INSTALLING THE PROGRAM ------------------------------------------- * Insert the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. * If the AutoRun feature is enabled for your CD-ROM drive, select Install from the AutoRun screen. * If AutoRun is not enabled, click Start and then select Run from the Windows® Taskbar. * Type "d:\install". ("d:" refers to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM drive is not d, type the appropriate letter.) * Follow the installation instructions on the screen. * After installation is complete, you'll find the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) icon in the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) menu of your Barbie(tm) programs. * You can also click the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) shortcut icon on your desktop. III. RUNNING THE PROGRAM ----------------------------------------- * Insert the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. * If you have AutoRun enabled for your CD-ROM drive, click Play on the autorun screen to run the program. * You can also select Start/Programs/Barbie(tm)/Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) from the Windows® Taskbar. IV. UNINSTALLING THE PROGRAM --------------------------------------------- * Select Start/Programs/Barbie(tm) /Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm)/ Uninstall Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) CD-ROM from the Windows® Taskbar. *Some files or folders may need to be manually removed. To do this, locate the Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm) folder on your hard drive and delete it. V. TROUBLESHOOTING AND SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TIPS -------------------------------------------------- 3D video card support --------------------- If you experience any graphics problems while running the program, make sure that the graphics card on your system has full DirectX 8 support. To verify, perform the following tests before running the program. 1. Run the DxDiag diagnostic utility from C:\Program Files\directX\setup. (You may also type 'dxdiag' at the Run box of the Start menu if available.) 2. With the DxDiag Diagnostic Tool window open, click the Display tab. This window displays the video driver installed onto your system and the memory for the video card. In the DirectX Features section, DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration and AGP Texture Acceleration must all be Enabled. 3. Test DirectX 8 support by implementing the tests for DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texturing. Click the button for each, one at a time, to perform the tests. If the DirectDraw or Direct3D tests fail, you will need to contact your video card manufacturer to obtain the latest drivers for your video card. Windows Taskbar --------------- The Windows Taskbar may interfere with your ability to view graphics, animations, and program information in certain activities. If you encounter difficulties when the Taskbar appears on-screen, follow these steps to enable the Taskbar's "Auto hide" feature: * Click the Start button, then select Settings, then Taskbar. * In the dialog box that appears, uncheck 'Always on top' and check 'Auto hide'. * Click the Apply button, then the 'OK' button. You also have the option of relocating the Taskbar to different sides of the display screen: * Click and hold down the mouse pointer on a blank area of the Taskbar. * Drag and release the Taskbar on the side of the screen where it causes the least interference. Note: If you need to access the Taskbar or the Start menu at any time while the program is running, press CTRL+ESC. To return to the program, click on the program's display area, or press ALT+TAB until the program's icon is selected. If the program is very slow: ---------------------------- 1. Close any unnecessary applications that may be running. 2. Try reinstalling the product and select the full install of the game. Improving system performance ---------------------------- These tips are designed to improve your system's performance: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, then click Properties. 2. From the dialog box, select the Performance tab. 3. Click the File System button. 4. Select the CD-ROM tab. Set the Supplemental cache size to "Large". 5. Match the "Optimize access pattern" setting to that of your CD-ROM. (It should be set to "Quad-speed or higher".) 6. Click Apply, then OK. 7. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Screen savers: -------------- If you are running a screen saver in the background and experience video and sound problems during the program, disable the screen saver and the problem should be solved. Refer to your screen saver documentation for instructions on how to disable the screen saver. If sound problems occur: ------------------------ If you experience sound problems while running the program, contact your sound card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of your sound driver. If display problems occur: -------------------------- If you experience graphics problems while running Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm), contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of the video driver. Make sure the system is running in High Color (16-bit) mode in 640x480 resolution. To change the display settings: 1. Click the Start button, then select Settings, then Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Display icon. 3. Choose the Settings tab. 4. Select High Color (16-bit) for the color palette and 640x480 for the desktop area. 5. Click the Apply and OK buttons. (The system may need to restart.) Reinstalling Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm): ----------------------------------------- If you have deleted or uninstalled any part of the program and are having problems reinstalling, follow these steps to manually re- install Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm): 1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Select the Start button. 3. Choose Run from the Start menu. 4. At the Open box, type "d:\install". If your CD-ROM drive is a different letter than d, type that letter in place of d. 5. Click on OK and follow the prompts. VI. TECHNICAL SUPPORT ---------------------- Video drivers and system settings --------------------------------- Information about your system's video drivers can often assist our Technical Support staff in diagnosing problems that are encountered when running the program. To get information about your system's video drivers: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties. 2. Click on the Device Manager tab. 3. Double-click on Display adapters. Device Manager also displays settings for hardware devices that are not fully supported by Windows or are using device drivers that need to be updated. Contact the system vendor or manufacturer if any subkeys, such as those under "Display adapters" or "Sound, video and game control- lers", are displayed with a red X or yellow exclamation mark. (Click the plus [+] sign to see the subkey.) Calling Technical Support ------------------------- Please have the following information ready when you call: 1. The product name and version number located at the top of this ReadMe file. 2. The processor and clock speed of your computer (e.g., Pentium II 266 Mhz). 3. The brand name of the sound device installed in the computer. 4. The brand name of the video card installed in the computer. 5. The amount of free memory (memory available to run the program) that the computer has. Double-click the My Computer icon, then click the Help menu, and choose About Windows 95 or 98. From the dialog box that appears, write down the Physical Memory and Avail- able System Resources values. 6. The complete and exact error message reported by the program (if any). TIPS AND HINTS ----------------------------- If you need more help while playing Secret Agent(tm) Barbie(tm), here is a walk-through of the entire game, from beginning to end. MISSION CONTROL PLANE/VR TRAINING *Train for your various mission types - Action, Adventure and Stealth - in the VR Training Center. *To get to the VR Training Center from the control room, if Barbie(tm) is facing the map, walk her to the left into the VR Training Room. *A map will appear that allows you to pick any training type. You can replay these as much as you want, but once you start a mission, you have to complete it. *To get to a location, walk Barbie(tm) forward to the blue map and select the location you want to go to using the mouse. NEW YORK - FIRST VISIT Objective: Investigate Crime Scene *Follow the path and jump over the boxes to find Teresa(tm). She is standing over by the fountain. *After talking to Teresa(tm), walk over to the guard and use the compact to sneak past him. *Continue toward the tent but walk around the other side to the back so you can get into the tent without having to get by the next guard. *Sneak into the dressing room where you will find an invitation to the Embassy Ball in Paris PARIS - FIRST VISIT Objective: Find the Special Fabric *Find the Assistant Designer - she is upstairs. *After talking to the Assistant Designer, use the compact to sneak past the guard downstairs. *In the hallway, tumble roll under lasers to get to the outdoor maze. *Sneak by the guards and head toward the back of the garden. Use the maze to hide from them. *Find the bird bath at the back of the garden and open the secret passage by solving the puzzle. *Tumble roll under the lasers in the secret passage and find the fabric. TOKYO - FIRST VISIT Objective: Obtain Some of the Dye *Talk to Mrs. Tanaka, the Gem Shop Owner. *Follow the thief's path. He will go inside a building. *Get onto the roof using the wrist glider gadget on the building to the right of the building that the thief is in. (Look for a glowing pink hook.) *Use the spacebar to help you jump from roof to roof, then jump over the crates to get to the ledge. *Take picture of thief from the roof using the Telephoto Camera gadget. *Wait for the thief to leave the house then jump off the roof and go inside where you'll find a safe in the room upstairs. *Solve the tile puzzle to open the safe. Hint: if the puzzle is too difficult, press the small blue rescramble button on the left side of your PDA. EGYPT - FIRST VISIT Objective: Find Out About Ingredients *Look for the Cart Shop Owner, who has some information for you. He is standing next to a large, brown cart. *Follow the Mysterious Characters to the three different stores, but stay far enough behind them so they don't see you. *At the first stop, walk Barbie(tm) to the left side of the crates. Use your tumble roll to pass by the guards unseen and head for the sparkling cloud. *Use the Pink Vision glasses to look at the vase to see the symbols. *At the second stop, tumble roll by the guards so they don't see you. *Continue following the Mysterious Characters till you get to a Secret Hideout (a room with a guard). *Walk into the room with the guard and talk to him. He will give you a puzzle to solve. *You will gain entrance into the Secret Hideout through the curtain if you solve the puzzle. *Once in the room, place the Lipstick Recorder on the table to the left, then leave the room through the wooden door. *Use your Wrist Glider to get up to the roof and cross the rooftops to avoid the guards. Look for the sparkling hook in the corner of the roof. *Jump across the rooftops to get back to the Cart Shop Owner. *Remember to use the spacebar and forward arrow to do long jumps. Hold the spacebar longer to get Barbie(tm) to jump further. *Talk to the Cart Shop Owner, who tells you to talk to the Loom Shop Owner. *Talk to the Loom Shop Owner who is standing next to the Cart Shop Owner, wearing a brown robe. *Use the Pink Vision glasses to see symbols on the dress - they are the same as the Egyptian Needle in Paris! TOKYO - SECOND VISIT Objective: Learn Origin of Special Dye *Talk to Mrs. Tanaka. *Walk outside and chase the thief. *Follow him to the Pagoda. You can get to the Pagoda either by using your Wrist Glider on one of the roofs (look for the sparkling hook), or by finding an alternate path by using the metal steps and billboard and walking along the edges of the buildings. *Jump inside the Pagoda area and walk to the back door. *Solve a puzzle to enter the Pagoda. *Barbie(tm) will find a broken bottle of dye. RIO - FIRST VISIT Objective: Learn Origin of Special Dye *Before you can get to your room, you need to check in at the receptionist first. The receptionist will give you your room assignment. *The suite is the second from the left if you are facing the rooms. Go to the room where Ken(tm) will be waiting with the Perfume Tracker. *Find Dr. Javier by following the path through the green door. *Once in the greenhouse area, Dr. Javier is in one of the outside greenhouses. Walk around the circle and look in each room till you find her. *Talk to Dr. Javier then use your Perfume Tracker gadget on her. She will now be a green dot on your HUD in the upper right corner of the screen. *Follow Dr. Javier and sneak by the guards into the greenhouse facility. *Avoid the cameras, guards and lasers while following Dr. Javier through the hallways. Be sure to use your HUD! *Take a Snapshot of the Mystery Man using your Telephoto Camera. PARIS - SECOND VISIT Objective: Learn About the Fifth Ingredient's Origin *Sneak under the lasers on your left and go up the stairs. Make sure the camera doesn't catch you! Go across and down the stairs on the other side. *Go through the hallway, but make sure the guard doesn't see you. To do this, clear the first two lasers, then hide behind the small crate in the hallway. *Use the HUD to see where the guard is, so you can run by him. *Once in the garden, sneak over to the Egyptian Needle in the Embassy Gardens, but be careful not to be seen by the guards. *Solve the Egyptian Needle Puzzle and a secret area will open. *Jump across the platforms to find the basement room. *Use Pink Vision to see the puzzle clue in the painting on the wall. The painting has a picture of the Eiffel Tower on it. *Look at the pattern on the picture and follow the exact steps. *To solve the puzzle, make sure you follow the arrows on the clue and start with the correct square. NEW YORK - SECOND VISIT Objective: Learn about the Fifth Ingredient's Origin *Talk to Camille in the park and learn about a Mystery Man hanging around the fashion tent. *When you spot the Mystery Man, follow him to the wooden crates. *Use your Telephoto Camera to take a photo of the Mystery Man. MISSION CONTROL PLANE *Connect with the Secret Agent Team back at the Mission Control Plane. *Solve the tile puzzle to reveal the Mystery Man. TOKYO - THIRD VISIT Objective: Catch the Thief *Find Mrs. Tanaka in the Gem Shop. *Follow the thief to the warehouse. *In the warehouse, get by the boxes without the cameras catching you. *Walk down the stairs and avoid the lasers. *Get Barbie(tm) to the top of the stairs, and activate your Spy Puppy gadget. *Use the Spy Puppy gadget and walk the guard away from the door to the end of the room. *Switch back to Barbie(tm) by selecting the Spy Puppy Icon again. *Walk Barbie(tm) to the computer control to turn off the force field. *Turn left into the warehouse and sneak past the other guards by using the compact gadget. *Use the Robot Spy Puppy to walk under the boxes and get the backpack. *Find out about Chameleon's Master Plans. RIO - SECOND VISIT Objective: Find Chameleon's Headquarters *Find Dr. Javier in her greenhouse. *Help Dr. Javier water the plants by fixing the pipes. *Dr. Javier helps identify the location of the rare plant- the Himalayas! EGYPT - SECOND VISIT Objective: Catch Chameleon *Wander around the marketplace till you find the Shop o' Wonders Lady - there are sparkling torches outside her store. *Help the Shop o' Wonders Lady find the key to her store - the Food Shop Owner has the key. The food shop owner has a blue robe on and a fruit stand in front of her. She is located where Barbie(tm) began the level. *Return the key to the Shop O' Wonders Lady and get the Ancient Box with the fifth ingredient inside. *Puzzle: Listen to the clue that Becky(tm) gives you to solve the puzzle. *Becky(tm) discovers the last ingredient - the Gailstone - and sets a trap for Chameleon. *Barbie(tm) leads Chameleon to the last ingredient by leaving the box in a large open space. This is an area with a large archway very close to where you solve the puzzle. *Walk Barbie(tm) over by the two crates in this open area so she can lure Chameleon to the area. *When Chameleon leaves, follow her and use your Wrist Glider to get to the rooftops. CHAMELEON HEADQUARTERS CATWALK *Use the Wrist Glider to glide up to the catwalk. Make sure you time it right so you don't get caught by the guard at the top. *Turn to the left and walk to the power grid. *Solve the Puzzle to get through the force field and run towards the door to the next room. CHAMELEON HEADQUARTERS LAB Objective: Obtain Chameleon Glasses *Round up the guards using the Spy Puppy and lead them into the room in the center. There is a sparkling cloud to show you where to go. *Once they are all there, click on the Puppy icon again to put your puppy away and reactivate Barbie(tm). *Go through the door at the back of the room and continue through the tunnels and paths, avoiding the lasers and cameras. Be sure to use the HUD to help you get by! MAIN LAB *Use your Pink Vision on the safe on the far wall, to see the secret code to unlock the safe and obtain the special Chameleon glasses. *Follow Chameleon through the tunnels. TOP OF THE HQ *Jump onto the moving platforms to catch her while avoiding the guards. *When you get to the top of the volcano, try cutting through the center to catch Camille and save the day!
