INFINITY CITY Windows Release Notes April 8, 1996 This document contains information on running the "SETUP" program and troubleshooting "Infinity City" on the PC/Windows platform. ======================= RUNNING SETUP ======================= Windows 3.1 ----------------------------------- For instructions on how to set up a program group and icons in Windows 3.1, look in the "Infinity City" documentation booklet under "Setting Up Infinity City" on page 3. The SETUP.EXE program will create a "Headbone" program group (if it doesn't already exist), and within that group it will add several icons. Along with an icon for "Infinity City", SETUP will install icons for "Elroy Hits The Pavement Demo", and the "Sampler". SETUP does not install any files onto your hard disk. Although the icons will always be visible in Windows, you will only be able to run items from the "Headbone" program group when the appropriate CD is in your CD-ROM drive. While attempting to run SETUP you may get a message that says, "command not received or understood." This means that you already have the maximum number of program groups allowed by Windows. Please delete one program group and run setup again. The "Headbone" group should now be present. If you do not wish to run SETUP, you can play "Infinity City" or the demos directly from the File Manager. To do so, open the Windows File Manager. Double-click the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive. Find and select the executable file for the program you want to run (i.e. "INFINITY.EXE", "PAVEDEMO.EXE", "SAMPLER.EXE"). Run the program by double-clicking on it or by selecting "run" from the File menu. Windows 95 ----------------------------------- Using SETUP.EXE with Windows 95 creates an entry called "Headbone" in your "Start" menu (if it doesn't already exist) and adds shortcuts for "Infinity City", "Elroy Hits The Pavement Demo", and the "Sampler". It does not install any files on your hard disk. Although the "Headbone" entry and associated program icons will always be visible in Windows 95, you will only be able to run the items in "Headbone" when the appropriate CD is in your CD-ROM drive. To run SETUP, click on the "Setup" button in the autoplay window (see "Windows 95 Auto Play" below). Alternatively, SETUP can be run by double-clicking on the "SETUP.EXE" icon located on the CD-ROM drive contained within "My Computer". Consult your Windows 95 manual for more information about running an application. If you do not wish to run SETUP, you can play "Infinity City" or the demos directly from "My Computer". To do so, open "My Computer" which should be located on your desktop. Double-click the icon for your CD-ROM drive. Run a program by double-clicking on its icon (i.e. "INFINITY.EXE", "PAVEDEMO.EXE", "SAMPLER.EXE"). Consult your Windows 95 manual for more information about running an application. ======================= WINDOWS 95 AUTO PLAY ======================= The Windows 95 AutoPlay feature will display a dialog box automatically when the CD is inserted into the drive; however, this may take a few moments. While it's loading it will appear as if nothing is happening except that your CD drive access light will blink intermittantly. When the dialog box appears, you will have the following options: * PLAY - play "Infinity City" * ELROY PAVEMENT DEMO - play the demo for "Elroy Hits The Pavement" * SAMPLER - play the demo for a sample of all our products * SETUP - run the setup program to create icons and a program group * QUIT - close this dialog box without launching any programs If you attempt to run other programs or access the desktop while AutoPlay is starting up, the dialog box may be hidden by windows on your desktop. To suppress AutoPlay, hold down the SHIFT key when inserting the CD. ======================= TROUBLESHOOTING WINDOWS ======================= Most problems are related to device drivers for video boards, sound boards, or CD-ROM drives. Problems caused by incompatible device drivers may include General Protection Faults or "illegal operation" error messages, slow or erratic performance, sound distortion, or lack of sound. If you experience these or any other technical difficulties, check to make sure that you are using the latest driver for your video or sound adapter. Contact the manufacturer of your computer, video adapter, or sound adapter for assistance in determining if you have the latest version of the driver. Many driver updates can be downloaded from the internet or bulletin boards. Please disable all shell programs (Norton Desktop, Kid Desk, Navigator) before running Infinity City. Shell programs may cause problems with the setup as well as with the game itself. Turn off all other programs, including screen savers, virus detection software, etc., before running the game. A more detailed troubleshooting guide is packaged with "Infinity City".
