If it helps, send a problem description to games@chiliconvalley.com . 2) Graphical videocards with problems ------------------------------------- * GE-FORCE 256 3D-Prophet Guillemot Symptoms : Crash at the end of the level loading. Treatment: Not yet known. Try first to install the last drivers. Workaround : Play in the "Software Renderer" mode (cf. 3) section, Q4.1). * ATI-Rage Pro 128 Symptoms : Diplayed white squares and stripes. Treatment: Not yet known. Try first to install the last drivers. Workaround : Play in the "Software Renderer" mode (cf. 3) section, Q4.1). 3) Questions/Answers -------------------- Q1.1: Which is the minimal config to run Vyruz ? Minimal configuration : Pentium 200 MHz RAM Memory : 32 Mo Videocard with 2Mb Recommended configuration : Pentium 233 MHz MMX or more RAM Memory : 64 Mo or more Videocard with 4Mb or more Q1.2: Minimal hard disk's required space. The files required to play the game need about 5 Mb to be copied on the hard disk. Each saved session takes up 200 Kb. For each player, only the 7 last backups are kept on the hard disk : 7 x 200 Kb = 1.4 Mb For a total amount of : 5 + 1.4 = 6.4 Mb Add 1.4 Mo more each time a new player name is used (cf. Q4.3). It is roughly the size of the Vyruz data directory (cf. Q2.1). ---------------- Q2.1: What is the "Vyruz data directory" ? That's where are stored (on hard drive) : - the files necessary files to play the game, - the players' backups. To have an idea of the size of this directory, see Q1.2. Its location is automatically defined at the start of the game. It can be : - in C:\Program Files\C2V\Vyruz\ (if "Program Files" is on C:), - in C:\Windows\C2V\Vyruz\ (if "Windows" is on C:). It is possible to define another place (cf. Q2.2). *** For the advanced users, the registry contains the current location of the data directory; see the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/c2v/Vyruz/datapath Q2.2: How to select the "Vyruz data directory" ? The CD-ROM Vyruz directory contains a SETVZDIR.EXE program allowing to select the Vyruz data directory location. Create the directory which will contain the Vyruz data. Copy and run there the SETVZDIR.EXE. That's enough. This location will be used at the next starting game. Q2.3: I would like to move the "Vyruz data directory". Copy (or move) the current data directory to its new location. This directory constains the SETVZDIR.EXE program allowing to define the new Vyruz data directory. Run it. If you don't find it, it also is in the CD-ROM Vyruz directory. Q2.4: How to find out where are stored my saved sessions ? The sessions are saved in the data directory (cf. Q2.1); more precisely in the sub-de\irectory session\\ Only the last seven (7) saved sessions are kept. Q2.5: My CD-ROM drive is too slow, I would like to speed up the levels loading. The solution consists of tranferring the Vyruz resources file (about 52 Mb) from the CD-ROM to your hard disk. So the game will not read the CD-ROM anymore while loading the levels but it will do it from your hard disk, which is faster. To do it right : - check that the game is not running, - open the "Start" menu, - select "Programs", - then "Vyruz", - then "Transfert to hard drive", - and follow instructions. That's all, folks. You have just to start the game. *** For the advanced users, the registry contains the current location of the resource file (if this last one was transfered out of the CD-ROM); have a look at the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/c2v/Vyruz/rsc000 Q2.6: How to uninstall Vyruz ? It's very easy : - check that the game is not running, - open the "Start" menu, - select "Programs", - then "Vyruz", - then "Uninstall", - and follow instructions. The directories removed during the uninstall process are : - the vyruz data directory (cf. Q2.1), - the directory containing the resource file (if it has been transfered to hard drive). ---------------- Q3.1: The displayed texts during the game are not in the same language as the voices heared during the game. It is possible that the displayed texts and the voices in the game are not in the same language. It is because we gave the player the ability to choose its own selection through the Vyruz menu : - for the texts : Options/Language/ - for the voices : Options/Audio/Sound FX, Voices/Voice Type/ So the player can dissociate the voices from the displayed texts (even if Vyruz is not a language learning software ;-) Q3.2: Some displayed texts in the game's menus are not in the same language as the other texts. It is strange. If some texts of the game's menus are not in the same language as the other texts, it is because they are directly coming from Windows. Thus they are in the language in which Windows was installed. ---------------- Q4.1: The games is displaying a lot of white squares. - see section 2) to know if your videocard is concerned and if a remedy is available; - in the Vyruz menu Options/Video/ , modify the third item ("Direct3D Hal") to select "Software Renderer". You have to know this mode doesn't allow to get the benefit of the videocard graphical resources (hardware acceleration, 3D textures, ...) Q4.2: I don't have any sound. - Check the speakers and the sound card : are they working well ? - Check there is none other software using the sound card at the same time you're playing Vyruz. - Use DXDIAG.EXE to check out the Direct Sound functioning. - Check the Sound configuration inside de Vyruz menu : are all the parameters (voices, music, fx) activated with a good volume ? - In desperation, restart Windows. Who knows ? Q4.3: Several different gamers could they have their own Vyruz session ? Yes. To do it right, in the Vyruz menu, click on : Options/User Settings/Name - select "Select player name" to use an already existing name; - select "Add new name" to create a new name; it automatically becomes your player name; - select "Delete name" then a name to erase; this also deletes all the saved sessions done using this name.
