TEMUJIN SouthPeak Interactive would like to thank you for your purchase of Temujin. We have worked very hard to create a game we feel will allow you many hours of gameplay. Temujin is the first of what we feel will be a long list of quality multimedia titles, others are already in the works. Obtaining optimal performance relies heavily on the use of current drivers from your respective audio and video manufacturers. If you need more information on obtaining drivers or verifying which drivers you have installed on your system please contact your hardware manufacturer's web site or their Tech Support. Please make sure you meet the system requirements as outlined below: Pentium 90 MHz processor (120MHz or above strongly recommended) Windows 95 or Windows NT (Windows NT users need Service Pack 2 or later) 16 MB RAM 30 MB of Temporary Space on C:\Drive Double Speed CD-ROM Drive (Quad speed recommended) 16 Bit Windows Compatible Sound Card SVGA Graphics for 640x480 High Color (16 bit) 2 MB VRAM strongly recommended Microsoft Compatible Mouse II. INSTALLATION -------------------------- There's no installation needed, the CD will autorun once inserted. III. GENERAL GAME ISSUES -------------------------- When you press the Play button Temujin sets your display to 16-bit color and attempts to use DirectX (Temujin also restores your display to its previous settings when done). Some combinations of video hardware, display driver software and DirectX versions may make it impossible for Temujin to set the display to 16-bit color; you may need to use the display properties dialog (from the Windows control panel) to do this yourself. We know that if your display is set for 16 colors (not 16-BIT High-color) Temujin often has difficulties and produces several error dialogs before giving up, so you may need to set your display properties to at least 256 colors before inserting the Temujin disc. Temujin has a hidden option to run in a window rather than full screen. To use this option, first make sure your display properties are set for 16-bit color (High-color or 32000 or 64000 colors), then press "w" at the dialog where you only seem to have Play and Cancel choices. Temujin cannot change the number of colors for you when you run the game in a window, so it is important to set it before you start the game; Temujin may not work correctly (and may crash) in other color modes. Temujin is designed to run in full screen (the play button) and the window mode is not guaranteed to work. It will probably let you read your mail while you play the game. There may be occasions in which you reach a point in the game where you cannot move in any direction. One workaround for this may be to hit ESC once or a couple of times. Another option you may have is hitting ALT-F4, which will exit the game. If you get audio during the opening dramatics but no audio when clicking on the paintings in the Great Hall, use the DXTEST program in the setup directory to disable Temujin's use of DirectSound (but leave DirectDraw enabled). IV. TECHNICAL ISSUES -------------------------- Yamaha OPL-3: Owners of the Yamaha OPL-3 will need to go to Control Panel-> Multimedia-> MIDI and change Single Instrument from MIDI for Yamaha OPL-3SA Softsynth to Yamaha OPL-3SA FM Synthesizer. ESS1888: Microsoft's DirectX currently doesn't support the ESS1888 audio chipsets. If your sound card has this chipset and you encounter problems please contact your hardware manufacturer. Compaq users may log onto Compaq's web site for ESS1888 updates which support DirectX. If you encounter a burst of static while clicking on an object please contact your hardware manufacturer for updated drivers. This may appear in earlier versions of Ensoniq Soundscape and various Aztech sound cards. These manufacturers have updates on their web sites. Some sound cards may not allow you to adjust the MIDI settings from within Temujin, if this occurs please use windows volume control to adjust the MIDI. The opening dramatics can be run in less than full-screen mode if your computer has trouble with them; press page-down to shrink them. This can help if the audio has gasps and pauses. If you have a fast machine you may want to set the Audio Quality to HIGH from the Menu->Options. Slower, non-MMX machines should probably leave it LOW for best results. You may occasionally hear part or all of a sound effect repeat itself or "loop". Should this occur more than a few times, please visit our web site or contact us as described below. V.
