Windows will automatically detect the CD and begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Matt Hayes Fishing. If you need to install DirectX8.0a, you can do this as part of the installation. 4. The installation program adds a program group called Matt Hayes Fishing to your Start/Programs menu, and a shortcut to your desktop (optional) Click on this shortcut or alternatively click on the start button on your Windows task bar. Under Programs/Matt Hayes Fishing select Matt Hayes Fishing to play. Note: If the Autorun feature has been disabled or the CD is not recognised, run Setup.exe from the root directory of the CD to begin the installation program. ---------- 3. DirectX ---------- For your convenience, we have included DirectX8.0a on the Matt Hayes Fishing CD. a) Installing DirectX8.0a directly from CD (if you skipped it during game install) Matt Hayes Fishing comes with DirectX8.0a and will prompt you to install it during installation. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the Matt Hayes Fishing CD is in the CD-ROM drive and browse to the following folder. "\Directx" and click on DXSETUP.EXE b) DirectX8.0a and supported hardware We recommend that Matt Hayes Fishing be run with DirectX compatible sound boards and video cards. While there is a chance that Matt Hayes Fishing will run with non-DirectX compatible hardware, you may find that: i) Sound quality suffers. ii) The game runs slower. iii) The game does not run at all. If your sound card or video card does not support DirectX, please contact your vendor. ------------ 4. Uninstall ------------ To uninstall Matt Hayes Fishing go to Programs/ Matt Hayes Fishing in the Start menu. Click on Uninstall Matt Hayes Fishing to proceed. Alternatively, click on the Start menu, select Settings and then Control Panel. Now find Add/Remove Programs and click to run. Scroll down the list until you see Matt Hayes Fishing, select it and click on Add/Remove to uninstall. -------------------- 5. 3D Device Setup -------------------- For systems equipped with 3D video accelerators, it is highly Recommended that the latest versions of all video drivers be obtained and installed. A software-rendering mode is provided for those without 3D accelerators. A configuration utility called "3D Device Setup" is installed with Matt Hayes Fishing. When you install and play the game for the first time, "3D Device Setup automatically asks you to confirm the default selection, and normally users will find this selection satisfactory. 3D Device Setup is provided for the following unusual cases: - You have installed or removed video devices - You have more than one supported 3D accelerator installed - The default rendering interface has failed Whenever you install or remove video devices, do not run Matt Hayes Fishing again without first running the 3D Device Setup from the Start Menu. The 3D Device Setup shortcut is located in the Programs / Matt Hayes Fishing / 3D Device Setup in the start menu. 3D Device Setup will test your system for the presence of supported video devices (this may be accompanied by a black screen flash on your monitor). When 3D Device Setup appears, click the OK button to select the default video device, or choose an alternative 3D accelerator or rendering mode by clicking on it and then clicking OK. If an installed video device does not appear in the list of video devices, then it is NOT supported and cannot be selected for use with the game. It is highly recommended that the latest versions of all device drivers (i.e.video and sound card drivers) be obtained and installed. Please consult your card manufacturer for their newest drivers. ------------------------------ 6. Troubleshooting Video / 3D cards ------------------------------ Video / 3D cards that use the ATI 3D Rage Pro chip set do not fully support Matt Hayes Fishing. We strongly recommend that you select an alternative video card or choose Software Rendering. Video cards that use the 3DFX chip (Voodoo brand etc.) no longer have support for DirectX libraries 8 and above. As Matt Hayes requires DirectX 8.0a or higher you may encounter problems when running the game in hardware mode on these cards. If you do have problems please choose Software Rendering from within the 3Dsetup utility. The 16MB version of the Number Nine Revolution IV graphics accelerator does not fully support Matt Hayes Fishing. We strongly recommend that you select an alternative video card (if available) or choose Software Rendering. Users of the Radeon VE card may encounter water surface flashing in game, this can be overcome by opening the options menu whilst in game and choosing an option (e.g. Audio), once this option has been opened you may go back into the game and the flashing will disappear (note: there is no need to change an option for this to take effect). Users of the Savage 3D card should run the game using Software Rendering. -------------------------- 7. Default Graphics settings -------------------------- The first time Matt Hayes Fishing is started, a system check is performed and default levels are set for the options on the Graphics menu. These default levels are set to provide the best game play experience possible depending on the hardware detected in your system. These settings can be adjusted in the Options/Graphics menu in the menu system or in the game. On slower machines, the sliders are set to the left side to increase performance. This will remove some objects and special effects. The farther the slider is moved to the left, the more objects and visual details are removed. On faster machines, the slider is set farther to the right to increase the visual detail of the game. This adds objects, water animation, and other special effects. The farther the slider is moved to the right, the more visual enhancements are made. ----------- 8. Peripherals ----------- Matt Hayes Fishing supports Microsoft Windows-compatible keyboards, mice and DirectX compatible game controllers (10 buttons recommended) Madcatz Fishing Rod: Users of the Madcatz Fishing Rod who are running Windows 98/2000/Me and XP will benefit from running the Madcatzupdate.exe file found in the support folder on the root of the Matt Hayes Fishing CD. This will give full support and a vibrate function for this controller when playing the game. -------------- 9. Trouble Shooting -------------- Note for Windows XP users: Windows XP has a feature called Fast User Switching; this allows multiple users sharing the same computer to have individual profiles and to swap their current work spaces without logging off. Matt Hayes Fishing does not fully support this feature and you may encounter an Access Violation error when trying this. ----- 10.
