NOTE: If you are experiencing this you will need to update your operating system with a patch from Microsoft. Windows(R) 95 users should go to http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom95/dcom1_3.asp. Windows(R) 98 users should go to http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/dcom1_3.asp. - Camera angle no longer 'sticks' in place after a player is injured. - The Player Editor now functions properly. - Many scoring errors have been addressed. - The number of strikeouts has been toned down in the game and quick-sim. - Players will no longer disappear while warming-up in the bullpen. - Players properly regain fatigue in the playoffs. - Game now supports Gravis(R) GamePad Pro USB controller. - Gravis GrIP Game Pads now operating properly with the game. - Microsoft(R) SideWinder(R) FreeStyle Pro now works properly with the game. - The Hall of Fame now works properly in career mode. - Computer manager less aggressive when making changes to a human team's lineups and rosters. - New interrupt added for Season Play will warn the user if the computer needs to make changes to the team roster. - Black bats have been added. - In software mode, bringing up the pitching key will no longer crash the game. - Players can now be manually placed in Rookie-A rosters. - Ball physics have been improved in the field (i.e. rolling, bouncing, etc.). - Injured players can stay on the major league roster. You will have to place them on the DL manually. - Free agent screen now functioning properly. - In a full season, teams will always play 162 games, no more and no less. - Players with familiarity in catching will no longer one-hop throws to second base on steal attempts. - Fixed problems related to use of the F11 hot key in multiplayer games. - Manage-only "bunt defense" works properly in multiplayer games. - Simultaneous lineup changes work properly in multiplayer games. - Fixed problem with losing the ability to click on the chat box in multiplayer games. - Fixed problems in multiplayer games when one player chose blimp view. NOTE: Be aware that changing your camera view to blimp view will change some of the other player's camera views (e.g. batting camera switched to blimp will switch the other player's fielding camera to blimp). - Pitchers won't magically reappear on the mound after being taken out of the game. - If a hit ball strikes the foul pole over the homerun line, the play will be scored as a home run. - Blimp view angled properly. - No more roster limits at the end of a season. - Player of the Game AI improved. - Bunting is improved. - Improved defensive positioning. - Find Players feature now operating properly. - Yamaha DS-XG sound cards now operating properly with the game. - Computer will no longer cut a player after trading for him. - Bringing in a pitcher cold works properly. - Fake player creator improved. - Pitchers properly warm up in one-pitch mode. - Only 2 pitchers may be warmed up at one time. - Auto-draft now lists players as they are picked. - Computer will no longer use pitchers as pinch hitters. - Number of short-term injuries reduced considerably. - Auto-defensive alignment now properly shifts infield/outfield. - Injuries are now listed on roster screen printouts. - The home team dugout is now properly set in Yankee Stadium. - Injuries now heal properly during the playoffs. - Relief pitchers come into game warmed up if previous pitcher is injured. - Error numbers are more realistic. - Pitching rotation automatically resets for the playoffs. - If Windows start bar is configured to the left side of the screen, it no longer interferes with graphics in the game. - In-game stat bars now show playoff stats separately from season stats. - Baserunning AI has been improved. - Fielding AI has been improved. - Problems in the player editor have been addressed. - Boxscores now get displayed after all played games even if the "Save Box Scores" option is disabled. - The Lineup and Bullpen screens are capable of showing both Season and Playoff stats. - Screen savers are disabled upon starting the application and re-enabled when you quit. - The stadium you pick no longer gets reset when returning from the View Stadium option. - Revised Keyboard Controls: In High Heat Baseball 2000 v 1.1, keyboard controls work the same as they did in version 1.0. The following hotkeys have been added to give the user more control when using auto-baserunning: [Ctrl] + 1 Orders a hit and run play. [Ctrl] + 2 Tells baserunner on first to steal second base. [Ctrl] + 3 Tells baserunner on second to steal third base. [Ctrl] + 4 Tells baserunner on third to steal home plate. - v 1.1 Multiplayer Information: High Heat Baseball 2000 v 1.1 further optimizes the quality of gameplay over internet services like: HEAT.NET, MSN(TM) Gaming Zone and mplayer.com(TM). Please note that there is an increase in latency when computers configured with different operating systems (i.e. Windows '95 and Windows '98) connect to each other. We recommend that in multiplayer games over the internet that you set baserunning to automatic control in the Team Settings Screen. High Heat checks to see if it was launched from an internet game lobby during startup. On some systems this can result in an attempt to establish a network connection by dialing a modem line or an ISDN line. The command line option -nolobby will disable this check. You can then play a single player game without the machine attempting to establish a network connection. To add this command line option, right-click on the shortcut to High Heat Baseball 2000 in your Start Menu under 3do and High Heat Baseball 2000, select "Properties" and edit the "Target:" field by adding a space followed by "-nolobby" (without quotes) at the end of the field. For example, the target (or "command line") "C:\Program Files\3do\High Heat Baseball 2000\hh2k.exe" would change to "C:\Program Files\3do\High Heat Baseball 2000\hh2k.exe" -nolobby ........................................... 2) Update v. 1.1 Installation Instructions Please choose one of the following two options to update your copy of High Heat Baseball 2000. Using the GameUpdate(TM) Program: GameUpdate is a program that searches the 3DO website for game updates for your 3DO games. You must be connected to the Internet for GameUpdate to function. 1. Connect to the Internet. 2. Go to Start | Programs | 3DO | High Heat Baseball 2000 | 3DO Support. 3. Follow the instructions when the GameUpdate window opens. Downloading from the Web: -Click on the "HH2K1_1.exe" link below to download the patch to your computer. If your web browser asks you where you want to save the file, make sure to save it to the same hard drive that High Heat is installed on. -Double click on the "HH2K1_1.exe" file. The program will search for the path to High Heat Baseball 2000 on your hard drive. A status bar will appear for each of the files that will be updated. -If the High Heat directory cannot be found, the program will ask you to find the High Heat program. Navigate to the High Heat directory on your hard drive and select "HH2k.exe" and click "OK". The program will then install the update. -Check the version number on the new "HH2k.exe" file by right-clicking on the file, choosing Properties, clicking on the Version tab, and checking the File Version number. THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENT IS THE ORIGINAL READ ME FILE INCLUDED WITH THE RELEASE VERSION (1.0) OF HIGH HEAT BASEBALL 2000. 4) Game Installation Instructions To install High Heat Baseball 2000: Insert the High Heat Baseball 2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive. If you have Autoplay enabled, the installation screen appears. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation of High Heat Baseball 2000. If you have disabled Autoplay within Windows 95/98: Select "Run..." from the Start menu. Left-click on the BROWSE button. Left-click on your CD-ROM drive in the list, then left-click on the file called "Setup.exe" and press OPEN. Left-click OK to begin installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation. To run the game after installation: Open the Start menu and open the Programs submenu. Select the 3DO program group, and choose High Heat Baseball 2000. You can also run High Heat Baseball 2000 by opening the game folder located in the "Program Files\3DO" directory and double-clicking on "Hh2k.exe." You can also start the game by double-clicking on the High Heat Baseball 2000 icon on your desktop. NOTE: If you choose to do a Minimum install, you may notice occasional drops in framerate during gameplay. You may be able to minimize this effect by turning the volume settings for the Announcer and the Stadium Announcer down to zero. ........................................... 5) Gameplay Refer to your High Heat Baseball 2000 game manual for gameplay instructions. Additional information on gameplay is available from within the game under Utilities in the Main Menu. High Heat Baseball 2000 is currently not supporting the mouse wheel found in some of the newer Microsoft and Logitech(tm) mouses. The VCR Replay camera control has changed. Both the VCR-like controls and the camera positioning controls are available from the same controller. To switch from VCR mode to camera positioning mode, press the button specified in the Game Manual as the button which would switch the control between the two controllers. The custom camera now lets you point the camera in different directions during gameplay. Controls are similar to the ones for the VCR camera controls. NOTE: Do not remove the CD-ROM while the game is running. NOTE: High Heat Baseball 2000 comes with a Player Editor which is a powerful tool that you can use to modify existing player stats and ratings as you like. Changing a player's statistics to highly exaggerated values could cause High Heat Baseball 2000 to become unstable. Experiment at your own risk. ........................................... 6) ALT-TAB Key Use and Other Keyboard Information In High Heat Baseball 2000, you may press [ALT]+[TAB] on your keyboard to the Desktop; however, we strongly recommend you close all programs before running High Heat Baseball 2000. The following are Hot Keys that may be used during a game: [ESC] During game play, you can press the Esc key to bring up the Pause Menu. [F1] Displays the Pitching Key during game play. [F2] Toggles the batting camera between low, high, pitcher and blimp angles. [F3] Works in conjunction with F2. When switching between low and high batting camera angles, you can stop the camera movement by pressing F3 for a customized height setting. [F4] Displays the next 3 batters due up. [F5] Displays the statistics for both the batter and the pitcher. [F6] Toggles displayed statistics between current season, previous season, and career statistics. [F7] Toggles displayed statistic between combined handedness, stats vs. left-handed opponents, stats vs. right-handed opponents, and stats relative to the handedness of the current opponent. [F8] Toggles display of baserunner statistics. [F9] or [R] Replays the last pitch and diagrams the ball path as it approaches the strikezone. [F10] Toggles a heads-up display showing the strikezone. [F11] Toggles a heads-up display showing the "actual" strikezone. The actual strikezone may differ from the standard depending upon whether you have the Variable Umpire option enabled. [F12] Toggles the chat window display on or off during network play. [Backspace] Activates the chat window (so you can type messages) during network play. [Q] In Net Play, acts as an emergency quit-game button if pressed while in remote pause. NOTE: Some keyboards have built-in Windows volume controls. High Heat Baseball 2000 is not compatible with these keyboards and volume should be adjusted from within the game. Consult the High Heat Baseball 2000 game manual for instructions on how to adjust game volume. ........................................... 7) Multiplayer Information High Heat Baseball 2000 supports multiplay action over direct connection, LAN and the following Internet gaming services: HEAT.NET (http://heat.net) MSN Gaming Zone (http://zone.msn.com) mplayer.com (http://www.mplayer.com) When launching High Heat Baseball 2000 through one of these on-line services, some of the introductory movies are not shown. After the movie, you will go right into the Game Options dialog, which serves as the connection screen. Once a game is completed you will come back to Game Options after the Box Scores. If you quit a game, you will exit High Heat Baseball 2000 and go back to the Internet lobby where you started. If you need to install the software to run these services, double-click on your CD-ROM drive to bring up the High Heat Baseball 2000 AutoRun program. Click the Multiplayer button, and then click the button for the service you wish to install. Once the software has been installed you may launch a mutliplayer game on the service you have installed by either using the shortcuts in your Start Menu or through the AutoRun's Multiplayer screen. If you are using modem for a direct connection, the person joining the session has the option to configure their modem from within High Heat Baseball 2000. To do this: - Select Modem Connection for Direct Play as the connection option. - Leave the Phone Number field empty and click OK. - This will bring up a standard modem configuration screen. - Configure your modem as you choose, enter the desired phone number, and click OK. It is recommended that in multiplayer games that each team use the auto-baserunning setting. NOTE: Modem-to-modem direct connection and connection via serial cable are not currently supported in High Heat Baseball 2000. NOTE: The Pitcher Warm-Up Option described in the user manual is disabled in multiplayer net games. ........................................... 8) Video Card and Other Hardware Drivers / Direct X High Heat Baseball 2000 works on any D3D compatible video card. If your video card is not D3D compatible, then you will have to run High Heat Baseball 2000 in software mode. Video preferences are determined the first time you run the game. High Heat Baseball 2000 requires Microsoft DirectX 6.1 to run. You are given the option to install DirectX during the installation of High Heat Baseball 2000. If you wish to install DirectX separately, do the following: - Open Windows Explorer. - Navigate to your CD-ROM drive. - Open the DirectX folder on the High Heat Baseball CD. - Double-click on Dxsetup.exe and follow installation instructions. For further information about the latest Direct X drivers please refer to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/directx. VIDEO HARDWARE NOTES: ATI Rage Pro video cards must set their desktop to 16 bit color before running High Heat Baseball 2000. Users with the Matrox Mystique 1164sg-a should change their Lighting setting to "NONE" in the video preferences screen when they first run High Heat Baseball 2000. Users with video cards using the 3dfx(R) Voodoo2 video chip set should NOT run High Heat Baseball 2000 in 1024x768 UNLESS they are using SLI mode. Users of the Voodoo I video chip set should not use 800x600. Users with video cards using the S3(R) Trio video chip set should NOT run High Heat Baseball 2000 in 1024x768 mode. The game is not compatible with this chip set in that screen resolution. You can alleviate most video display problems simply by going to you video card manufacturer's website, downloading the latest drivers for your card, and installing them to your computer. ........................................... 9) Changing Your System to Use Small Fonts High Heat Baseball 2000 will not work properly if your system is set to Large Fonts or Custom Fonts. To change to Small Fonts do the following: - Close all open programs. Changing font size will require that you restart your computer after you have changed your font size. - Right-click on your desktop. Select Properties from the pop-up menu. - Select the Settings tab. - If you are using Windows 98, click on the Advanced... button. Users of Windows 95 may skip this step. - Find the section titled Font Size. - Choose Small Fonts from the selection box in the Font size section. - Left-click Apply and the Close.
