Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor Readme 1.2 10/01 Thank you for purchasing Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. This Readme includes last minute additions to the manual, performance tips, and suggestions for problems you may encounter. Here is the Recommended Machine Specification: Pentium III 500 or Equivalent 128MB of RAM 32 MB video card such as Geforce 2, Voodoo 5 or ATI Radeon or better Sound Blaster Live or Aureal Sound Card Recommended for multiplayer: Host - Pentium III 600MHz or AMD 600MHz or faster Clients - Pentium III 500 or Equivalent Broadband: DSL, Cable or Satellite connection Techincal Issues: If you have problems running Pool of Radiance: Check to make sure you do not have any other programs or utilities running in the background. Check to make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your video card. If you have video problems, check to make sure you have anti-aliasing turned off on your video card. Pool of Radiance does not support anti-aliasing. In most case, Direct 3-D is set properly. In some cases, older 3-D cards and drivers are set to anti-aliasing on. This causes a variety of problems including 3-D glitches, crashes and major slowdowns. Performance Tips: It is recommended that you have at least 150 MB free on the drive where your copy of Windows is installed. Windows uses a "swap file" on your hard drive to temporarily transfer data that does not fit into RAM. You can check the space on your drive (or drive partition) by opening up My Computer and right clicking on the drive icon (usually C drive) and selecting Properties. To get optimal performance, it is recommended you do not run any other programs in the background including anti-virus, other applications, or system monitor software. It is recommended you defragment your hard drive on a monthly basis to optimize performance of your disk drive. You can find the Windows defragment software under the Start Menu at Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Defragmenter. There is a known cursor slowdown for Voodoo 3 users when a menu overlaps another menu, or when dialogue appears and you have selected 32 bit color; this can be avoided if the desktop is set to 16 bit color. There is a known crash if using Windows ME at 1024x768 and the user tries right clicking on the screen outside of the black box area once you have started the game but the video modes have not changed yet (this is an extremely short amount of time). If you attempt to install your game and receive Error number 0x80004005, this is due to the computer being unable to recognize your sound card. A sound card is necessary to play Pool of Radiance. If you have a sound card, please check to make sure it is seated properly. To ensure the best performance for Multiplayer games, please make sure that you are connected to the Internet before trying to Create or Join a Multiplayer game; attempts to connect after the game has started might result in graphics glitches as a direct response to tasking out of the game. Errata on the Manual: pg 83 - The feat Precise Shot only applies to bows and slings. pg 91 - Stacking rules should read "All items in the game that exhibit magical bonuses to AC are considered "deflection bonuses", with the exception of armor, which is an "enhancement" bonus." pg 106 - Undead foes may make Spell Resistance checks to avoid damage done by Divine "Curative" spells such as Cure Light Wounds. pg 107 - Darkness causes foes to have a 50% miss penalty against the target of the spell. Foes have a -4 to their attack versus all other characters in the confines of the spell. pg 113 - Hold Poison is also a 3rd level Paladin and Ranger spell as well as a 3rd level Cleric spell. pg 129 - Barbarians get the first part of their Uncanny Dodge at level 2 and the second part at level 5 instead of levels 3 and 6 respectively as it states in the manual. Other Issues: SINGLE PLAYER 1. To move an item from one inventory screen to the next within a character's backpack, you must first equip or drop the item in question, clear some space in the first inventory screen, and then place it there. 2. To move between screens in the Character Generation process, use the left click to proceed (no keyboard commands will work). 3. If you drop an item while in combat, you may not retrieve that item until combat has finished so be careful what you decide to drop. 4. Casting spells multiple times on a character will have multiple entries in the Effects box under a character's full detail sheet; each spell will show its duration listed in rounds after its name. 5. 1st level sorcerers begin the game with 5 cantrips instead of 4. 6. If the cursor is over the Game Interface box (lower left), the Character Interface box (lower right) or the space in between, the keyboard will not work; move your cursor out of this area to resume keyboard functionality. 7. It is possible to create sorcerers, paladins, rangers, and clerics with starting scores less than 10 in Charisma and Wisdom respectively; be forewarned that doing so will not allow you to cast spells at all. Consult the section of the manual labeled "Picking a Profession" for more information on this topic. 8. Bodies, treasure, and dropped items are removed after a level transition; bear this in mind when deciding what to leave behind and what to keep. 9. Although you can target your own allies with special combat abilities like Power Attack, they will not harm them. 10. When fighting Pelendralaar at the end of the game, the Immune message a character might receive refers to an immunity to his dragonfear ability. 11. Characters who fall to 0 hit points (HP) are treated as though they are dying and will lose 1 HP a round unless they are stabilized in some fashion. 12. All scrolls, potions, and salves are usable only once. 13. A utility has been provided with Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor that allows you to output a text file that converts your save games from string-based character names to the name you gave them when you saved. To do this run the FileNameUtility.exe and your save games will be converted for ease of reference. 14. If you have placed a flag to add a note on the in-game map feature, and you left click at any time outside the text box, your flag will disappear; Use the enter key when you are finished typing in your message to set the flag on the map. 15. The activation cursor for objects that can be interacted with will appear over objects in rooms you have no line of sight to as a way to let players know they can explore/destroy/interact with said objects. You may interact with these objects once you have placed your characters in the room. 16. Bonus spells for a high ability score are only applied once; so, for example, if you have a Paladin/Cleric with a 12 in Wisdom that character will only receive 1 bonus spell and not two (one for each class). 17. Right clicking once a spell has been selected but before you choose a target will cancel you out of the spell. MULTIPLAYER 1. To remove a player from a multiplayer session, use the hotkey CTRL+K; this will take you to the Connections screen, and allow you to remove that player from the game. 2. Clients in a multiplayer game may notice brief pauses as characters become locked or unlocked by the host; this will not disrupt or inhibit game play. 3. Players may only ever create new characters in the single player character roster; these characters will appear for both single play and multiplay sessions. 4. Players who have been removed from a multiplayer party will reappear after a level transition has been made, giving you the chance to re-add them to the party or to simply ignore them and move on. 5. When connecting to Gamespy, you must first go through Pool to set up a game room to see PoR:RoMD installed under the games section; afterwards entering Gamespy either through Pool or directly will cause it to show up. Entering Gamespy directly the first time you wish to set up a game room will not show Pool under the installed games. 6. The first time you connect to Gamespy the Session name may not appear, thereby disallowing you to create a game; try again a second time and it will work with the Session name showing up as it is supposed to.
