This introductory walkthrough will take you through the first scenario and acquaint you with the controls, information menus, and build menus. Install and begin playing the game using the Installation Instructions included with the game. From the SeaWorld title screen, click on the Start button. The next screen allows you to choose which scenario you would like to play. The first scenario, entitled “Beginner 1: Starting Out” is automatically highlighted. Begin this scenario by clicking the Start button. After the scenario loads, a window with information about the current scenario will display. After reading through this information, click the check button in the lower right-hand corner or the X in the upper right-hand corner. Moving Around Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move forward, back, left, or right around the park. You can also turn and change elevation using the mouse. Hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse left or right to turn, and up or down to change elevation. Practice moving around the park using both methods at once. There are many interesting attractions already in this park. Get a look at them all. When you are comfortable with the controls, move on. Getting Information on Attractions To view information on any building within your park, click on it with the mouse. If you were close enough to the building, an information menu will arrear. Otherwise, the building will move to the center of the screen. If this happens, just click the building again while it is in the center of the screen. An information menu will appear, displaying information and options available to the building you clicked on. Different buildings will have different information and options. Look through the different pages of the menu by clicking the tabs at the top of the menu. Consult the manual for an explanation of the specific information and options you see. When you are done viewing the information menu, click the X in the upper right-hand corner. Building Attractions Let’s begin completing the scenario objectives. If you need a reminder of the objectives, click the button near the bottom of the screen that looks like a trophy. Your first objective is to build a Mango Joe’s Restaurant. Click the Build button to bring up the Build menu. The Build button has a picture of a crane. The four tabs represent the four different types of buildings you can build. From left to right, they are: Animal Exhibits, Rides, Restaurants, and Facilities. Click on the Restaurants tab and then click on the picture of Mango Joe’s Restaurant, the rightmost picture in the first row. Now click the Build button in the lower right-hand corner. The building appears attached to your cursor. Find an open space in your park large enough to place the building. Use the normal movement controls to look around your park. Use the mouse’s wheel to rotate the building. Place the building close to a path, but far enough away that you can build a waiting line between the building and the path. Look at other buildings in the park to get an idea of the appropriate distance to place a building from a path. Once you have found an appropriate spot, left-click to place the building. Now that you have placed Mango Joe’s, you must build a waiting line between it and the path. Click the Scenery button, which is next to the Build button and has a picture of trees and a path. The Scenery menu opens, which contains both path and waiting line construction options. Choose the red colored square, which is the waiting line. One square of waiting line is automatically built at the entrance to Mango Joe’s. Extend this line by left clicking in a square adjacent to the already existing line. Repeat this process until the new waiting line reaches the path system. Now guests can dine at Mango Joe’s Restaurant. Build a Sky Tower and a Kraken using the same procedure. After you have constructed all three buildings, the objectives for the scenario are complete. At this point, you will be given a chance to continue playing the current scenario or exit to the menu. If you exit, you will return to the scenario selection screen, and the next scenario will be unlocked. Play through the remaining “Beginner” scenarios to learn about other aspects of being a SeaWorld Tycoon, such as employee management and animal care. The remaining scenarios are more challenging, and will test what you have learned. When you have truly mastered the skills of a SeaWorld Tycoon, try a “Sandbox” scenario, and construct your own park completely from scratch. V.
