Dark Horizons-Lore:Invasion basic instructions by [PBG]Slingshot, 7/20/2019.
OVERVIEW
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
This is a restored release of Maxgaming Technologies mech simulation, Dark Horizons-Lore:Invasion version 2.02. It has been altered by the player community to make multi-player functional again. Other changes include enhancements
for better Bot performance and certain special effects, as well as the addition of several missions.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
The game is from 2005, so it runs fine on most PC's using any version of Microsoft Windows, up to and including Windows 10. The game will also run in Linux using Wine 4.0 or better. It has been tested in Ubuntu 18.04,
Linux Mint 17 and 18, and Manjaro 18.
INSTALLATION
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
There is no installer and no registration is required. Place the MGTGames folder in any directory you like. To play, simply navigate to the MGTGames/DHLI folder and double click on the lore.exe icon. In Linux open the
lore.exe with the Wine Windows Program Loader.
SETUP
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
Lore will play out of the box using default settings. If you wish to view or change settings, or remap your keys, you can do so by pushing the Setting and Options button when you start the game. You may also access settings and
options while in game by pressing ctrl+o.
SINGLE PLAYER
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
When playing a single player game, you need to specify the game type, mission, time and kill limits, duration, and number of bots. Then join a team and launch.
MULTIPLAYER
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
Maxgaming no longer supports the game, so there were no servers for multiplayer. Because of this the game has been re-scripted to log into irc.rizon.net. To login, pick a screen name and a password and enter it into the appropriate
fields. You will then be able to log in to multiplayer. Registration is not required, but if you want your name to be reserved on irc.rizon.net, you must register it using the irc chat command line. The command is as follows.
/msg NickServ REGISTER yourPassword [email protected]. For complete information on Rizon IRC and irc commands goto https://wiki.rizon.net/index.php?title=Main_Page .
HOSTING A GAME
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
There are no longer any servers for Lore, so it is important to know how to host a game so that others may join. Before you can host a game you must open up ports 28000 to 28002 UDP on your Internet Gateway and select the computer
that you are using to host. If this is not done, nobody will be able to see your game on the server list, so they will not be able to join. This step can be quite daunting if you are not familiar with the proceedure. Fortunately
the internet is full of information on how to accomplish this. Here is a link to a video covering the subject for my particuliar Gateway router. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TRnX2RdPOQ . Chances are, you will be able to find a
similiar video for your ISP. With that said, After you log in to multiplayer, select the Server List tab at the top of the screen. Then select the Host Server button. Choose a name for your server. Only enter a password if you want
the server to be private. Only players who know the password will be able to join. On the next screen are tabs to select the game type, mission, time and kill limits, number of bots, etc. After you set that up, choose a team to be
on, and you will be able to launch the game.
JOINING A GAME
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
To join a game, log in to multiplayer, click in the Servers List tab, click on the server you wish to join, then click on the Join Server button.
DEDICATED SERVER
========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================
If you wish to run a game server, you can do so with the dedicated.exe located in the MGTGames/DHLI folder. The server created by the dedicated.exe runs a script in the MGTGames/DHLI/fps/server folder called dedicated.cs. This file
can be edited with a text editor such as notepad if you wish to give the server a custom name, change the missions list, number of bots, etc.
