Insert the game CD. You are automatically prompted to install or run the game. Alternatively, you can run Hoyle_Table_Games_2004.EXE directly from the top-level of the game CD. IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING INSTALLATION WITH DIRECTX 9: When this game installs, it first upgrades your Windows installer service software, if necessary. For some Windows 98 and WindowsME systems which require this upgrade and have DirectX 9 installed, a bug in the automatic upgrade installer can cause the upgrade to fail. If, after clicking Install from the game start screen, you see the error message "This installer package cannot be installed by Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service." or if the installer simply aborts, you must manually upgrade the installer service software. To do this: (1) Close all programs. (2) Navigate to the "resource" folder on the root of the CD, and run the InstMsiA.exe file. (3) Follow the on-screen directions for running the installer service upgrade. (4) Restart the Table installation by running the setup.exe file located in the same folder. The install should now work correctly. NOTE: In some Windows 98 systems, it has been found that simultaneously exiting Hoyle Casino and ejecting the program CD will occasionally result in a Windows system error. To avoid such issues, please wait until exiting completely from the game before ejecting the program cd. To uninstall the game, double-click the uninstaller icon found in the Hoyle Table Games 2004 group (in the Hoyle group of the Start Menu). Alternatively, you can uninstall Hoyle Table Games 2004 by doing the following: click the Start menu, click Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET ERROR 1311 DURING INSTALL If your Windows security policy is set to restrict CD access to the locally logged-on user only, you may get "Error 1311" from the installer, with the result that the installer quits without installing the game. (This happens because the Windows Installer does not install the software as the locally logged-on user; so if that policy is in effect, Windows Installer cannot access the CD properly.) In this case, there are two ways for you to get the game to install: copying the CD contents to your hard disk and installing from there, or changing your security settings and installing from the CD again. Solution 1: Copying the CD contents to your hard disk This is the safest and easiest method. It temporarily requires as much as 700MB of free space on your hard disk, but you can reclaim this space once the installation is complete. 1. On your desktop, double-click My Computer. 2. Double-click the hard disk (usually C: or D:) on which you want to create the temporary folder. 3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder. 4. Type a name for the new folder, and then press ENTER. For example, type InstallTemp. 5. If it is not already inserted, insert the Hoyle CD into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. (If the automatic install window comes up, cancel it.) 6. In your My Computer window, right-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click Explore. 7. On the Edit menu, click Select All. 8. On the Edit menu, click Copy. 9. Right-click the folder that you created in step 4, and then click Paste. 10. When all the files have been copied to the new folder, quit all other programs that are running, and then double-click Setup.exe in the folder that you created in step 4 to start the installer. 11. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 12. Once the game is fully installed and you have verified that it works, you can delete the InstallTemp folder. To do this, right-click on the InstallTemp folder and choose Delete. (Note: to reclaim the space, you must empty your recycle bin by right-clicking Recycle Bin on your desktop and selecting Empty Recycle Bin.) Solution 2a: Changing your security settings and installing from the CD again There are two ways to change your security settings. This is the safer and easier of the two. 1. From the Start menu, choose Settings and then Control Panel. 2. Double-click on Administrative Tools. 3. Double-click Local Security Policy. 4. In the left pane of the window, expand Local Policies and then click on Security Options. 5. Find the item named "Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only” 6. Double-click this item, change the setting from Enabled to Disabled, and click OK. 7. Close the Local Security Settings window. 8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down and restart your computer. 9. Reinsert the Hoyle CD and install normally. 10. Once installation is complete, you can restore your security setting by following steps 1 through 8 again, but this time changing the value in step 6 from Disabled to Enabled. Solution 2b: Changing your security settings with the registry editor WARNING: This solution should be used only by advanced users who are familiar with the regedit tool. Try Solution 1 and Solution 2a first, and only use this solution as your last choice. Using the registry editor incorrectly can cause serious problems and can make your computer inoperable. 1. From the Start menu, choose Run and, type regedit into the box, and press ENTER. 2. In the left pane of the window, expand the branch for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then Software, the Microsoft, then Windows NT, then CurrentVersion. Within CurrentVersion, click on the WinLogon folder. 3. In the right pane of the window, find the item named AllocatedCDRoms (which may appear in all lower-case). 4. Confirm that the Data column for AllocatedCDRoms is 1. If it is 0, or if AllocatedCDRoms is not present in the CurrentVersion folder at all, STOP HERE. This means that your installation problems are caused by something other than this issue. 5. Double-click on AllocatedCDRoms. 6. Change the Value data from 1 to 0, and click OK. 7. Exit from the Registry Editor program. 8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down and restart your computer. 9. Reinsert the Hoyle CD and install normally. 10. Once installation is complete, you can restore your security setting by following steps 1 through 8 again, but this time changing the value in step 6 from 0 to 1. If for some reason you still get "Error 1311" after you have made the change, run regedit again to confirm that the AllocatedCDRoms is 0. If it's not, this means one or more of your startup programs is forcing the value to 1. _________________________________________________________________ Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing UK Ltd take every care to ensure that our customers are treated in a professional manner and are dealt with in a way in which they deserve.
