1. Download the 5.1GB file from here
2. Extract it to get a .mdf and .mds
3. Change system locale for non-unicode applications to Japanese.

4. Mount .mds using winCDE as suggested by this site’s wiki.
Without step 3, the installation breaks when it asks you for some ???.txt and is also otherwise incomprehensible with text showing as ??????? (my earlier comment)
5. Installation completed! But game is in Japanese text, so you’ll also need the english translation patch from https://www.myabandonware.com/game/fate-stay-night-cme
6. Install that, and you’ve ended up with two programs recently added / installed!
