TROUBLESHOOTING ------------------------- THQ thoroughly tests its games on a variety of systems before they are released, but it is virtually impossible to test on all combinations of software and hardware. Many of the issues you may encounter are caused by device drivers for video cards, sound cards and CD-ROM drives that are not fully compatible with the Windows operating system and/or DirectX. The following troubleshooting tips are intended to assist you in solving some of the common issues you might experience in relation to the game. -------DIRECTX 8------- During the "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games" installation process, the program will determine if Microsoft DirectX 8 needs to be installed on your computer. If so, the Microsoft DirectX 8 setup program will install the appropriate files on your computer. After installation of DirectX 8, you may be prompted to restart your machine for the new drivers to take effect. If you chose not to install DirectX 8, and you find that later you need to install it, follow these directions (Or simply re-install the game making sure to click YES when asked to install DirectX 8): 1. Insert "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games" Disc into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Wait a few moments until the "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games" splash screen appears. 3. Click on the Install DirectX 8 button. If you have AutoPlay disabled, you can manually launch the Microsoft DirectX 8 setup program by doing the following: 1. Insert "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Gamesr" into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click on the CD icon in the My Computer window. 3. After the "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games" window is open, double-click on the DXSTEUP Icon, located in the DXSETUP folder. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions. For those of you unfamiliar with DirectX, it is an API (Application Programming Interface) set that increases the functionality and speed at which games play under the Windows operating system. These API's allow direct access to the enhanced features of hardware under Windows. With DirectX, a program has instant access to the hardware, allowing for great advances in graphics, sound, video, 3D and network capabilities of games. If you have other Windows games on your computer, chances are you already have an earlier version of DirectX installed. In this case, the Microsoft DirectX 8 setup program will update your files. This should not affect any games using previous versions of DirectX. Should you encounter problems with DirectX, go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ for additional information. =================================== Windows 95 users: If you have never installed DirectX, you may need to install the Microsoft DCOM95 package, which is included on the Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games CD-ROM. Game Locks Up With Diamond Video Driver Disabled In The Control Panel 3. Graphic Corruption and Crashes On Riva 128 Chipset Video Cards 4. Graphic Corruption on Riva TNT Video Cards 5. Audio Corruption on sound cards using the Aureal chipset. 1. Windows Taskbar Flashes On Screen In many versions of Windows, the "AutoHide" and "Always On Top" taskbar settings may cause the taskbar to "flash" in the game. Turning off these settings fixes the problem. 2. Game Locks Up With Diamond Video Driver Disabled In The Control Panel Make sure that the checkbox "disable in this hardware profile" does not have a check in it. To see how it is set, go to the Control Panel, select the System icon, and click the Device Manager tab. Locate the Diamond video card driver under Game Controllers and select Properties. If you check the box, "disable in the hardware profiles," your computer may lock up. Don't do that! 3. Graphic Corruption and Crashes On Riva 128 Chipset Video Cards If you are using this video card, you may crash when you select any buttons in the main menu. Part of the display will look corrupted, or "trashed." As is often the case with video problems, downloading and installing the latest drivers from the manufacturer may fix the problem. 4. Graphic Corruption on Riva TNT Video Cards While playing the game, you may see black vertical lines on your video display. In some cases, these lines continue when you exit the game. New video drivers from the video card manufacturer should fix the problem. 5. Audio Corruption on sound cards using the Aureal chipset. On some sound cards using the Aureal chipset, such as the Monster Sound MX400 series, audio may become corrupted when Direct X Hardware Acceleration is set to Full Acceleration. To fix this problem, follow these steps: 1. From the Start menu, select Run. 2. Type "dxdiag" and click OK. 3. When the Direct X Diagnostic tool opens, click on the Sound tab. 4. Set the Hardware Acceleration slider to Standard Acceleration. 5. Click Exit. -------CUSTOMER SUPPORT------- If you have any comments and/or questions about "Rocket Power Extreme Arcade Games" or any other THQ products, please feel free to contact our customer support department. The express waiver by Company of any provision, condition or requirement of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of any future obligation to comply with such provision, condition or requirement. Notwithstanding anything else in this Agreement, no default, delay or failure to perform on the part of Company shall be considered a breach of this Agreement if such default, delay or failure to perform is shown to be due to causes beyond the reasonable control of Company.
