NETWORK GAMES]----------------------------------------------------------- To play network games, you must be running an IPX network driver, such as the IPX protocol under Windows 95. PD IPX drivers are available for DOS on the internet, you will need a driver for your network card and an IPX driver. If no valid IPX exists, the options to play network games will not be available. The Windows 95 version uses Winsock version 1.1 to communicate over an IPX network. This should be installed by default when the IPX protocol is installed in Windows 95. If you have a dial up connection to AOL, CompuServe, or another service provider which installs its own version of winsock.dll, the game may not function correctly. The only currently supported version of winsock.dll is the standard distribution from Microsoft. The network game runs using a locked speed system. This means that a multiplayer game will run to the speed of the slowest machine playing the game. If you find the game runs too slowly, try turning down the detail levels on all machines (turning off the stadium display in particular helps a lot.) (See section 1 for detail keys) Network games cannot be paused; to quit a network game press the escape key (this will not abort the game, but will drop the player from the game, and replace the player with a computer player on all other machines). [3. DOS]--------------------------------------------------------------------- To set up your soundcard to run with this product, please run the SETSOUND program. There is a batch file to do this in the root of the game installation, called SETSOUND.BAT. From this point, you can select your particular sound card, or let the program attempt to auto detect your card. To improve the speed of this game, we recommend you use a VESA 2.0 graphics driver if your card supports it. If your graphics card does not support VESA 2.0 in hardware, you may be able to use software drivers, such as UNIVBE from Scitech. As well as speed improvements, this should allow you to play the game at a variety of different screen resolutions. If you find the game is running too slowly to play, try turning down the detail of the game, or disabling the sound. (please see section 1 for detail keys.) [4. WINDOWS 95 DOS BOX] ----------------------------------------------------- If you are running this game from a Windows 95 DOS box we recommend that you disable auto-insert notification for your CD-ROM drive, as this will prevent Windows from task switching back to your desktop to install the Windows version. Windows in unable to restore certain video modes used by the game, and will terminate the application. [5. WINDOWS 95]-------------------------------------------------------------- To play this game, you will need Microsoft DIRECT-X v3 installed on your computer. This is automatically installed if needed when you install the game; if you have an earlier version already installed, this will automatically be updated to version 3. This may mean that you need to reset your computer before you can play. This game uses the Windows 95 sound system, so no sound setup is necessary. All game controls remain the same as the DOS version, apart from joysticks; if you have a four or six button pad set up in Windows 95, this will be automatically detected by the game. If you find the game is running too slowly to play, try turning down the detail of the game, or disabling the sound (please see section 1 for detail keys). If using the Creative Labs 3D Blaster card please ensure that you are using the latest versions of the '3D Blaster PCI' drivers. Older drivers are known to cause problems. Drivers are availiable from creative labs web site at www.creativelabs.com .
