Driver Information and Known Issues (Related to Drivers) -------------------------------------------------------------- It is recommended that you have the latest video driver versions on your PC for optimal performance. - If you own NVIDIA brand (GeForce - TNT2) or ATI brand video cards, please visit www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com respectively to download the latest drivers for your video card. - Due to the proprietary nature of laptop chipsets and drivers, the availability and functionality of 3D hardware accelerated rendering will vary. If you experience issues running in 3D accelerated mode, check with your laptop manufacturer for an updated driver. If the problem persists, we recommend running the game in software render mode. - Note that many of the older TNT/TNT2 Video cards require the original supported driver releases. - Water discolorations and texture problems will be resolved by updating your video card drivers. -------------------------------- 05. Frequently Asked Questions -------------------------------- a. How do I start to play the game? (COURSES CD, Graphics Hardware Test) - Be sure to have the COURSES CD in your drive upon launching the game. - On your initial launch of the game, the Graphics Hardware Test will be run to best optimize the game's settings for performance. It is highly recommended that you leave your video settings set to Automatic Settings for optimal game performance. While you have the ability to manually configure the video settings, increasing the graphics quality setting past the automatic defaults will have an adverse effect on game performance. Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004 also dynamically changes game settings to optimize performance. If you turn Automatic Settings off, the game will not do dynamic adjustments during game to keep your frame rate steady. b. How can I install more courses? - If you selected a TYPICAL Install, Pebble Beach, TPC at Sawgrass, TPC at Avenel, Bethpage Black, Coeur d'Alene, Kapalua - Plantation Course, Pinehurst No.2, and The Old Course at St Andrews will be the only courses installed. Be sure to have the Courses CD in your drive when attempting to play any of the other 10 courses that were not installed. - To install courses that are not currently installed, open the Course Utilities application. Follow the steps below: 1. Be sure to have the COURSES CD in the drive. 2. Press the Install button. 3. In the newly opened dialog box, change the Source location to your CD-ROM drive. 4. You will receive a notification once the course is successfully installed. *Note: You can specify the folder where you would like to install the new course by changing the folders in the Destination column on the right side of the screen. *Note: You can also install user made courses in a similar manner. EA does not provide technical support for user made courses. c. Can I play digital audio or CD audio music? - If you would like to listen to digital audio or CD music while playing the game, you must have done a COMPLETE installation. - If you have done a COMPLETE installation, you can play digital audio music by launching your digital music player before launching the game, or you can ALT-TAB back to the desktop from the game and launch the digital music player. - You can turn off the front-end music and modify the in-game sound volume by going to the sound options menu. - Choose Options from the Main Menu. Click on the Sound Tab and set the volume sliders to your liking. - You can only play CD Music if your system has 2 CD-ROM drives or if you have done a COMPLETE installation. How do I set up my teams in the team games? - The order in which you add golfers to the game will determine the teams. - For example if the game type is Four Ball Match (a four player team game) the first two selected golfers will be team 1 and the last two golfers will be team 2. f. Why don't I get dynamic cameras or high-resolution graphics in software rendering or 3D Hardware Fixed? - Full screen cameras and high-resolution graphics require a supported 3D hardware accelerated video card. Please see Section 3 above for supported 3D Hardware video cards. g. Is there a difference in using an optical mouse rather than a regular ball mouse? - Not really. If you are using an optical mouse, it is recommended to use a 2nd generation optical mouse or newer. First generation optical mice may exhibit anomalous behavior on very fast mouse swings. h. Is there a limit to the number of Career Mode characters I create? - Yes, some performance issues can occur if you create over 50 unique Career Mode Characters. It is recommended that you delete some older characters if you start to reach the threshold. i. How do I install the Library Creator? - In order to install the Library Creator for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004, insert the MEDIA Disc into your CD-ROM drive. Use the Windows Explorer to browse to the (CD-ROM Letter):\LC directory and run the LC2004.exe file. Once this is done simply follow the prompts to install the Library Creator. j. Why does the AI always tee of first during early events in Career Mode? - During your Career you will advance difficulty levels. Early on when you are an Amateur or Pro, you'll be teeing off from the forward tees. Occasionally you will be matched up against an opponent that is from an advanced level and when this happens they will hit from the Tour tees, which are further back. Therefore they get honors on the tee. ------------------- 06. Known Issues ------------------- a. Game Issues - If you own a GeForce video card and are experiencing discolorations and flashing issues in the water reflection, download and install the latest video drivers for your video card. Upgrading your drivers will also provide you with a significant performance increase. - Be careful when using anti-aliasing effects for your specific video card. Some video cards will encounter serious performance issues with these settings turned on. - This product does not support Online play in Software Rendering mode. A supported 3D Hardware accelerated card is required. - Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004 does not support custom golfer names of more than 17 characters. - In the skills events (Putting Contest, Chipping Contest), if you hole out you aren't allowed to take your next 2 shots. If any one of your opponents hole out, you will get a tie and will both get the victory. - If you are in the LAN Lobby and choose Help, you will have to exit to the Main Menu after leaving help to return to the LAN lobby. - In Software Rendering, sometimes the buttons will remain orange following selection. - Dynamic cameras and camera controls are unavailable in Software Rendering Mode. - Changing to 32-bit color will remove banding in the skies at a cost of mild performance. - If your PC will run in 3D Hardware mode and you choose to run in Software Rendering mode, then return to 3D Hardware mode, you will have to reset your camera options. - Don't swing too fast when using TrueSwing(tm), some mice can't handle it. - Certain older sound cards and embedded audio systems may experience skipping or looping audio. This problem may be fixed by turning down hardware acceleration from the Control Panel. - If the game defaults your system to fixed cameras, switching to auto cameras or flying the cameras around manually will cause low frame rate. b. Windows XP Issues (Administrator Notice) - Upon an administrator installation, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004 sets all game file and folder permissions for Limited Users to full control as a default; this pertains to all Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004 file and folder permissions only. After doing this, you will need to 'regenerate' any black thumbnails. To do this: 1) Double click on any black thumbnail. 2) Change one of the textures or select 'Reset All' 3) Close the dialog and the thumbnail will automatically regenerate ----------------------------------- 07. Expert Computer User Features ----------------------------------- Electronic Arts does not provide customer or technical support for the features described in this section. a. Customizing Portraits - For advanced users only. In order to utilize this feature you need to find a suitable picture in bitmap format (.bmp) that measures 128 x 128 pixels. The picture you select must then be converted to a suitable format using the dxtex.exe application. 1. Assuming a default installation location, the dxtex.exe program will be located in the "C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004\Bin" folder. 2. Run the dxtex.exe and from the 'File' menu, select 'Open' and select your picture file. Now from the 'File' menu, select 'Save As' and save the file to the "C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2004\Data\Players" Folder. 3. Save the file as the same name as the golfer you have created or want to create. 4. The file will be saved as a .dds type file that is recognizable by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 and the picture file should now appear as a player portrait option in the game.
