It means that the object or character you are pointing at can be picked up, used, or activated. A large arrow indicates the entrance to or exit from a room or activity. Blue's Birthday Adventure Blue is a curious little blue puppy who lives with her friend Steve. In Blue's Birthday Adventure she's helping Steve plan her birthday party. Blue leaves clues for Steve-marked by a blue paw print- which he deciphers with your help. The full game is divided into four clue sets, called pathways. Each pathway includes a Blue's Clues game with three clues and three or four activities. The activities include matching and sorting items, creating a personalized birthday card, making music, putting puzzles together, baking a cake and much more! By successfully solving each clue set you help make Blue's birthday special! Since the demo is a small portion of the full game so you'll only see part of one of the pathways. This demo is intended to give you an overview of what the game is about and how the game works. See the Parents' Section for more information. In the Blue's Birthday Adventure Demo you can Skidoo from the toy room into the farm picture on the wall and explore to your heart's content! Play the Find My Friend activity, collect an object, use it and find a clue from Blue! Installing Blue's Birthday Adventure Demo When you click the Blue's Birthday Adventure demo icon you will see the install dialog box. We must install support files in order for the demo to run and this requires 2.9 MB of space on your hard drive. The install screen indicates how much free space is available on your hard drive. If you have enough space and want to accept the default destination directory click the OK button, the files will be installed and the demo will begin. If the program doesn't detect enough space on the destination drive, you will see a warning message. You have the option of attempting the installation anyway, but the game won't run if all of the required files are not on the hard drive. You can exit the installation, try to free up some space (for example by emptying your Recycle bin and/or deleting any temporary files from your TEMP directory) and run the installation again. Advanced Options You can accept the default destination or may specify the drive and directory where you want the game files installed. To change the destination, type the path (drive and directory) directly in the field where you see the c:\hegames\bluesbirthdaydemo\ path (click to place your cursor there first) or click on the Browse button, find the directory you want and then click OK. If you choose a directory name that does not exist you will see a message about it. Click OK and the directory will be created for you. After clicking OK you'll see the copy progress bar. When the files have all been installed the demo will begin. If you want to cancel the install click on the Cancel button and the files will not be installed. The Interface Inventory Bar As you play Blue's Birthday Adventure you look for paw prints, which indicate clues, and other goodies to help solve the clues or enhance Blue's birthday party. These items appear as large icons in a bar at the bottom of the screen. This is called the inventory bar. In the demo you only find one clue and collect one item, but you'll see them both in the inventory bar. The Handy Dandy Notebook is where you keep the clues you've collected. Paw prints & Clues: You'll see paw prints on the inventory bar until you find clues and then the notebook page with the clue drawn on it will appear in place of a paw. This makes it easy to tell how many more clues you still need to find. In the demo you're looking for one clue. The Party bag is always in the inventory. This is where presents and noisemakers are stored in the full game, but there aren't any in the demo. Objects will appear on the inventory bar to the right of the party bag when you've picked them up. To use an object click on it, then move the cursor into the game area and click on the item or character you want to use it with. The Traffic Light is always available. Click on it when you want to leave the demo. Blue Skidoo In Blue's Birthday Adventure Blue Skidoo means jump to a remote location! Blue and Steve skidoo right into the farm in the picture frame on the wall when you click on it. Steve will even sing a little song about it! It's another way to get around in Blue's world. Clickable Surprises Don't forget to look for clickable surprises in the demo for Blue's Birthday Adventure. They are hidden everywhere! You can click almost anything on the screen and bring Blue's world to life. Click on the balloons, toys, barn, haystack and watch as the fun and surprises begin! Most clickable surprises will continue to respond with each consecutive click, and produce several different reactions, so be sure to click on an item more than once. Some even act as mini-games - a combination of clickable surprises that work together for even more fun! The Birthday Demo In the full version of Blue's Birthday Adventure there are four pathways. Each pathway includes a clue set, consisting of three clues each and three or four activities. Solving all four sets of clues will reveal the answers to what Blue wants to give her friends at her party, what she wants to eat, what she wants to do and what she wants to play at her party. Your task is to help Steve discover the answers to these questions. Blue's Birthday Adventure Demo is a small portion of the full adventure. The demo begins with Steve asking you to help him figure out what Blue wants to eat at her party. As you explore you'll discover a clue and an activity. You can visit the toy room and the farm in the picture on the wall. Click on the picture and Steve and Blue will Skidoo into the picture! Find a clue: There's a lot to do on this farm! One of the chicks is trying to grow vegetables in his garden. He's planted the seeds but doesn't know what to do next. When the chick figures out that he must water the seeds he needs your help. How will he water the seeds? Click on the watering can and it will appear in your inventory bar. Click on the can in the inventory and it will "stick" to your cursor. Now click on the chick and he'll ask Blue to help water his seeds. The chick's garden will grow and a clue will appear! In the full game you will have to solve a problem or play an activity to reveal some of the clues in each pathway. Handy Dandy Notebook: Once you've found the clue you must enter it in the Handy Dandy Notebook. At the intermediate difficulty setting (the default for the demo) the clue appears in pieces to the right of the notebook and you must put them together to make the picture of the clue. Once you have "drawn" the clue it's time to move on! After you've found the one clue, and entered it in the Handy Dandy Notebook, you will return to the garden but the demo will end when you click to leave this area. You may want to find the farm animals and play the activity there before you visit the garden. If you miss the farm animals you can always restart the demo. NOTE: No game play information is saved in the demo so each time you play you'll have to find the clue. Find My Friend: Head on over to the corral to see the animals -a pig, a cow and some baby chicks too! The chicks are all atwitter about Blue's birthday party. But they have a problem, they've lost their party hat partners. Click on the chick wearing the hat that matches and the chicks will rejoice when you're right and give you another chance if you're wrong. If you still can't find the right hat, the chicks will show you and then give you another set of hats to choose from. You can play the demo version of Find My Friend as many times as you like. Click the Traffic Light to quit the demo from this activity. Difficulty Settings In the full version of Blue's Birthday Adventure some of the activities have different difficulty levels --beginning, intermediate and advanced. The demo is set to the intermediate level and can not be adjusted. See the Parents' Section slide show for more information. Blue's ABC Time Activities There are seven activities in Blue's ABC Time Activities, including one where you create stories with the words you collect while playing the other six! The activities include Alphabet Maze, Bathtime Rhymes, Felt Friend's Word Puzzles, Mailtime, Safari Snapshots and Snacktime. Each one is designed to help build early vocabulary and pre-reading skills. Each time you successfully complete an activity you'll collect one letter toward a word for Blue's Word Book. You may have to repeat an activity three or four times to complete one word but you can play all of them again and again. Some of the activities have multiple difficulty levels that automatically adjust as you play to continually challenge. Since the demo is only a small portion of the full game you won't see all of the activities. The demo is intended to give you an overview of what the game is about and how it works. See the Parents' Section for more information. In the Blue's ABC Time Activities Demo you can play one of the seven activities, Bathtime Rhymes. The demo version of this activity has no difficult level adjustment. ABC Time Activity Bathtime Rhymes: Slippery Soap needs your help to make some rhymes! In this activity, Blue stirs up the suds in the tub and four bubbles with pictures in them rise above her. Slippery will tell you the name of each picture. Click on one of the bubbles and Slippery will start a rhyme. Then Blue will splash four more bubbles out of her tub so you can find a word to finish the rhyme! To hear a word again move your cursor over the bubble and Slippery will say the word. If you don't choose a word that rhymes Slippery will give you another try. If you still can't find the word that rhymes Blue will show it to you and you can start another rhyme. Each time you successfully complete a rhyme you collect one letter toward a word for Blue's Word Book. You won't use the words in the demo but in the full game you use the words you've collected to make silly stories in Blue's Word Book. When you want to stop playing click the Quit icon in the upper left corner of the screen and you'll return to the demo main menu. Blue's Word Book In the full version of Blue's ABC Time Activities you collect one letter toward a word each time you successfully complete an activity.
