III. Troubleshooting Q: How do I share my custom parks with other skaters? A: First, save your park in the park editor with any name you choose. Second, locate the C:/Program Files/Activsion/THPS3/Data/Settings/Parks folder (note: this is for a default installation). In that folder you will see a file that bears the same name as the park you saved. For example, if you saved a custom park as “Park” it will be named Park.prk. Once you have found that file you can exchange it via the Internet with other people. Once they have it, you can play them online in that park. Q: Can I play Internet games if I am behind a firewall? A: Players that are behind firewalls will encounter trouble when trying to play through the Internet. You cannot host a game if you are behind a firewall on the Internet. Q: Does THPS 3 support dual monitor setups? A: No, THPS 3 does not support dual monitors. Users may experience problems when trying to run the game this way. Q: How do I know if there are any updates/patches available for THPS 3? A: There is a link in the THPS 3 Configuration Utility. Q: When saving a game I get a “Save Failed” message. What does this mean? A: This means that you are out of hard drive space. Q: Why can’t I use certain keys on my keyboard when naming characters, saving parks, etc…? A: Some keyboard commands are not recognized by the game at this time. Since it is a “port” of a console title, only a certain amount of characters are available. Q: Can I play Internet games if I am behind a firewall or router? A: Ports 5150-5151 and 6500 are required open for behind firewall gameplay. Because players that are behind firewalls or routers may encounter connection problems when trying to host or join THPS3 games through the Internet, Activision does not support these devices. For technical support on this devices please contact your firewall or router maker. Q: Can I use punctuation or special symbols on my game handle? A: Punctuation and special symbols are not recognized by the game at this time, thus you will not be able to host or join an Internet game if the name you choose contains any of these characters. For best results just use letters associated with the normal 26-character alphabet. Q: Why does my computer randomly restart after launching Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3? I have a Radeon video card and a VIA Motherboard A: Please contact the motherboard manufacturer to upgrade to VIA's latest 4in1 driver. As of 3/21/02, the latest version is v.4.38. Q: Is there a Replay feature in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3? A: The Replay feature in not available in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3 for the PC. Q: I have a RAGE 128 and the shadows look weird, is this a problem with my card? A: No, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3 does not support shadows with these card. Please go to the THPS3setup.exe and turn the shadows off. Q: I have a KYRO1 or 2 and the shadows look weird, is this a problem with my card? A: No, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3 does not support shadows with these card. Please go to the THPS3setup.exe and turn the shadows off. Q: I have a dialup modem and when I host games, clients regularly drop out. Is my modem not working properly? A: Due to their low bandwidth, Modems are only recommended for up to 4 players games. Please adjust your multiplayer options accordingly. Q: I have a broadband connection, but I am experiencing major lag spikes in 8 player Internet games on smaller maps. Is something wrong? A: Some Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 3 maps are too small to suit more than 4-6 players. Play the bigger maps for more than 4-6 players. Q: Why won't the game run with my ___ type of video card? A: THPS3 PC was designed to run using DirectX 8.1. This means that cards that do not have a DirectX 8.1 driver (i.e. 3DFX and Intel based cards) are not supported. We are investigating some workarounds for users of these cards, but at this time we can not guarantee future support. Q: I have a DX 8.1 card, but the graphics are choppy. A: If you own a card that IS supported, please make sure that you have the latest drivers installed. Also, make sure that anti-aliasing is turned off in your display settings. If you are using a Kyro based video card and are experiencing problems some people have found success using the latest PowerVR drivers. Q: I can't connect to a multiplayer game. I have a PPOE internet connection. A: We are aware of this high priority issue, but have not narrowed down the problem yet. Q: My controller doesn't work after I choose it in the options menu. A: Make sure that you are going into "Options" and changing your controls from keyboard to joystick. Also, if your joystick has a button to switch to analog, make sure you try both settings to see which works best. Some of the joysticks that we've tested use an analog configuration for the D-pad, so try various setting to see what works best for you. Q: My screen goes black after starting the game. A: Make sure you are running the correct drivers for your monitor. The default monitor drivers provided by Windows may not correctly report refresh rates to DirectX. You can check your monitor manufacture’s website for the current drivers. You can also run the setup utility and check the "60Hz Refresh" box to play using the default monitor refresh rate. Q: I can't get the game to recognize my gamepad. What should I do? A: Make sure you've installed the drivers for your gamepad. If the gamepad works correctly in Windows, then chances are a profile isn't set up for your gamepad. Follow these steps to create a profile in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 setup utility: 1) Click on the "Controllers" tab. 2) Click on the "Device" drop down menu and select your gamepad. 3) Click the "New" button under the "Profile" area. 4) Name your new profile. 5) Configure your gamepad buttons for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. 6) Run the game and go to "Options" 7) Select "Controller Config" 8) Select "Primary Controller" and select your gamepad.
