GENERAL TECHNICAL ISSUES WARNING: Please make sure that Secret Service: In Harm's Way CD is inserted in your CD-ROM drive before launching the game. You can play the Secret Service: In Harm's Way game only if the Secret Service: In Harm's Way CD is in drive. WARNING: On Windows95 OSR2 make sure you have installed the Winsock2 update from Microsoft web page on http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuadmintools/s_wunetworkingtools/w95sockets2/ Winsock2 is trademark of Microsoft Corporation. DRIVER ISSUES Make sure you've installed DirectX 8.0a or later on your computer. The latest version of DirectX (DX80a as of 10/15/2001) is included on the Secret Service: In Harm's Way CD in the 'DirectX8' folder. Make sure you have installed the most recent drivers for all your hardware before playing Secret Service: In Harm's Way. SOUND PROBLEMS Check SOUND OPTIONS in OPTIONS MENU. VIEW AVI FILM SEQUENCES The Game Intro has short movie sequences. If you are having trouble playing them (no sound or no image) please make sure you have Windows Media Player ver 6.4 or above installed on your computer. IV. 3D HARDWARE ISSUES Make sure that you have the DirectX8.0a installed on your computer. You can download DirectX8.0a from: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ Make sure that you have the latest chipset driver for your video board. You can download the latest driver from the chipset manufacturer web site: http://www.3dfx.com/ http://www.3dlabs.com/ http://www.ati.com/ http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/ http://www.matrox.com/ http://www.nvidia.com/ http://www.powervr.com/ http://www.s3.com/ Low frame rate problem: - If the frame rate is low when shooting or using the flash light uncheck dynamic lights from "Menu On -> Options -> Settings -> Dynamical Lights". - Set the Character L.O.D. on "Very Low" from "Menu On -> Options -> Settings -> Character L.O.D.". This will decrease the polygon count on characters and will save CPU and Video board processing time. - Uncheck Detailed Sky from "Menu On -> Options -> Settings -> Detailed Sky". This will save CPU/Video board processing time. - Check triple buffered from "Menu On -> Options -> Video -> Triple Buffered". Checking triple buffered will force the game to use less video memory for the textures. Also this will show result only on older video boards that are always synchronized with the video refresh. - Uncheck Detail Texture from "Menu On -> Options -> Settings -> Detail Textures" This will save video card processing time. We recommand to check this only with the video cards from "Category III - Video Boards for the Best Performance" - Uncheck Level lightmap from "Menu On -> Options -> Settings -> Level lightmap" This will save video card processing time and will avoid on some older video board to draw the entire scene twice. Overclocking issue: Overclocking video card at a clock and / or bus speed that is beyond the manufacturer specifications can cause Secret Service to frequently freeze or crash. We recommend not to use CPU or video board overclocking. Hardware Transforming & Lighting: Secret Service use Hardware Transforming & Lighting (T&L) technique. T&L can seriously enhance the game performances. Before changing the video board make sure that you have set the video display on default settings. "Menu On -> Options -> Video -> Default Settings" ALT-TAB issue: The Secret Service game support Alt-Tab switching. We recommended not to abuse it though. Intro Movies: If you experience long black screens when launching the game instead of the intro movies run the game with "-nointro" parameter. Assuming that the installation folder is "c:\Program Files\Activision Value\Secret Service" launch the game with "c:\Program Files\Activision Value\Secret Service\Bin\Game.exe -nointro". ------------------------------------------------------------------ Category I - Video Boards for Acceptable Performance ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. 3DFX Voodoo2 98/Me Driver Version: 4.11.01.1151 (English) Suggestion: Disable dynamical lights & detail textures 2. 3DFX Voodoo Banshee 98/Me Driver Version: 4.11.01.1222 (English) Suggestion: Disable detail textures 3.
