Play: Clicking Play will take you to the Classifieds, where you can pick from three types of jobs: Vieux Carre Routes, AAA Long Hauls or Stromboli Import Export Trucking. Vieux Carre Routes Complete a series of pick-ups and deliveries in a set amount of time. AAA Long Hauls Travel interstates delivering cargo to truck stops, gas stations and hotels. You will have to log your rest stops, fuel-ups and weigh-ins while keeping in compliance with trucking regulations and the law. Stromboli Import Export Trucking Make your way through a series of missions where you will do jobs for the Stromboli Brothers. This is a story-based mode where you will have a direct impact on the outcome of the plot. You’ll have to deliver and pick up contraband, bribe police, and waste anyone who gets in your way. While playing any Stromboli job, you can run over and kill people for bonus points. For each person you kill, you will get an additional Family Jewel. (In the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.) When you acquire 10 jewels, you gain an extra minute on the clock. If you collect 30 jewels, you will receive a letter. If you can spell MAFIA with these letters, you’ll get a surprise. Also scattered throughout the Stromboli jobs are special icons that will allow you to go on killing sprees. There are also clue folders that will hint at jobs to come, and other game secrets. Options: The Options menu lets you change the game’s settings. Music: Adjusts the volume of the game’s music. Sound FX: Adjust the volume of the game’s sound effects. PC Performance: Adjust this setting to improve performance. The default is Fast. If the game is not performing well, try lowering this setting. Configure Control Settings: Customize the game controls. Disable Training Mode: Click Yes to turn off certification mode. Clicking No will cause certification mode to run each time you play Rebel Trucker. Exit: Return to the Main Menu. DIRECT X In order for your game to properly work, your computer's hardware drivers (the software you install for your sound and video cards) must be fully compatible to work with Microsoft DirectX 9 or greater. New versions of Direct X are available on www.microsoft.com/downloads. It is your responsibility to get the latest Direct X for optimal performance. The software provided to you on the CD is the latest version at the time of shipping this title, however you must still ensure that your computer is capable of running Direct X with no conflicts, and current drivers. To check your DirectX status: 1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. Type "C:\Program Files\directx\setup\dxdiag.exe" and click OK. 4. The Direct X Diagnostics Tool will start: If either your DISPLAY(s) or SOUND shows up as "Uncertified" you must contact your sound or video card manufacturer and get newer drivers that are "Certified" by Microsoft to work with Direct X 9. This may be the case even if you have just purchased your computer system, as drivers are regularly updated as often as 3 or 4 times per year. If you do not know what brand of sound card or video card you have: 1. Click Start and highlight Settings 2. Click Control Panel 3. Double-click on your System icon 4. Bring your Device Manager to the front 5. Your video card is listed under "Display Adapter" 6. Your sound card is listed under "Sound, Video and Game Controls" B. INSTALLATION PROBLEMS If you are having problems getting the game to install, there are a few general troubleshooting steps you can take to help things along: 1. Make sure you have enough hard drive space. You must allow for an extra 50 MB of Hard Drive space (on top of the minimum hard drive requirements) in order for the files to be copied and expanded onto your hard drive. 2. You may have old and unused files in your C:\Windows\Temp directory. If you have any files located here prior to installation, you can delete these. 3. If you have any programs or utilities running during installation, you should turn those programs off. C. GAME PERFORMANCE There are some options you can change while in the game to improve performance. Go to Options from the Start Menu, and use as follows: PC Performance: Slow is a setting for lower end machines Medium is a setting for mid size machines Fast is the default, and should be used with better machines. If you notice that the game is moving at a slow rate, exit to Start menu and use the "PC Performance" config from the Options menu to adjust. D. SOFTWARE CONFLICT If you have gone through these troubleshooting steps and your game is still not working properly, this may be the cause of a software conflict. Your system may have one or more utilities running (Virus scanners, Phone answering software, CD Rom utilities, game controller button mappers.) To rule out the possibility of a software conflict, "End Task" all applications (Keep Explorer and Systray running). Re-boot your computer and try again. D. HARDWARE CONFLICTS 1. General Video Card Issues and Troubleshooting - 3D accelerator cards with at least 64MB of video memory are required to play. If your 3D video card only has 32MB of RAM, your card is unsupported. V.
