TIPS & TRICKS Here are some tips and tricks you might find useful as you play Texas Huntin': * Full-Screen Display King of the Hill Texas Huntin' displays in a window size of 640 by 480 pixels. To make Texas Huntin' completely fill your available screen area, change the screen resolution of your monitor before starting the product. To do this, open the 'Display' Control Panel, select the 'Settings' tab, and look at the list of available 'Resolutions'. Choose a resolution of 640 x 480. You can change the settings back after you've finished exploring Texas Huntin'. Note that reducing the screen resolution may also enable your monitor to display more colors (higher color depths). If this is the case, and your monitor is not already set to 'High Color' (16-bit) or greater, be sure to select the 'Color Palette' list as well and choose the highest available color depth. Save your changes and launch Texas Huntin'. (For more information on monitor settings, refer to the manuals that came with your computer.) ........................................................................... TROUBLESHOOTING King of the Hill Texas Huntin' is designed to use the full multimedia capabilities of your computer. Performance may vary according to the configuration of your computer system and CD-ROM drive. For best results: * Make sure you have an appropriate system configuration as described in the System Requirements section. In particular, make sure you have enough system memory. * Make sure you have installed the Texas Huntin' program files as well as the necessary system extensions and drivers, including QuickTime 4. For more information, refer to the Installation section in this document, and the informational booklet included with the CD-ROM. * Make sure you have turned off all background processes, such as screen savers and networking services, while playing 'Texas Huntin''. * Make sure your monitor is set to display its maximum bit depth (number of colors). Although Texas Huntin' works with 256 colors, your experience will be significantly improved when your monitor is set to 'High' color (16-bit color) or greater. If your monitor cannot be set to higher color depths, you may be able to enable more colors by first setting the screen resolution to a smaller size, down to a minimum of 640x480. Setting a smaller screen resolution also has the effect of enabling Texas Huntin' to completely fill your display as you play. You can change your monitor settings in Windows' 'Display' control panel. If you are having problems running King of the Hill Texas Huntin', read the following. Hardware-related issues: * Video. Many video problems can often be traced to incompatible drivers for the video board. If all else fails, it often works to substitute the generic Microsoft SVGA driver that comes with Windows. * Audio. In general, make sure your sound card is properly configured and that you are using updated drivers. Also, your CD-ROM drive should not be connected to a SoundBlaster 16 board. * CD-ROM. Make sure your CD-ROM drive is properly configured, that it is not accidentally sharing a DMA channel with another device, and that the CD-ROM cache is not too large. For more information regarding system configurations, please refer to the documentation that came with your computer or contact your dealer. QuickTime Movies: * King of the Hill Texas Huntin' uses a highly compressed format for storing QuickTime movies (digital video). Consequently, older machines may not have the processor speed necessary to smoothly display some video sequences. * You may also want to check Apple's website for the latest QuickTime updates: http://www.info.apple.com/quicktime/ Sound: * On some Windows machines, you may experience difficulty in adjusting the sound volume within King of the Hill Texas Huntin' (such as via Global Controls). This is due to limitations with specific sound cards, or sound driver compatibility issues. If you are having difficulty adjusting the volume, try the following: - King of the Hill Texas Huntin' uses QuickTime audio technologies to provide optimal sound playback under Windows. Make sure QuickTime is correctly installed from the King of the Hill Texas Huntin' CD-ROM. - if you have DirectSound installed, make sure you have up-to-date drivers: http://www.microsoft.com => downloads => search for 'DirectX' or 'DXSetup.exe' Alternatively, remove DirectSound from your system and restore your original sound driver. - if the problem persists, you can adjust the sound volume from your system's control panel (e.g., Start -> Settings -> Control Panel => Multimedia) before launching King of the Hill Texas Huntin'. * In some cases, you may notice sounds starting to play with a slight delay (this can be noticeable when characters speak). This is likely the result of sound driver performance degradation. In this case, quit Texas Huntin' and restart your computer to clear the problem. If the problem persists, it may be due to incompatible, corrupted, or incorrectly installed sound drivers; see the troubleshooting tips listed above. Operating System and Software-related issues: For optimal performance, make sure you have installed the latest Service Pack for your version of Windows.
