  1. Thanks for the shoutout!

Yes – the Harry Potter Games Archive Project has attempted to be as thorough as possible in the digital preservation of these games. We’ve collaborated with the US Library of Congress, Gaming Alexandria, and several other video game preservation initiatives who have provided input to ensure the digital and physical preservation of the Harry Potter games and related ephemeral materials for the permanent record. We also owe a great deal of gratitude to the 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Internet Archive at Archive.org for their dedication to the preservation of cultural memory.

The commenter below links to the archival no-cd crack page on our secondary account, Archives II.

Fun Fact: For those savvy readers out there, yes, this is a nod to the National Archives at College Park, aka ‘Archives II’, a newer research and storage facility of the National Archives, in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, the secondary building for the main building in DC.

For the autodidacts out there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Archives_at_College_Park

In the comment below, the main link is accurate but the ZIP link in that person’s second comment has been updated to a different link and the link in that comment is inactive, an FYI for future readers.

We’ve archived the legacy / scene crack and a newer, improved HP.exe crack for HP1 SS PC game which originates from the OldUnreal Forum threads and the Harry Potter Modding Discord server.

The Harry Potter Games Archive Project exists to prevent software obsolescence and to allow digital preservation of culturally significant works of art and media to be indefinitely accessible, the basis to any flourishing and informed society.

As recently as of this month, April 2021, I left a detailed comment on the MyAbandonWare entry for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone which provides greater context for the improved HP1 SS PC game crack and background information for the Project.

  2. Hello! The Harry Potter Games Archive project provides game files, cracks, and (as of 2021) installation instructions: https://archive.org/details/harry-potter-pc-games-no-cd-cracks

I have personally tested these files and found them to be effective for every game (except for Order of the Phoenix).

If you are having trouble with installation, please read the instructions: https://ia801706.us.archive.org/2/items/harry-potter-pc-games-no-cd-cracks/Harry%20Potter%201%20HP1%20PC%202021%20readme.txt

Yes – the Harry Potter Games Archive Project has tried to be as thorough as possible in the digital preservation of these games. I noticed you linked to one of the ZIPs (in your comment above) and I’ll have to apologize as I’ve done some housekeeping lately and repackaged / re-uploaded a few things for file name continuity. So, unfortunately, that link is broken. However, the archival no-cd crack page link remains the same https://archive.org/details/harry-potter-pc-games-no-cd-cracks

Recently, I left a detailed comment on 2021-04-02 via the MyAbandonware page regarding the legacy vs updated crack for HP1 SS PC game

Regarding Order of the Phoenix: Perhaps you could pop on Discord and provide an explanation? All of these should work, as they are the ones the speed running community has been using for years.

        • Thanks for letting me know. I’d edit my reply with the link for the new crack, but I guess the Disqus edit window has passed.

As for HP5, I’m afraid I don’t have details to offer- I personally use my own retail copy for that game. I was helping a friend troubleshoot a few months ago and I recommended HP Archive Project, but my friend ended up needing to use the pre-installed release from oldgamesdownload instead, for HP5 only. I decided to visit and let future readers know about the Project (since I’m a huge fan of your preservation work), but I felt that I should disclose that they *could* encounter problems with that one, even though I haven’t been able to test/reproduce it.

Anyway, I hope you have a great day, keep it up!

  3. WHAT IT WORKED FOR ME, PROBABLY WORKS FOR YOU
I tried different methods to run the game and finally found a way. I’ve tried things in this order: Started the game in XP sp2 compatibility mode and as an admin, copied the 3 voodoo dlls (D3D8, D3DImm & DDraw) into the system folder of the game, copied windows 10 fix files and replaced the original files. At this point none of them worked.
The last thing I did and worked like charm, was changing the name of the file called HP.exe (the file with caps, the other it’s the icon) and I renamed it with any other name, and the game started to work, just choose “Direct3D support” when a windows appear. Just to be clear, the last step I did before found the correct way was copying the windows 10 fix files, Idk if the game can run without copying the files and just changing the name of that file, but it’s very recommend it to do it. Also, I don’t needed to use the voodoo DLL’s, I haven’t tried yet them with the game so idk if they improve the performance or not. I’ve it running with XP sp2 compatibility mode and as an admin, but as I repeat, it only worked when I changed the name of that file.

  4. I have followed all the steps and downloaded the Win10 fixed verison. But I am still having troubles with the game lagging when Im casting spells and moving through areas. I am currently at the place where Hagrid sends me out to collect fire seeds and the Cut scene laggs a lot. and the game becomes un-playable soon after. All the lagging is taking away from the fun. is there a way to fix this?

  5. Is there anyway to stop the game from lagging horribly? Certain sections work like a charm but then the lag starts and it makes it almost impossible to play.

  6. So I’m using the .7z file and downloaded the Windows 10 fix and the game is running but I am having issues with the game lagging horribly is some sections. Currently I’m at the cutscene where Hagrid sends me off to collect fire seeds and it starts fine and then we enter his hut and the lag starts. Is there anyway to fix this?

  7. An option for anyone who happens to be looking to play this game and nothing is working, is to set up a virtual machine running Windows XP. There are several good articles out there on the interwebs to guide you on how to set that up (even if you know nothing about virtual machines), and it is my preferred way to run this game, since it runs without issues. I personally use VMWare (it’s free!), and you are able to easily virtual mount any .iso files so you can play all those old 00’s era games that have stopped working on Windows 10. imho compatibility mode is a joke, and when it comes to getting old childhood games to run, sometimes you just have to run the actual OS it was made for.
