEET NOTE: PJ3 is available starting mid-April, 2000 Pajama Sam returns in his amazing third adventure! This time Pajama Sam chases down some snickering cookies, only to find himself in the midst of a food squabble! The fats and the sweets are forcing the healthy foods off of MopTop Island. An emergency peace conference has been called to calm the MopTop Island population, and four of the delegates are missing! Now, it’s your turn to spring into action to help Pajama Sam to find the missing delegates, put a stop to the sticky quarrels, and fix a few problems along the way. Our caped hero is able to bring unity to the island and still make it home in time for dinner! The demo starts after Sam makes the mistake of saying he wants more for dinner than just junk food. Unfortunately, he said it while surrounded by snacks, who take a dim view of his comments. So, we see Sam being put in a rather sticky, sweet jail! MOVING/INTERACTING IN Pajama Sam 3 A clear - or outline - arrow is the normal cursor in the game. When you see the outline version, it means the cursor is not over an object or character which can be activated. But watch for where in the room the cursor turns solid. It means that the object or character you are pointing at can be picked up, manipulated, or activated by clicking on it. A much larger arrow shows that there is a doorway to another area, and that by clicking there Sam will go to this new area if possible. WHen the cursor disappears, that means the game is controlling the action and wants to show you something. But if you don't want to watch, you can usually skip the animation (and any information imparted!) by pressing the ESC key. PAJAMA SAM'S INVENTORY Sam's inventory will appear when you move the cursor down to the bottom of the screen. Every time Sam picks up something, it goes into his cape. We can see these items by making the inventory appear. Sometimes Sam will need to use inventory items to solve a puzzle, or need to give an item to someone else. To use an inventory item, just make the inventory pop up and click on the item. If it can be used in the current scene, the cursor will change into a version of the item. Then, click this smaller item on an object or character on the screen to use the cursor item on the screen item. Also in the inventory is the Computer icon, on the far left side. In the real game, this provides several options such as Quitting, Saving, and Loading. In the demo, you can only Quit. LOOKING FOR CLICKPOINTS Sam's world is full of items that spring to life when you click on them. Look for the small cursor turning solid, then click and watch the fun and surprises unfold! Many items have multiple animations and sometimes you can click multiple times to generate multiple animations at the same time. PAJAMA SAM 3 HINTS The full version of Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat From Your Head to Your Feet has many more rooms and a lot more exploration for Sam to do. But this demo has only 4 scenes from the game, which we call Jail, Condiment, AX and AI. Sam starts the demo in jail, arrested by some junk food that doesn't like Sam's view on non-junk-food consumption. Already there is Florette, a delegate to a food convention. In the real game, the food convention plays a major part in the game. The first goal, then, is to escape. The candy bar left the jail door key on the hook on the wall. Can Sam reach it? Maybe if he had something to throw. What does he have in his inventory....a pumpkin with eyeholes. Try it. If that doesn't work, look around for something to throw. If you succeed, can you get the key? Maybe you need an extension to Sam's arm, something long with a hook on the end. Again, look around and remember that in this place _iron_ bars do not a prison make. Once you have the key, you can exit the jail. You won't be able to go back (would YOU, if you had just escaped?) Leaving the jail, you end up in Condiment In Condiment, there are no puzzles to figure out and you can't do everything you can in the real game. But be sure to check out the view and hunt for those clickpoints. Remember, many will have two or more possible animations so be sure to click on each more than once. From Condiment Sam can travel to AX AX is the area outside a rather odd-looking telescope building...well, odd to an adult but not to a child's imagination. Sam needs to get inside the telescope building but there are two yam guards blocking the way. Try talking to them. You might have to talk to them several times but eventually they'll give you a hint about how to get past them - if you use something in Sam's inventory ON SAM. If you manage to get past the guards, you go inside to AI In AI, believe it or not, there are still clickpoints. Try to find them. When you click on the telescope itself, Sam will look into it and the demo will end. PUTT-PUTT JOINS THE CIRCUS It's another sunny day in Car Town and the Bigtop Circus is in town. Putt-Putt and his pet Pep are on their way there. Pep has their ticket securely held in his mouth. All they have to do is get there...... simple, right? Unfortunately, there is a stubborn little goat blocking not only the road to the circus but also the train delivering supplies to the circus. Putt-Putt's Task In the full game, Putt-Putt must not only get to the game but once there help out getting the circus ready. It's all confusion there, with performers missing and things in the wrong place so he'll have his work cut out for him. In this demo, the goal is merely to get Putt-Putt to the circus. Putt-Putt's interface is the dashboard on the lower right part of the game screen. Any inventory items are kept in his "glove box" on the right side of the dash. Inventory items are things that Putt-Putt can pick up and use during his adventures. To use an item, just click on its picture in the interface and it will "stick" to the cursor. Now, click on something in the current scene with the item to try and use the two items together. For instance, if you wanted to give a brick in your inventory to a friendly car, you'd first click on the brick to pick it up and then click on the car with the brick and Putt-Putt will offer the brick to the car. Putt-Putt's dashboard is not only used to store the special objects that he collects throughout the game, but it also has its own special click points. Click on Putt-Putt's Ignition to stop the game (in the full game, the ignition brings up a Save/Load/Quit menu). Click on Putt-Putt's Horn to hear it honk. Click on Putt-Putt's Speedometer to hear him rev his engine. Click on Putt-Putt's Radio for humorous and interesting information. SPY FOX IN SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED Spy Fox' world is filled with interesting characters, puzzles, mystery, adventure, and endless amounts of fun! On his latest adventure, our secret agent is pitted against the wily Napoleon LeRoache, a bug gone bad and visions of conquest. In Some Assembly Required, Fox must stop LeRoache from using his giant mechanica dog - cleverly disguised in the World's Fair. Spy Fox's Task in The Demo After a brisk ski ride, Fox lands abruptly outside the secret S.P.Y. mobile command, hidden at the fair as a building (in the real game, it's hidden as something else). Here we meet two other S.P.Y. Corp operatives - MonkeyPenny and Professor Quack. We also learn that Talk Balloons, kept in Fox' pop-up interface, can let you ask questions about Napoleon LeRoach and Madame Ladybug. Your quest for the demo - find a rose. Gadgets: Spy Fox will need these for help in various situations. In the demo you only need one and Professor Quack will explain it to you. Spy Fox carries a Spy Gadget Stack Pack in his tuxedo. To use a gadget stored there, drag your cursor to the bottom of the screen and the interface will pop up. Click on the Spy Gadget Stack Pack, wait for it to unfold, then click on the gadget you want to use. It will "stick" to your cursor. Now click on the thing you want to use it on! Inventory Items: Spy Fox will need several items to help him solve this mystery - some things will be given to Spy Fox but you need to be on the lookout for others! You only need one in the demo and all Spy Fox has to do is ask the right people the right questions. Talk Balloons: Spy Fox can use these to get information on certain characters. For instance, click on Professor Quack with the talk balloon for the green-faced Napoleon LeRoach to hear what Quack knows about him. When you speak with a character who mentions a new character, a talk balloon for that new character will automatically be stored SpyFox's notebook. In the demo you will need to use talk balloons. Things you might need to do: Go to the ice-skating rink and try to get a rose, then go talk to Bea the bear using your talk balloons. You'll also need an appropriate Spy Gadget from the vending machine. Click Points Don't forget to check out the click points you'll always find in a Humongous Entertainment product! Click everywhere your mouse cursor turns solid. Quitting the Demo The demo is over after Spy Fox gets his rose, but the demo will restart itself. To quit the demo press the spacebar and click on Quit. You'll see another dialog box asking you to confirm that you want to quit. Click OK and the demo will exit to the Catalog main menu. You can choose another demo or click on the Exit button and leave the Catalog.
