EA SPORTS CRICKET WORLD CUP 99 README.TXT 1.0 April 19, 1999 -------- CONTENTS -------- * Manual Update * Hints & Tips * Improving Performance * Troubleshooting * Known problems * Key summary * FAQ * Support info ************************************************ Manual Update ************************************************ 1. The Human Control Fielding option has been removed from the game. All fielding is done automatically by the AI fielders based on formations set and edited by you. This forms part of the Captain's mode of play. 2. Movies. There is a menu item called Movies that will list all the victory movies of the teams you have played and won with. You can then go back and view these whenever you like just by clicking on them. ************************************************ HINTS & TIPS ************************************************ * Press the Space bar to fast-forward the action whenever the ball goes dead or at the beginning/end of an inning to set the players for the next ball. * When attempting to play certain shots, the batsman may end up outside his crease. Press the B button (button 2) to be sure to get him to return to the crease if he misses a shot or hits it short and is in danger or being stumped. * If you have chosen to watch a CPU vs CPU game, or have failed to allocate a controller to your team before entering a game in a Competition you cannot regain control of the action. You must start a new game. You have the ability to automate the game when playing a human vs CPU game. See the manual for instructions. * The attract mode demo starts after 2 minutes of inactivity in the menus. Press CTRL+A to disable/enable this function. Attract mode will alternate between the intro movie & playing a game with random teams that will play 1 over each. The main menu is also displayed for 10 seconds. The ESC key exits this mode. Please note that you cannot exit the Demo mode during the coin toss at the start of the demo match. ************************************************ IMPROVING PERFORMANCE ************************************************ If you are experiencing performance problems, try some of the following tips: * Try dropping the detail level in the game. High detail results in all the fielders using more polygons, which has an effect on the performance. Lower detail settings improves speed by reducing the number of polygons in the players furthest from the action. * Try dropping the resolution by pressing the F12 key and selecting 800x600 x16bit or 640x480 x16bit. * Disable the sound using the Sound Config menu. * Increase the amount of free hard drive space on the C: drive. * Increase the amount of RAM in your system. GAMMA CORRECTION / "IF THE GRAPHICS SEEM TOO DARK OR TOO BRIGHT" Your 3D video card should have the ability to adjust the gamma settings in it's control panel. For more information on how to do this please see the EA Technical Help file. WINDOWS NT Cricket World Cup 99 was not designed to run under Windows NT. CPU OVERCLOCKING If you experience random crashes and you are overclocking your CPU (especially with AMD K-5 and K-6 processors), try returning your CPU speed to it's original setting. MOVIE PERFORMANCE If your computer has problems playing the intro, verify that you are not using any 16-bit real mode drivers for the CD-ROM drive. You can check this by opening the Control Panel and choosing the System settings. Under the Performance tab, there is a line for File System. This should read 32-bit. If it has anything else in that line, contact the manufacturer of your CD-ROM drive for updated Windows 95/98 drivers. ************************************************ TROUBLESHOOTING ************************************************ If your computer has problems playing the game (crashes, returning to desktop, etc.), please try the following: 1. Reinstall DirectX 6. Run the DXSetup.exe program that is available on the CD-ROM in the \DirectX folder. 2. If you receive the message "CPU Not Supported", and you have a non-Intel processor such as an AMD K-5, try to run the game anyway. Many AMD processors show up as a 486 in verification tests, but if your machine is 'Pentium Compatible', it shouldn't be a problem. 3. Increase amount of free hard drive space on the C: drive, especially if you have 32 megs of memory. 4. Let Windows handle your swap file size. This can be adjusted by running the System Control Panel, selecting the Performance menu tab, then the Virtual Memory button, and selecting "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings". 5. Update the Windows 95/98 drivers for your Video card, Sound card, and Monitor. For more specific information on how to implement any of these suggestions, please see the EA Technical Support Help file. ************************************************ KNOWN PROBLEMS: ************************************************ * Running DirectX 6.1 may cause some strange graphical artifacts in the front end. This doesn't have an effect on the game itself. It is recommended that only DirectX 6 is used. *There may be some degree of corruption of the fonts with TNT video accelerators that makes the smaller fonts hard to read. Please visit the EA Sports website at http://www.easports.com.au for more info and/or a patch. * The game may not run correctly when the screen colour depth is set to 24bit. Please run the game in 16bit colour. ************************************************ Key summary ************************************************ Bowling Action Game Pad Mouse Keyboard ------ -------- ----- -------- Move the ball pitch indicator D- pad Move Mouse Arrow keys Apply spin, swing, seam or cut Hold B + D-Pad Right-click, hold + drag Hold X (button 2) + Arrow keys Start Delivery (Start Pace Meter) A Left-click Z (button 1) Complete delivery (Stop Pace Meter) A Left-click Z (button 1) (after ball has been released) Increase pace by 50% Double tap A Double left-click Double tap Z Decrease pace by 50% Tap A Left click Tap Z Batting Action Game Pad Mouse Keyboard ------ -------- ----- -------- Move Batsman D-Pad Move Mouse Arrow keys Move batting direction cone Hold B+ D-pad Right click, hold + drag Hold X + Arrow keys Play Stroke A Left-click Z (button 1) Defensive stroke B Right-click X (button 2) Run A Left-click Z (button 1) Sprint Tap A repeatedly Left-click repeatedly Tap Z repeatedly Return to Crease B Right-click X (button 2) Play Power Stroke Press A+B simultaneously Left & Right-click simultaneously Press Z+X simultaneously Other Keys ---------- Fast Forward to next delivery Spacebar Camera views F1-F10 Video resolution selector F12 Activate in-game menus ESC Disable/enable attract mode CTRL+A Replay Camera ------------- Zoom view in to target Right-click, hold + fwd/back Pan view around target Left-click, hold + left/right Select target Left click on the player's head Play back the replay in real-time Right-click on replay shuttle ************************************************* Frequently Asked Questions ************************************************* Q.
