In order to configure your computer to run this program, you may need to refer to your Microsoft Windows user's guide for additional information on how to perform some of the steps described in this reference. Stay Tooned! has been tested and is supported on Windows Version 3.1x, Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, and Windows 95. In order to run this program properly on a Windows based computer, you must do the following: Windows 3.1 Notes: Create a Permanent swap file of at least 8MB (8192 KB) in your Virtual Memory settings. We suggest that you do not create a swap file greater than 20000 KB, as this can reduce the efficiency of Windows. [Refer to your Windows guide on Changing Swap-File Settings, by using the Control Panel]. Windows 95 normally controls your virtual memory usage and configuration. Make sure virtual memory is turned on and let Windows 95 control it. Turn OFF any virus scanning programs and screen savers that might be running. Turn OFF ALL applications except for the 'Program Manager' (if you are running an alternate desktop, leave only your desktop program running). NOTE: Some desktops may not be compatible. We recommend using Program Manager. (Win 3.1 & DOS 6.x) Exit Windows and at C:\>, type MSD. Under 'Video' section, there may be a listing of the manufacturer of the video card or video chip installed on your computer. WARNING: Please note the brand of video driver that you are using. You may need to switch between alternate drivers. Video drivers are written for the brand of video card you are currently using, and we advise that you do not change brands of video drivers without first consulting the maker of your video card. Set screen resolution to 640x480 or 800x600. (higher or lower resolutions will cause the loss of "hot spots" and other screen information) If you have 8MB of RAM, you should use 640x480 to conserve memory. [Refer to your Windows guide on Running the Setup Program or Setting Up Windows] Set the number of colors to be displayed to 256. Some color cards (especially Cirrus Logic or Trident video cards) may require colors to be set at 65,536; 65,535; 64K; or 65K, depending on vendor. [Refer to your Windows guide on Running the Setup Program or Setting Up Windows] If you still encounter a problem, try changing your video configuration to Microsoft's(TM) generic SVGA 640x480 256 color mode. If you use a Compaq machine, we suggest that the Compaq wallpaper be turned off or set to NONE. [Refer to your Windows guide for Desktop (Wallpaper) Option or Control Panel] In Windows 95 we have encountered a problem with Aptiva machines in 256 color mode. If you cannot run the program in 256 colors on your Aptiva, select a higher color setting and the program will run successfully. We have encountered a problem with video cards using the S-3 chip. If you have such a card you may experience graphic disturbance. TROUBLE SHOOTING Stay Tooned! (For Windows): (See Installation Information for Windows Systems) PROBLEM: If you are running this program on a 486/SX computer (rather than a 486/DX), you may receive an error message after winning the TOON BOY game. This is because the 486/SX does not have a math coprocessor which is necessary for running that particular game. SOLUTION: After you win the game and the error message appears, restart your computer with cntrl-alt-delete. Then you will be ready to play again. But try to avoid winning TOON BOY. PROBLEM: Some animations and songs play back choppy (hesitation, skips in the audio, loss of audio, skips in the animation). SOLUTION: Check that the virtual memory in the 386 Enhanced Control Panel is set to 'Permanent' and is at least 8MB. Check that you are using a double-speed CD-ROM drive. Also, check that you are using the correct resolution and number of colors. PROBLEM: You receive an "script handler error" message concerning "DCIMAN.DLL" when starting up the program. SOLUTION: Try installing QuickTime 2.1 available on this CD. To install Quicktime choose "RUN" from the Start menu (on Windows 95) or from the "File" menu in your Program Manager on Windows 3.xx. Enter the letter for the CD-drive followed by ":\QTWFILES\QT16INST.EXE" on Windows 3.xx. (Use ":\QTWFILES\QT32INST.EXE" on Windows 95). Click OK. The QuickTime for Windows 2.1 installer will ask you what type of installation you wish. Click the button labeled "Local". Follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation. PROBLEM: You get an error message upon launch, and you have Trident or Cirrus Logic video drivers. SOLUTION: Change colors from 256 to Hi Color (16 bit).
