Note: It is not necessary to change any of the default options during installation.
4. After BASS Masters is installed to your hard drive, you will be asked if you wish to
install DirectX 5.0 on your computer. In order to play BASS Masters, you must have
DirectX 5.0 or higher installed, so unless you already have DirectX 5.0 installed on your
computer, click YES.
5. After installation of DirectX 5.0, you will have the option to restart the computer.
Please select YES unless you wish to perform other tasks before playing BASS Masters.

6. Once you have restarted your computer, there should be an open window in the upper
left-hand corner of your screen. This window should have several icons in it.

3. Follow all on-screen instructions to install BASS Masters onto your hard drive.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert the BASS Masters Classic®: Tournament Edition™ CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
BASS Masters should launch automatically. If Autoplay is not enabled on your computer,
double-click your MY COMPUTER icon, right-click your CD-ROM drive icon and select
OPEN, then double-click the SETUP file.
• To uninstall the game, double-click the UNINSTALL BASS MASTERS CLASSIC TE icon.
Note: Uninstalling the game will remove it from your hard drive and you will no
longer be able to play it until you reinstall the game.
• To set up the Mplayer Internet gaming service, double-click FREE INTERNET
PLAY ON MPLAYER.COM. (See “Mplayer Internet Gaming” on page 25 for more
information.)
You can close this window and access these icons from your START menu as well.
Click the START menu, then move the mouse over PROGRAMS -> BASS MASTERS
CLASSIC TE, then select the icon you want and click it.
2. A screen will appear with options to INSTALL, PLAY (grayed out) or EXIT. Click the
INSTALL button and the InstallShield Wizard will launch.

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to BASS Masters Classic®: Tournament Edition™, the only interactive fishing game
that offers all the glamour and excitement of the BASS Masters Classic in a completely 3D
bass fishing simulation.
For those not familiar with the BASS Masters Classic, it is more than just a bass fishing
tournament. The culmination of the prestigious BASSMASTER Tournament Trail, the Classic
is recognized worldwide as the “Test-Of-The-Best,” the
world championship of tournament bass fishing.
Over a period of three days, participants must look
past the autograph seekers, reporters, photographers
and laser-light shows typical of Classic fanfare
and concentrate on catching more fish than their
worthy competitors.
A Classic championship means a resounding
increase in prestige, recognition and financial
reward. Many previous champions estimate
their victories as worth over $1 million. More importantly, being BASS Masters Classic
champion means being the best in the sport!
Now, with BASS Masters Classic: Tournament Edition, you’ve got the chance to compete
with the best that bass fishing has to offer in the quest for the elusive Classic crown.

STARTING A GAME
To begin a game of BASS Masters, make sure you have
your BASS Masters CD-ROM inserted into your CD-ROM
drive. Double-click the MY COMPUTER icon and then
double-click the CD-ROM icon in your My Computer
window. You can also begin by clicking your START menu,
moving your mouse over PROGRAMS -> BASS MASTERS
CLASSIC TE, then clicking once.
Note: Before beginning your BASS Masters game, it is
highly recommended that you close all running applications. This includes screensavers,
e-mail, and disk optimizing software. Any of these applications can take up valuable
resources on your computer, which can affect the performance of BASS Masters.
After launching BASS Masters, you will see the opening video. You can watch the whole
video, or click the Spacebar to go straight to the Game Select screen.
The Game Select screen has four main options: SINGLE, MULTIPLAYER, TUTORIAL and
OPTIONS. There are also EXIT and HELP (?) buttons at the bottom left-hand corner of the
screen. The EXIT option will end your BASS Masters game and return you to the desktop.
The HELP (?) option will allow you to access hints and tips for setting up and playing
BASS Masters. Both these options appear throughout the setup screens.
It’s usually a good idea to make sure your game options are set up properly before
beginning a game, so click the OPTIONS button.

OPTIONS
TUTORIAL
The Options screen allows you to customize many aspects of BASS Masters, in four main
areas: SOUND, GRAPHICS, TOURNAMENT DAY LENGTH and GAME CONTROL.
In order to help you become familiar with tournament bass fishing with BASS Masters,
you can examine the in-game tutorial, narrated by eight-time BASS Masters qualifier
Shaw E. Grigsby, Jr. This tutorial is filled with interesting and useful tips to help you
become better acquainted with the controls and options within the game. It’s probably
a good idea to check out the tutorial before you begin your first game of BASS Masters,
but you can always come back to it later if you think the fish are biting right now!
SOUND
Click the slider bars with the mouse to adjust the sound effects and music volume independently. You can click the checkbox for either category to remove the check mark; doing so
will mute that category.
GRAPHICS
The main slider bar allows you to specify if you prefer a higher frame rate (faster, smoother
game play) or more detailed, realistic graphics. You can also select WAVES, TRANSLUCENT
WATER or TEXTURED SKY to be ON or OFF (ON improves detail, OFF improves frame rate).
If your computer has a Direct3D-compatible 3D video accelerator card, you can use
HARDWARE ACCELERATION.
Note: We strongly advise you to use HARDWARE ACCELERATION if the option is available to you, as the improvement in both frame rate and graphic detail is significant.
TOURNAMENT DAY LENGTH
In order to improve your play experience, a “day” in game time actually takes only a few
minutes to half an hour to play. You can select 8, 15, or 30 minutes depending on your
preference.
SINGLE
CAREERS SCREEN
Click the SINGLE button to begin a single-player game of BASS Masters. The Careers
screen will appear.
• To create your angler, click an empty bar and then click NEW. A box will appear that
allows you to enter your name (up to 20 characters), city and state. Click OK when
you’re done entering the information, or CANCEL if you make a mistake.
Once you’ve created your angler, click the bar with his name and then click CONTINUE.
You can also delete any of your fishermen by clicking on the bar with the appropriate
name and then clicking the DELETE button.
GAME CONTROL
Click your controller preference. You can select either MOUSE or JOYSTICK.
Once you’ve adjusted the Options, click OK and you’ll return to the Game Select screen. Click
CANCEL if you wish to return to the Game Select screen without modifying the Options.

CAREER INFORMATION SCREEN
Once you’ve clicked CONTINUE, you’ll move on to the Career Information screen. Here
you can view all the statistics on your fisherman’s career (if you’ve just created him, there
obviously won’t be much yet). If you have a saved
game with that fisherman, you can also load it on this
screen by clicking the LOAD GAME button. You can
click the BACK button to return to the previous screen,
or OK to advance to the next screen.
AMATEUR
The Amateur mode is a great way to get accustomed to fishing in a B.A.S.S. tournament.
This is a one day tournament that gives you an excellent way to explore one of the three
lakes you can select in this mode. Prior to entering Amateur mode, read the Rules screen
to familiarize yourself with the tournament objectives.
LAKE SELECT
If you select the Amateur option, you will go to the Lake Selection screen. Select LAKE
MEAD, LAKE MINNETONKA, or LAKE FORK by clicking them with the mouse.
LAKE CONDITIONS
GAME PLAY
Once you’ve viewed your career information, it’s time to choose the type of fishing you
wish to engage in. The Game Play screen allows you to select a wide range of fishing
options, from a simple practice session for novice players all the way to the prestigious
BASS Masters Classic.
You can also set the difficulty level on this screen by clicking on the EASY, NORMAL, or
EXPERT buttons. The difficulty levels differ primarily in the level of simulation. It will be
easiest to catch fish in EASY mode, and most difficult in EXPERT mode. Additionally, you
will notice that EASY mode lets you see the shadows of fish from your boat. Once you’ve
selected your difficulty level, click the button (AMATEUR, PROFESSIONAL, ARCADE or
PRACTICE) that represents the type of fishing you want.

On this screen, you can examine different aspects of the lake that can affect your fishing,
including time of day, water conditions, water temperature, air temperature and wind.
Once you’ve reviewed the lake conditions, click the OK button to go on to the next screen.
Note: You can refer to the lake conditions during game play by pressing the W key.
EQUIPMENT SETUP
In BASS Masters, you carry seven fishing rods on your boat.
Each rod is preset with a different combination of action,
lure size, and lure type and rig. This screen lets you select
each rod and customize it to your personal specifications.
Rod Configuration
To select a rod, click it. You will see a description of how that
rod is set up. To change the configuration of the rod, double-click that rod. You will see
the various options you can modify. Make any changes you wish, and click OK, or click
CANCEL if you wish to discard the changes you made. You can do this for each of your
seven rods. When you are done modifying your rods, click OK.

Gear Save/Load
You can use the Gear Save/Load button to either save your current gear configuration,
or load a configuration you previously saved. Click the GEAR SAVE/LOAD button and
a screen will pop up with your saved gear lists (if any).
• You can save your current gear configuration by clicking an empty slot and then
clicking the SAVE button. A box will appear allowing you to name the save file.
Type the name you wish to use, then click OK.
• To load a gear configuration you previously saved, click the slot with the gear configuration you wish to load and then click the LOAD button. A message will appear
indicating that gear has been loaded. Click the OK button to return to the Equipment
Setup screen. When you are done saving and/or loading gear, click the OK button to
go to the next screen.
LAKE SCREEN
Once you’ve set your options and gotten your gear set
up, it’s time to select a fishing spot. Move the cursor to
the area where you want to fish, and click the mouse
button. You’ll see a prompt indicating how long it will
take for the boat to reach the spot.
Note: This is “game time”, not real time – it only
affects how much time you have to fish during
the tournament.
Click the YES button if you wish to move to that spot,
or NO if you want to select a different spot.

If the cursor changes to a red slash and circle, the spot you have selected is close to land
and your boat cannot go there. Move the cursor until the crosshair symbol returns in
order to select a valid fishing spot. If you wish to weigh in and end your fishing for
the day, you can return to the dock at any time. To do so, click the DOCK button. Doing
this before you start to fish is generally not recommended.
Also notice the Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates that appear at the bottom of
the screen. You can use the GPS to monitor your position once you are out on the lake.
Knowing your precise location can often be helpful when looking for good fishing spots.
You’re now ready to fish! Once you’re out on the lake, you can check out “Playing a Game”
on page 15 for information on how to cast, reel in and land your fish.
PROFESSIONAL
In Professional mode, you can fish the pro tour all the
way to the BASS Masters Classic itself. In this mode,
which has much more simulation than the other modes,
you must qualify in the top 10 in each tournament to
make it to the Classic.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Once you’ve clicked on the Professional button, the
Tournament Information screen appears. This screen contains everything you need to
know about the BASS Masters tournament you are entering. Once you’ve familiarized
yourself with the information, click the START button. The Lake Conditions, Equipment
Setup, and Lake screens will appear. (For information on these screens, please see their
descriptions in the “Amateur” section beginning on page 11.) After clicking OK, you will
see information explaining your objectives for winning the tournament.

PLAYING A GAME
ARCADE
Arcade mode is much more action-oriented than Professional mode. In this mode you get
to fish each lake with increasing difficulty. It relies more on action and less on the simulation aspects of BASS Masters fishing.
Once you are out on the lake, you’ll see your angler standing in the boat. You’ll also notice
a control panel at the bottom of your screen.
RULES
After you select the ARCADE option, the Rules screen appears. When you are done reading
the rules, click OK to continue. The Lake Conditions, Equipment Setup, and Lake screens
will appear. (For information on these screens, please see their descriptions in the
“Amateur” section beginning on page 11.)

PRACTICE
Practice mode gives you the opportunity to fine tune your fishing skills. Use this mode
to customize the lake conditions to your liking. By practicing in different lake conditions,
you will be prepared for anything you might encounter on the Tournament Trail.
LAKE CONDITIONS
After you select the Practice option, the Lake Conditions screen will appear. On this screen
you can modify all of the different aspects of the lake that can affect your fishing,
including time of day, water conditions, water temperature, air temperature and wind.
Once you’ve set up the lake conditions to your satisfaction, click the OK button to go on
to the next screen. The Equipment Setup and Lake screens will appear. (For information on
these screens, please see their descriptions in the “Amateur” section beginning on page 11.)

CONTROL PANEL
Here’s a list of what all the options on the control panel do, from left to right:
Quit
Exits the game in progress and returns you to the Game Select screen.
GPS
Your Global Positioning System can tell you the precise location
of your boat.
Sonar
This invaluable tool can show you the location and depth of fish
in the area. Fish are displayed in red.
Trolling Motor
The lever next to the sonar screen is your throttle. You can control the
throttle with the ↑ and ↓ arrow keys. Moving the throttle up will move
the boat forward, moving it down will slow the boat and then move it
in reverse.
Target
Brings up casting target (you can also click the right mouse button).

Cast
Casts the line after you click the left mouse button to lock your casting
target in place (you can also double-click the left mouse button).
Drag
Indicates the amount of drag you have on your reel. You can adjust this
with the Plus (+) and Minus (-) keys.
Cast Type
Allows you to toggle between Overhand, Flip and Pitch casts.
Gear
Allows you to change your gear configuration.
Note: The game clock will not pause while you adjust your gear.
Lure
Displays the lure on the rod you are currently using.
Live Well
You can keep your catches in the Live Well for later weighing. The Live
Well has a limited storage capacity, so be careful which fish you save
in it. Click on the Live Well to see how many fish you’ve caught and
what size they are.
Lake Map
Returns you to the Lake Map in order to select a new location or return
to the dock to end your day of fishing.

Save
Allows you to save your game. Click on the button to bring up a box
where you can type the name of your save, then click OK.
THE PROS
ROLAND MARTIN
SHAW E. GRIGSBY, JR.
Having won more tournaments (19) than
any of his peers in the sport, nine Angler
of the Year awards, and 21 appearances in
the BASS Masters Classic, Roland Martin’s
name has become almost synonymous
with BASSMASTER tournament success.
Add to that his highly rated television
show “Fishing with Roland Martin” on
TNN and you’ve got a true bass fishing
legend. Roland lives in Clewiston, Florida
with his wife and two children. When he’s
not fishing he enjoys turkey hunting and
fishing-tackle design.
Another of our professionals with his own
successful TV show, Shaw boasts career
earnings of over $800,000, helped along by
five first-place tournament finishes. He has
also qualified for the Classic eight times.
In 1995 he earned money in six of eight
events including a 13th place finish in the
BASSMASTERS MegaBucks Tournament.
Shaw lives with his family in Gainesville,
Florida and also enjoys fly-fishing.

ANGLER’S HINTS
• Beginning anglers may want to keep the default rod setup. It is a good one for
first-timers.
• If you’re preparing for a tournament on the practice lake, don’t try to catch all your fish
in one spot. Practice moving to different parts of the lake to find new “hot spots.”
• When you are just starting out in a tournament, set the time in the Options menu to
the longest setting.

PAUL ELIAS
1991 BASS Masters Classic champion Ken
Cook became a pro in 1983 after winning
the first Super Bass tournament ever. Today,
his career winnings total over $500,000 with
six tournament wins. Ken and family live in
Meers, Oklahoma. When he is not on the
Tournament Trail, Ken enjoys bowhunting
and scuba diving.
Winner of the 1982 Classic on the Alabama
River at Montgomery, Paul has won four
tournaments in his career with winnings
totaling $384, 981. In 1992, Paul made a
strong showing with a 5th place finish in
the Classic. He resides in Laurel, Mississippi
and enjoys hunting.
• Once you’ve made your cast, roll the mouse down/up to raise or lower the rod tip. When
you get a strike, quickly pull the mouse down to set the hook.
• When your lure is in the water, make sure you keep track of your “reel” icon. Try to keep
it in the top half of your screen in order to make it easier to set the hook when you’ve
got a strike.
• If you hook a fish while in the underwater view, switch back to the surface view. Now
you will be able to see the position and tension of your fishing rod.
• If the fish aren’t taking your lure, don’t forget to get some tips from the pros. They’re
there to help, and they’ve been there before.
• If you’re having trouble locating fish, try switching to the Easy mode. Now you’ll be able
to see the shadows of the fish from your boat. Sight fishing for a while will get you
used to boating fish and predicting their patterns in various conditions.

THE LAKES
LAKE FORK
Lake Fork is located approximately 70 miles east
of Dallas in the great state of Texas. Regarded as one
of the best bass lakes in all of the United States, its
many timber- and grass-filled creeks, coves and points
have bestowed upon anglers numerous bass over 10
pounds. The lake record is 18.18 pounds. Smaller bass in
the two- and four-pound variety are also plentiful at
Lake Fork.
LAKE MINNETONKA
“It’s the best bass fishery I’ve ever seen-bar none,”
remarked Guido Hibdon, veteran pro angler.
Located approximately 12 miles west of downtown
Minneapolis, Lake Minnetonka is another highly
regarded bass fishery. Rather new to the Tournament
Trail, the Minnesota BASS Master Top 100 took place
on Lake Minnetonka in August, 1995. The pros were
amazed at the spectacular amount of bass that they
were boating. Jim Bitter won the tournament with a
combined weight of 79 pounds, 3 ounces.

LAKE MEAD
Located 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada,
Lake Mead is approximately 110 miles long and runs
from the Hoover Dam all the way to the mouth
of the Colorado River.
Mead’s size provides BASS anglers with plenty of
different coves, islands, underwater reefs, points, and
large basins in which to seek out those lunkers. Larry
Nixon, the second-place finisher in the 1989 Nevada
Invitational, remarked, “Mead is also the type of lake
in which you usually end up fishing more than one pattern and covering
miles of water. It’s so easy to get away from other competitors.”
LAKE LOGAN MARTIN
The site of the 1997 BASS Masters Classic, Lake
Logan Martin lies approximately 30 miles east of
Birmingham, Alabama. Also the site of the BASS
Masters Classic in 1992 and ‘93, Lake Logan Martin has
been receiving so much attention over recent years,
not too many secret fishing spots remain. The best
hot spots that produce some big fish are docks, the
main channel, brush, and bumps in the mid-lake area.
Steve Sherbert, a Lake Logan Martin guide, suggests:
“Because the docks and piers are such obvious places
to fish, a more productive pattern might be to pinpoint underwater brush piles
at the mouths of creeks, on main river points and just out from the bank.”

Once you’ve created your angler, click the bar with his name and then click CONTINUE.
You can also delete any of your fishermen by clicking the bar with a fisherman’s name
and then clicking the DELETE button.
CAREER INFORMATION SCREEN
Once you’ve clicked CONTINUE, you’ll move on to the Career Information screen. Here you
can view all the statistics on your fisherman’s career (if you’ve just created him, there
obviously won’t be much yet). You can click the BACK button to return to the previous
screen, or OK to advance to the next screen.
SELECT PROVIDER
After the Career Information Screen, you should now see a window with three options:
• IPX Connection for Direct Play
This option allows you to play Bass Masters over a Local Area Network (LAN) that has
been set up with the IPX protocol.

Select the option you wish to use, then select either HOST or JOIN:
• Host
This lets you set up a multiplayer game based on your computer. It is usually a
good idea to host a game only if you have the fastest computer of all the players
participating. Once you select Host, you will be asked to name your game. Do so
and click OK. Your player will appear, along with empty slots for the other players.
When a player joins your game, you will see his name appear in the window. After
all of the players have joined your game, click the OK button.
• Join
This allows you to join a multiplayer game based on another computer. After
clicking the JOIN button, you will see a window with the Bass Masters multiplayer
games that are available with your chosen connection. Select the game you wish to
join and click OK.
Once you have either begun a Host game or Joined an existing game, and all the
players are connected, the Game Play screen will appear.
GAME PLAY
Once you’ve set up all of your multiplayer options, it’s time to choose the type of
fishing you wish to engage in. The Game Play screen allows you to select a wide range
of fishing options, from a simple practice session for novice players all the way to the
prestigious BASS Masters Tournament!
• Internet TCP/IP Connection for Direct Play
This allows multiple players to connect over the Internet.
Once everyone has finished gearing up, it’s time to fish! All controls are identical to the
single--player game with the addition of the T key, which lets you send typed messages
to the other players. Press T, then type your message and press Enter to send it.
• Modem Connection for Direct Play
Two players using modems can connect directly for play.
You’ll also see messages periodically that indicate when the other players have caught
a fish, which will help you figure out where you stand in the rankings.
