Additional Notes _________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Installing game using Autorun a) The simplest method of installing The F.A. Premier League Stars The simplest method of installing The F.A. Premier League Stars is to use the "Autorun" feature in Windows 95. Insert the The F.A. Premier League Stars CD into your CD-ROM drive. After you select the language you wish to install, the game will bring you to the The F.A. Premier League Stars Install Screen. b) Minimum Hard drive space required It is important to note that you must have a minimum of 20 MB hard drive space free to run the game. (additional space is required for Save games and DirectX 6.0 installation.) c) If your "Autorun" feature is disabled If for some reason your "Autorun" feature is disabled (It may have been disabled by another program, or the "Auto insert notification" may be disabled on your CD), you can install the program by running AUTORUN.EXE directly from the root directory of the CD. 2. New options on Install screen after install After you've successfully installed the game in Windows 95, you may notice that some of the buttons that were visible on the Install screen (the "Install" button, for example) are no longer visible, while others (the "Play" button) are now available. This simply reflects the new options that are available. Press the "Re-Install" button if you would like to re-install the game (you may have accidentally deleted some files, or possibly changed your mind about installing the play-by-play files). It will prompt you to uninstall the game and then proceed with re-installing it. See section 4 for details on un-installing. 3. Direct X a. Installing DirectX directly from CD (if you skipped it during game install) The F.A. Premier League Stars comes with DirectX 6.0 and will prompt you to install it during installation. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the The F.A. Premier League Stars CD is in the CD-ROM drive change to the following folder on your CD-ROM drive: "\Directx6\DirectX" and double-click on DXSETUP.EXE b. DirectX 6.0 and supported hardware We recommend that The F.A. Premier League Stars be run with DirectX compatible sound boards and video cards. While there is a good chance that The F.A. Premier League Stars will run with non-DirectX compatible hardware, you may find that: i) Sound quality suffers ii) The game runs slightly slower. iii) The game does not run at all. If your soundboard or video card do not support DirectX, please contact your vendor. 4. Uninstalling The F.A. Premier League Stars The simplest method of uninstalling The F.A. Premier League Stars is to use the Uninstall button on The F.A. Premier League Stars Install screen. (this is the Autorun screen that pops up when you insert the The F.A. Premier League Stars CD into the CD-ROM drive) You may also use the Uninstall shortcut in the Start Menu. This can be found with the game icon on the Start Menu. (usually "Start Menu/Programs/EA Sports/The F.A. Premier League Stars ) Windows 95 also has an "Add/Remove Programs" Icon in the Control Panel that you can use to uninstall the game. 5. Problems in The F.A. Premier League Stars after extended lengths of multiplayer gaming If you are experiencing problems with The F.A. Premier League Stars after extended lengths of multiplayer gaming, Microsoft has a patch that may fix the problem. The patch is available at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/info/krnlupd.htm If you are experiencing any other problems with network play, please contact your network administrator. 6. Memory requirements a. Memory requirements in Windows 95 The Windows 95 version of The F.A. Premier League Stars requires a minimum of 16MB of RAM to run. If there is more memory available, you should experience better game performance in all areas. b. Running the game under stressful Windows 95 conditions At Electronic Arts we strive to bring you the best in graphics, audio and gameplay. We are always pushing the envelope of computer performance. While we have made every effort to ensure that The F.A. Premier League Stars multi-tasks with all Windows 95 applications, we recommend that you shut down other applications and run The F.A. Premier League Stars by itself when possible. 7. Improving game speed (frame-rates, etc.) If you experience slow down ingame turn down the detail levels in the 3d set-up program. This can be achieved by selecting a lower texture detail and turning lightmaps off. This will help the game speed especially if your card has 4mb or less). 8. Network Running the game on an IPX network with routers In order for the game to function across a router, IPX networks with routers must be configured to route SAP. Also, the machine operating as the game server must not be running any other software which is an SAP service (TSRs under DOS, some file sharing, print sharing, or other servers under Windows 95). Ensure the same frametype is set within network settings for the IPX protocol, this should be '802.2' or 'Auto' under Windows 95. Once again, we recommend that you contact your network administrator if you are experiencing problems. 9. Modem a) Establish Connection and Wait for call ESC can always abort the connection attempt. The game will also time-out after 5 minutes. b) Call Waiting We recommend that call waiting be disabled as we have experience some problems with it during modem games. Specifically, call waiting can disrupt modem games already in progress. 10. Keyboard, joystick and mouse functionality You may use either the mouse, joypad or keyboard to navigate the game interface. Click on buttons and icons to select modes and options. The keyboard is also available to enter information or send chat messages when playing other users via modem or network. We highly recommend the use of a good 10-button gamepad for ingame play. To bring up the ingame pause menus you may push ESC, or the START button on the controller. Then navigate using the controller, mouse or keyboard. 11. Additional notes Some cards allow you to automatically generate mipmaps from their properties dialogue - this may cause graphical glitches (NVIDIA) or slowdown(3DFX), if either of these are a problem then turn off automipmapping. (Contact your manufacturer for details.) Some drivers have bugs that can cause corrupt graphics in game - if this occurs then download the latest drivers. Lightmaps (Stadium shadows) can corrupt on RIVA128 chipsets due to a driver error - if this is a problem then disable lightmaps in the 3D set-up program Some graphic corruption occurs, when running the game in software, on VOODOO3, and SAVAGE3D chipsets. It is recommended that you run the game in hardware on these cards.
