Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (sometimes known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States) is an action-adventure video game with platform elements published by Electronic Arts. It is based on J.K Rowling’s novel of the same name and the film adaptation. Philosopher’s Stone was initially developed for the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, Microsoft Windows and PlayStation in November 2001, and was re-made two years later for the GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in December 2003.

How to play on Windows – Method 1

  • Download and extract Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosophers_Stone_Win_Files_En.7z
  • Open the “Game Files” folder and double click on “HPlauncher.exe” and the game should launch
  • If you get any errors, right click the launcher, go to “Properties>Compatibility” and select “Windows XP (service pack 2)”. Also select “Run as administrator”. Click on “Apply” and then “Ok”. Then try launching the game.

How to play on Windows – Method 2

  • Download and extract Harry_Potter_and_the_Philosophers_Stone_Win_ISO_En.7z and mount the .iso file
  • Run the game setup by running “Autorun.exe” as an administrator (right click>run as administrator) and insert the following game key:
    1504-1879151-5021411-5309
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the game setup.
  • Once Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has finished installed, you can launch the game using the desktop shortcut.
    • If you get any errors, then download the Windows 10 fix file and drag the contents into your game’s installation directory. By default, this will be C://Program Files x86/EA Games/Harry Potter TM. Confirm you want to replace the files in the destination. Then right click the desktop shortcut for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, go to “Properties>Compatibility” and select “Windows XP (service pack 2)”. Also select “Run as administrator”. Click on “Apply” and then “Ok”

    installation worked, when i tried to play my keys don’t work and i checked configurations and options in the game, mouse button works and spacebar but i can’t walk anywhere or move at all, only jump and cast a spell, chamber of secrets worked perfectly

      Download the windows 10 fix from this page, then proceed to have both the main folder and fix folder open and drag and drop the files, if files need to be overwritten, proceed to do so.

    I had an issue with the HPLauncher.exe file (kept saying it couldn’t find what that .exe was directed to) but simply going into the system folder (and maybe downloading the Win10 Fix) and running HP.exe had it work first try.
    Also if your screen starts spinning after a cutscene, try making sure you don’t have a controller plugged in. For some reason it doesn’t like that. Even if you don’t have stick drift it still spins.

    UPDATE: I have managed to uninstall the program using a variety of programs to. Now I’ve downloaded the files version (no installation), but when the game loads, everything is playing at least twice the speed. Cutscenes are only playing the first few words before jumping to the next step in the scene and character talking is also sped up. When moving Harry around he moves at triple the speed he should… Any help would be hugely appreciated!

    I have just installed this via the ISO file on Win10, however I can’t run it and I also can’t uninstall it – just keep getting error “setup failed to launch installation engine class not registered”. I’ve tried running as Admin – I’ve tried everything… Can anyone offer any advice? How can I uninstall this so I can try a fresh install? TIA! 🙂

    Got it to work via Windows method 2 but it is WAY WAY too laggy to be playable.
    Every time you cast a spell the lag lasts like 15 seconds. Makes the challenges impossible and the game unplayable.

      Please read through this comment thread history. There are links posted to Archive.org with detailed instructions for different installation errors or scenarios.

      The end-user or reader of the future will have to read carefully to effectively understand the step by step instructions for downloading and indefinitely accessing this archival software and getting these ancient computer games to run on modern operating systems and hardware.

      I’d recommend starting over. Clean installation. For a clean installation, please scroll down in this thread for my comments on how to start over. Make sure to go to your Documents / My Documents folder on your computer and delete the ‘Harry Potter’ folder before installing again.

    I got the game up and running, but every time I get past the first cutscene the screen just starts uncontrollably spinning. Any idea what to do to fix it?
