BARRAGE READ ME
THE LATEST LOWDOWN ON ADDED FEATURES AND POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
September 18, 1998

3Dfx Voodoo Banshee Support
The retail version of Barrage does not support Glide at this time with 3Dfx Voodoo
Banshee based cards. You may run Barrage with your Voodoo Banshee board by selecting
the Direct3D Drivers for your card instead of Glide when you are installing the game.

Mouse Sensitivity Adjustment/Invert Y Axis Support:
The following options may be added to the command line for installing Barrage:

Mouse Sensitivity for the X axis
-msx then a number between -10.0 and 10.0.
(-10.0 being least sensitive, 10.0 being most sensitive)

Mouse Sensitivity for the Y axis
-msy then a number between -10.0 and 10.0.
(-10.0 being least sensitive, 10.0 being most sensitive)

To Invert the Y axis of the Mouse
-minvert

Here is how to implement these options:
Install the game. Click on Window START button, PROGRAM, BARRAGE and without clicking
on anything move the selection to the Barrage icon. Right-click on it and select
properties. Add the command line option there after the quote.
For example: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Barrage\Src\Barrage.exe" -msx 5.0 -minvert

Hint Voice On/Off Switch
Dealin' Al's hints are helpful but if you really want him to shut up, just switch him
off in the Options Menu. The switch is in the Sound Effects section under "Hints".

T1 Dial-Up
If you are a T1 user trying to host a game to someone outside of the Firewall it will
not work.

Modem to Modem
"Error Message" "Can not dial call". If you change host you will need to restart both
computers and turn off both Modems and start the dial up process again. You can not
switch host without restarting you computers and modems.

Memory Swapping
If you play Barrage with other applications running in the background or skip around
back and forth between levels frequently you may experience an occasional side effect
of the Windows 95/98 operating system's virtual memory swapping functionality. The
particular symptoms would be a few seconds of slowness in the FPS and simultaneous
frantic hard drive activity.

This is caused by Windows swapping data from the hard drive to physical memory (RAM)
and vice versa.

It can be avoided by closing all other applications while playing Barrage, upgrading
to more memory (this will not happen with 64 megs of RAM) or, if it becomes frequent,
exiting the game and loading it again. This is just a side effect of a virtual memory
operating system.

If you are playing Multiplayer for long periods of time and have a 32 MB RAM system
and are switching back and forth between environments, we recommend that you shut down
BARRAGE before joining or hosting a third environment of multiplayer.

Option Screen
During game play if you decide to go to the Option Screen and make any changes to it
you will need to restart the level for this function to effect your game play.

Installer Size
The game got a bit bigger. Barrage requires 125 Megs of free hard drive space to install.

Joystick
If your joystick has problems in Barrage, you may want to check to see if you have
updated to the latest drivers.

AOL
You must have version 4.0 in order for Direct Play to work.

S3 & Voodoo Graphics
If you have an S3 968/868 based video card and are experiencing lockups, graphic problems,
or erratic behavior, please download the "S3FIXV2.EXE" program from
http://www.3dfx.com/docs/s3_fix_kit/s3_fix_kit.html. Please follow the instructions
included in the download to insure proper installation of the patch.
