The game features 34 single player levels, as well as 6 training levels, a movie-viewer and several other image viewer sections. The storyline of the game pits Spider-Man against his arch nemesis Doctor Octopus in a battle to save the citizens of New York. Spidey encounters a slew of thugs, lizard men and other enemies including Scorpion, Rhino, Venom, Mysterio and Carnage. Spider-Man can shoot webs, crawl on walls, swing from building to building and perform several specialized fighting moves in order to defeat his enemies and solve the many puzzles he will encounter. The game caters to players of all skill levels and features a special Kid's Mode for the younger players. II Installation Instructions INSTALLING Spider-Man - To Install Spider-Man, insert the game CD into your CD-ROM drive. - If Autoplay is enabled, the Installer splash screen should appear. - When the Installer splash screen appears, click on the Install button. - Uninstall Spider-Man Shortcut: If you wish to remove Spider-Man from your hard drive, you should always use the Shortcut from the Start Menu. The Uninstall Spider-Man option will remove all game files except your saved games, screen shots and personal settings. Note: You can return to the splash screen any time without affecting your installed game. AUTOPLAY If the Spider-Man splash screen does not appear, try performing the following steps: - Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, or right-click on the icon and choose the Open option. - Select the Refresh option located in the View Pull-down Menu. - Double-click on the Spider-Man CD icon in the window or right-click on the icon and choose the Autoplay option. - After the Spider-Man splash screen appears, click on the Install button. If the Autoplay feature does not function, please check the following: - Make sure the CD is clean and properly placed in the CD-ROM drive. - Your CD-ROM driver may not be optimized for use with Windows(R) 95/98. To verify this, perform the following steps: - Open the Windows(R) 95/98 Control Panel folder and double-click on the System icon. - Click on the Performance tab. If any of your hardware drivers are not fully optimized for use with Windows(R) 95/98, they will be listed here with an explanation of the exact problem and suggestions on how to fix it. Windows(R) 95/98 may not be setup to Autoplay CD's. To check, perform the following steps: - Open the Windows(R) 95/98 Control Panel folder and double-click on the System icon. - Click on the Device Manager tab. Click on the Plus sign next to CD-ROM, select your CD-ROM and choose Properties. - Click on the Settings tab. Insert a checkmark in the box to the left of the Auto Insert Notification and select OK. For Windows 2000 3-D support, please refer to your hardware manufacture for 100% DirectX 8.0 compliant drivers. IV QUICK QUESTIONS Q: How do I choose which video card Spider-Man uses? A: If you have more than one video card in your system you can choose between them by going to the Spider-Man folder on your Windows Start Menu and selecting Display Adapter Selector. Select the videocard that you want the to use and hit save. Q: How do I use the in-game menus? A: You can navigate the in-game menus either using your mouse or by using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Press Enter to select an option, Esc to cancel and the Right/Left arrows to select from different options. Q: I tried to register the game and received a Windows error stating that a required dll was missing? A: Activision's registration program requires up-to-date system software to work correctly. On very early versions of W95 certain system files are not present and prevent the registration utility from working correctly. We apologize for this inconvenience. Q: How do I take Screenshots? A: Pressing the F9 key during the game or in the main menu will take a screenshot. Screenshots are saved to the directory where Spider-Man is installed (c:\program files\Activision\Spider-Man\ by default) Q: How can I view the online manuals? A: First install the game and then go to the Spider-Man folder on your Windows Start Menu. There will be a folder there named Game Manuals. Select which manual you would like to read from the different languange versions available. To read the manual you will need to have Adobe Acrobat(R) installed on you computer. To install this program click on the extras button from the main menu of the Spider-Man splash screen and select the Install Acrobat(R) link.
