TV Star is a satirical role playing game that describes the media-world
of today. Your goal is to become famous, obtain power, reach the sky
and remain in that privileged position.
The game starts with you getting a job as a cleaner in a editorial office
in a TV-station. Challenge your superiors with general all-round questions
and you will quickly be promoted. If you are good at see through dubious
news and statements, you have an even higher chance to succeed.
You are a highly dedicated professional in TV Star. During the day you
work at the editorial office collecting news, so challenge your co-workers
in question duels, unravel news and confidential information. Meet your
colleagues after work and mingle, pick up and discuss irrelevant issues.

You can choose to be a woman or a man, a wannabe or a celebrity. All
characters have a number of personal qualities that influence your possibilities in the game.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
SMART
If you choose a pre-dominant SMART character, you can score more
points in question duels and on your collected news.
HANDSOME
With a pre-dominant HANDSOME character you can score more points
at parties. Another advantage is that you are not as influenced by
rumours.
RICH
The richer your character is, the more you earn. You get paid on a daily
basis. Use your money to acquire a higher degree of education or to buy
secrets, things and party kits. It will either improve your personal qualities, increase your score or both.

Once you choose your character, the hard work to strengthen
your position at the office begins. You move around by clicking
with the mouse on the place you wish to go.

Climb the ladder of success by qualifying for that profession. The qualification is measured by points. You can obtain points in different ways:
• FIND VALUABLE NEWS • EDUCATE YOURSELF • FIND THINGS THAT GIVE
POINTS • CHALLENGE A CO-WORKER IN A QUESTION DUEL
LOOK FOR NEWS
News will appear at any time by fax, post-boxes or computers. Read the
news and judge the level of truth. Correct it by clicking on errors in the
text. Before the day ends, find the news editor and give him your news.
You earn or loose points depending on the quality of the news in combination with your intelligence factor.
Sometimes you can find things in the editorial office which grant points.
But there are also things that increase your HANDSOME, SMART, or RICH
factor. You can keep these or sell them to make money.

co-workers in question duels.

To challenge somebody above you, you must have enough points for that
level. Your point-status appears in the stairway picture in the lower panel.
Warning! You can always challenge someone above you in the hierarchy
but at a much higher risk! Is it really worth it?
CHANGE OF CAREER
When you collect enough points to qualify for the next level, you can challenge the person who possesses the position in a question duel.
If you win, you swap careers and if you loose you’ll take a plunge.
If you are challenged or if you challenge someone who is below you in the
hierarchy you jeopardise your career.
You will be degraded if you are no longer qualified for your career role and
if someone else is.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THOSE WHO ARE BELOW YOU IN THE RANK MAY
BE QUALIFIED FOR YOUR CAREER ROLE AND MAY BE AFTER YOUR POSITION!
Each editorial office has an education-instructor who will
help you increase your points for a fee.

STATEMENT DUELS
A statement duel at the party is all about answering your opponent’s sta-

tements. The amount of points you score or loose depends on how handsome you are in combination with the partykit you choose. You can’t challenge the same person more than once during a party!
PARTYKIT
A partykit is a drink with snacks that will raise your stake in a statement
duel. The more expensive the kit, the more points you can win or loose.
There are three different alternatives:
• Water and pretzels – costs nothing and gives you nothing in return
• Beer and sausage costs 10 money units – increases the stake a little
• Wine and grapes costs 20 money units – increases the stake a lot
Whenever you buy a partykit, you will also get a few extra points as a
bonus.
OF COURSE YOU CAN FIND THINGS, GET TOGETHER WITH
SOMEONE OR SPREAD RUMOURS AT THE PARTY!

At any time you may ask for a date with someone that you fancy.
If the feelings are mutual and you become a couple you will strengthen each other’s
qualities (HANDSOME, SMART and RICH) which creates bigger career possibilities.
SECRETS
When you share someone’s life you will also be sharing each other’s secrets. These
secrets may be used when love is tested. You may sell them and make money or
simply put her/him down by telling the whole world about it.
Keep in mind that this may also affect you but if you are very HANDSOME you will
not loose as many points.

PANIC ATTACK
If you feel threatened by a co-worker who hunts your position you may pull a panic
attack on him or her. Anyway, a panic attack is quite expensive and should only be
used when in panic.

To get help with how the different functions work in the game - start
TV Star Help from the Start-menu in Windows. There you will find a
description on how to play Wannabe and how the different functions
should be used.
GAME CONTENTS
There are a total of 17 different editorials, e.g. Movie, Nature, Soap, Music,
Talk shows, Literature, Cartoons and Sci-fi. You are allowed to change editorials once you have reached the editor-in-chief position and the maximum
points for that editorial. There are four different career roles, approx. 2.200
questions, approx. 550 news and 1.000 statements.
