When it was over, the I.S.T. Rident was left adrift in the depths of space. The crew and passengers were gone, mysteriously spirited away by two unidentified battleships, known in the quadrant, by those few who have seen them, as "dog ships." The moment of chaos having passed in a breath, a solitary survivor remains on board the Rident. You remain. From there, you find yourself plunged headlong into the adventure. As you push forward your struggle to track down the Rident's missing crew, a task that sweeps you across the galaxy from one exotic point to another, a nagging question beckons in the back of your head: Why were you the only survivor? Your task is to unravel the mystery. You have one companion: the SYM. In an age where technology and biology are on the verge of blending seamlessly, the up-and-coming advanced technology corporation SYNSYM has brought thousands of people an implant to improve life. The SYN-FACTOR, a complete "synthetic symbiont." In a neat and completely painless process, it is surgically added to the consumer's mind. It is the ultimate technology, reducing even the most difficult task to a negligible chore. Two minds, after all, are better than one. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Gameplay Notes Keys: Ctrl-L - Load Game Ctrl-S - Save Game Ctrl-Q - Quit Navigation: A little arrow icon (below the view box) will light up whenever the mouse cursor is over an area that your character can move to. To look around use the left and right arrow icons. The word LINK will appear when there is an object that your symbiont can link with, and ITEM will appear to indicate an object that your character can take. Interface: ITEMS - This mode displays the items that are currently in your inventory. From here you can use or examine an object you have picked up. STATUS - Runs a diagnostic routine on your symbiont. This screen also contains general information on your symbiont and character. DATABASE - The on-line database provides information on numerous topics you may encounter during your adventure. You should constantly try looking up information as there are many important clues hidden in your symbiont's memory store. SYS - From here you can Load/Save a game, access information on your computer, adjust volume, adjust turning animation speed, toggle segue animations, and exit the game. Tips: As you progress through the game your symbiont will have many things to say about your current situation and things you may encounter. Pay attention to its comments as it may mention a very important piece of information required to get past a certain challenge. Context sensitive hints are available in the game by typing HINT at the database prompt. Note that these hints are very explicit, so use only as a last resort. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Performance Notes If performance seems less than optimal, exit all running applications before launching Symbiocom. Sometimes programs in the background can conflict with Symbiocom. If you have a slower computer/CD-ROM drive, or experience low memory conditions, you may turn off the majority of the segue animations from the SYS screen. This will drastically speed-up gameplay. Make sure you are using the very latest drivers for your video card. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 7.
