INSTALLATION NOTES: 1) If you do not have Video for Windows on your system (or are unsure if you do) then run the "Video for Windows Setup" by double- clicking that icon. The movies will not run without Video for Windows. 2) To ensure optimal performance, you may wish to restart Windows after running the "Video for Windows Setup." 3) Note that the minimum and maximum install options (as detailed on the quick install card) are no longer available. There is only one standard installation. PERFORMANCE NOTES: 1) McKenzie & Co. is not designed to run in 256 (8 bit) color. If you run McKenzie & Co. in 256 color mode, the video will be displayed in black and white and you will encounter palette problems. 2) We recommend you run McKenzie & Co. in 32K color or 64K color (hi-color) mode for the best video performance. We recommend 16 million color mode (true color) only if running on a Pentium-based system. 3) McKenzie & Co. is optimized to run in 640x480 pixel resolution. For best performance, we recommend you run the game in this mode. 4) If you receive an "insufficient memory" or "out of memory" warning or experience other performance problems (such as a game lock up), try increasing the size of your Windows swap file. We recommend a minimum swap file size of 20 MBytes. Windows 3.1 swap file settings can be changed from the Windows Control Panel by clicking on the "386 enhanced" icon and selecting "Virtual Memory." 5) Some users of RAM DOUBLER for Windows 3.1 may experience problems with McKenzie & Co.. If you experience game problems while running under RAM DOUBLER, we recommend that you run the "Uninstall" program from the RAM DOUBLER installation diskette. NOTES FOR WINDOWS95 USERS: 1) If you chose an alternate directory for where to install McKenzie & Co., the directory name CANNOT be longer than 8 characters (i.e. a DOS standard filename). If you included a name that is longer than 8 characters, you MUST reinstall McKenzie & Co. or the game will not run. Example of pathnames: C:\GAMES\MCKENZIE (valid pathname) C:\MY_CHOSEN_PATH (invalid pathname -- too long) 2) If you are experiencing jerky video or otherwise unsatisfactory video or sound performance during the game, you may have incorrect hardware drivers for your system. Note that you must have "protected mode" NOT "real mode" drivers. Contact Microsoft or your hardware vendor to determine if you have the latest Win95 drivers. NOTES ON MINI GAMES: 1) The following mini games are both mouse and keyboard "aware": Abacus Ticket Taker Library Books Marching Band Ring Toss Weeds and Violets Paint Drop Moving the mouse during the game causes the "token" to follow the cursor. If you wish to play using only the keyboard, do not move the mouse while playing. 2) The previously listed games also have keyboard support for the following functions: "Q" = quit, "P" = play/pause, "M" = music on/off, "S" = Select difficulty (help screen). 3) If you are playing a scenario (i.e. Carly-Brandon) and decide to play the mini games (from the main menu), you must FIRST save your current game scenario or it will be lost. After playing the mini games you can pick up where you left off by selecting "load". If you have any other questions or concerns, contact HER INTERACTIVE technical support at (505) 880-1718.
