How to change language?

I’m unable to run the game on a Windows XP VM. I set my own up a few weeks ago and am able to run other games, but not this. I then tried creating another XP VM with the XP iso that oldgamesdownload.com provides, no luck there either. The version of XP on oldgamesdownload.com includes SP3. My original VM is SP2.

The game installs fine and the splash screen loads correctly, but when you click “Play!” the screen goes dark for a few seconds then I get the following error. I tried running it with compatibility mode set to every available mode and still no luck. I also tried changing the display settings but no luck.
